Fantastic video. Hope you don't mind but I'm gonna share the hell out of this.
Thanks for putting the time into this. So much history here.
nice Austin your masterpiece is complete i enjoyed every second and will show my brother he live where there isn't much internet. thank you so much for doing this.
Great work! What's the 1 guitar you'd love to own from the collection???
You spent so my time on that so I had to watch it all, great job.
Dave Gilmour, for the entire 1970's and 1980's : "... I think I'll buy another Strat this week."
I wish i had that kind of money
@@mrwootenplays7227 To quote Pete Townshend: "the bank owns it." Line of credit.
Well most if his strats were sent by the custom shop without him even asking
Dave's tech, "bugger I'm skint again, best sell Dave another guitar 🤔"
December 79 "I think I'll buy that wall of guitars now where's all our roadies? "
I don’t normally comment on youtube, but thanks for this. It’s above and beyond the call of duty
Agreed, it's a good video the lad is to be thanked.
Aside from the guitars just consider what David Gilmour has done. He has spent his entire life entertaining us all with his mastery of the guitar and now he has sold the tools of his trade to make a better world for his children and their children. A truly noble gesture in a world which is becoming more selfish by the day.
he's a socialist
It's a shame as he seems a very kind person but unfortunately is indeed a Marxist and atheist. Which means he believes in the Jewish Bolshevic derived politic which is responsible for tens of millions of Russian and Ukrainian Christian deaths not to mention the millions of others who have died under Marxism in China, Southeast Asia and South America. How he, or anyone else, gets past that is incomprehensible to me.
It was indeed a noble gesture, I just wish I could of helped his gesture by purchasing a couple of these, I’d of had to sell my house so I’ll drool from afar.
You are the, man, Trogly. Who else would go to the trouble of making this, purely out of their love of guitars and information? No one! Keep it up!
Dave's got one of the best tones of any guitar player ever. There are very few players whose riffs make the hairs on the back of your neck prickle like some of his can & his riff on Comfortably Numb is still for me the best of all time. When I first wanted to learn how to play, that was the one, along with some of his other's, plus Jimmy Page & maybe Slash's that I most wanted to master. The guy truly merits his legendary status imho. Thanks for putting this together Austin man
if you want to hear an absolutely stunning cover of comfortably numb check out Jamie Dupuis who plays it on a harp guitar: czcams.com/video/YRSlwhlTPUE/video.html
as well as many, many other covers that are completely transformed by his brilliant and talented transcription ...set aside a few hours to pick through these...you'll need them
damn, lots of rich people who probably don't play at all paying crazy prices to get something Gilmore owned. Just crazy when you think that some of those is the average person's yearly salary X 20.
Going to his homeless charity...then great 👍
A lot of these guitars are so old they're becoming museum pieces so it's hard to say what deserves to keep getting played and what deserves to be kept for historic reasons but I dont like the fact that a bunch of football team owners pretty much bought some guitars because they were bored on a Saturday
U grow up whiner.
I think they're all doing it. I've heard that Keith Richards has a warehouse full most of which he's never played.
It's too bad those aren't going to musicians. Imagine someone like Gilmore going around and donating his old guitars to students guitarists.
You, sir. Are a gentleman and a scholar.
Can I just say thanks for the work you've put in to this? It's by far the most comprehensive guide to the collection and I enjoyed watching it.
My hat goes off to you for this incredible video, your effort is really inspiring! Not surprising how good your channel is when you put in that many hours. Keep up the incredible work!
Your videos are the very few that I’d watch that are over an hour. Much love.
You know it’s a real shame this amazing collection couldn’t be kept together as a set in a museum because it’s not only the story of David Gilmore’s life, it’s the story of the guitar itself. But I hope these guitars will find new lives and new owners who will love them- and who will play them.
The real shame is that most of these probably won't be played much. A museum would be a shame too. His music tells the story just fine! :)
I will wake up screaming 'for studio use' tonight 😂
All jokes aside, very nice job! Thanks!
Thanks man, this obviously took a lot of work.
Some of these deals are just totally bizarre .. I think it’s safe to say there were a whole lot of generous people there that day.
I watched this entire video the other day at home. Just wanted to thank you for taking the time to put this together and post it.
Wow Austin! This must've been a lot of work to research, compile, and produce this video. Kudos! 👍
This is an incredibly heroic post! Your passion for guitars is unparalleled, my man....
If your eyes are not crossed by the end of this you are not looking. But good job on Trogly for putting this together. It's a remarkable labor of love.
Blows one's mind man
...
Thank you for this, I can tell that this was a real labor of love for you to make.
From 1990-94 I played in The Pretty Things with Phil May and Dick Taylor. Phil was loaned the white Steinberger so we could have it as a backup on tour. It sounded great BUT I found it hard not to play a B Barr chord when I thought I was on an A. No headstock was disorientating! It’s worth pointing out that it was used live with Kate Bush for a performance of Running Up That Hill for A Secret Policeman’s Ball show. I was told it was also used for Sorrow on MLOR album.
“Mott and the Hoople?” I swear you threw that in to see how far people got in the video…
Jokes aside, thanks for this thorough, extremely informative video. A genuine contribution to making musical history accessible to people who don’t have dozens of hours to cruise a clunky website. Thank you for researching and recording this.
Did any else one notice the "I" added to the title Wish You Were Here ? I'm thinking he might be a lukewarm Floyd freak.
JK by the way I love this vid and your channel
^^^
I thought (as an Englishman) that "Jag-Wiiiiiirrrrrrrrre" was the best bit in the video
Trogly says it like "Jag-pause-Uh-Wiiiiiirrrrre" with the smphasis on the prolonged syllable "Wiiiiiiiirrrrre"
Whereas, in England, we say it (correctly) as "Jag-You-Are" but really fast, so it's like "Jag-U-Ar"
Never understood as to 'Why' the Americans can NEVER pronounce Jaguar properly (but it makes me laugh !
My dad met david once at a walmart in woodstock GA when he asked what he was doing here his bodyguard said charity golf and thanked him for not flipping out he then pushed his 2 buggys full of alcoholic beverages to the checkout this story never gets old
The coolest guy my dad met at wallmart is my drunk uncle

Thank you so much for taking the time to create this video! Truly appreciate the effort!!
Great video! Thanks for this and all you do to get out great info to all of us!
Dave must have finally received royalty checks in '78, the guitar buying year!!
Hell of a collection, wow.
Well done. The descriptions are well delivered and efficiently covered the historical significance of the guitars. So many amazing guitars, it’s a bit overwhelming. The prices fetched for some were astronomical.
Back in the mid 2000’s Phil Taylor authored a book chronicling the the mods done to Gilmour’s iconic black Strat. It was appropriately titled, The Black Strat. I believe it was released about the time Fender released its Gilmour signature model.
I don’t know if it represents an exhaustive history but, it’s a very detailed one at the least. Besides a literary telling, it’s also full of photos showing the guitar through the ages as well as images of receipts and invoices.
According to Taylor, Gilmour thought the book was “a daft idea” but, gave him his blessing to proceed with the project. I’m glad he did. I found it fascinating. Highly recommended for Gilmour fans. I believe however, it’s now out of print and finding an affordable copy might take some patience. The prices I found on Amazon are outrageously high
Trogly, thank you for all the work you put into this. This will likely be the definitive guide, to Gilmour's guitars, for years to come.
Well done, this is "The" definitive guide to the collection. Respect to the effort you put into this.
Wow, one hour video, amazing job, thanks !!
Great video! Thanks for putting in all this work.
I had to LOL when you said "Mott And The Hoople" though...
Darwin Stearns I thought that’s what he said .
Nice job! It's great to hear each guitar's history. Thanks for doing this! :)
Thank you for taking the time to put all this information together and post in 1 very detailed video.
You are THE BEST. I've really been learning so much from your videos - which have helped me make some recent buying decisions. When will Gibson learn that guitars ARE NOT automobiles? Don't make so many variations in models from year to year with no real regard to the badges. We don't want the latest and greatest technology as a substitute for what they got right long ago. It's really a challenge to even know what you are buying anymore. A Les Paul Standard should be a Les Paul Standard. You've really helped make some sense out of all the changes over time. Thanks for all that you do!
You make a really good point. Gibson should maybe stick to recreating their classic instruments.
I agree, it's difficult to know what you're looking at when it's a modern Gibson, too many different models, options and flavors.
Keep it simple Gibson, long neck tenon, True ABR-1 Bridge and good woods, then get the quality control up to snuff.
Watched the whole thing. You did a great job!
Outstanding work, man. Very interesting. Thank you!
8:06 That Gretsch Synchromatic is gorgeous, those "horn" shaped sound holes look awesome. such an aggressive yet still stylish look for 1940.
Excellent. This video will go viral. I bet the views will eventually outmatch the price of the Black Strat.
I own a Gretsch Jet guitar. And it is a fun player. It has strat sparkle with les paul humbucker style gear. Or something like that. I love it
Great way to put it. Just out of curiosity, does your jet have Filter'tron humbuckers or single coils?
Wow! I've never heard of Ovation guitars until today and I was amazed to learn that their factory is only 15 minutes from my house! Crazy to think they have made products for a legend like David Gilmour. Learn something new everyday I guess.
This is a GREAT video! And thank you for taking the time putting the realized auction prices with pictures of the guitars on your website. Bravo :)
Man this is amazing! I also wanted to save the images but it was a lot of clicking and saving. Can you create a google drive folder with the high resolution images ? Many many people i think would be very thankful!
Great job man. This is why you’re the best guitar CZcamsr.

This is truly an incredible piece of research and history...what a BOATLOAD of WORK. I hope everyone appreciates what you've done as this deserves special recognition my Friend...love you his channel and how you carry it homez...great work
Love this channel that should have read.. 😂
Nice work, congrats, best video concerning this subject on the internet.
He had a boatload of Strats, that’s for sure. I watched the whole video. Good job. Now I’m going to go to my iTunes to listen to “Goodbye Blue Sky” to listen to the nylon strings, and to “Run Like Hell” to hear the Bass lines.
Only just found this. Wow... That was outstanding. Thank you so much for putting all that effort into it and sharing it with everybody. It was awesome.
Wow, massive thank you for doing that, amazing work!
Thanks for your efforts. Nicely done i enjoyed it.
Well done, Sir. I'm a 66 year resident of Kalamazoo, MI. where most of his Gibson's were made. Grew up about 3 miles from the factory. My brother-in-law turned me on to Pink Floyd way back in 1969.
Man this is fantastic!! Thank you so much for making and sharing. DG is so interesting and creative.

David bought a new guitar every time he needed new strings...

If I could I would haha
Great job of documenting the most famous collection of guitars at the current time. David Gilmoure will be remembered for centuries to come right up there with Bach, Beetoven and the like!!
Trogly’s guitars. One of your finest videos to date. Awesome job. David Gilmore is one of my favorite guitar players of all time. Who inspired me to pick up a guitar in the first place. Early one was chuck Berry. I’ve always had a passion for the Fender guitar Stratocaster. Love Gibson Less Paul’s, and there acoustics. Always loved the Pink Floyd Band. Except for Roger Water’s. Was a total drag. Thanks for your video’s Trogly. Never miss one of your videos. Peace out.
David is def a man of the culture who appreciated guitarorgan
Thanks for the effort, must have been grueling to make!!
This is awesome! Your dedication to the documentation of guitars is appreciated by guitar dorks everywhere.
Thanks for taking the time. Awseome !!
Is this David announcing his retirement ? If so I’m gutted. I 1st saw David and Pink Floyd in London 1973 Dark side of the Moon tour and it was one of the most profound experiences of my life.
Nah, not retiring, simply selling most of his collection for charity. He still has plenty.
That may say more about your life than the concert
@@maplebones sure beats trolling CZcams for a living
I'm really impressed and thankful for all the time and hard work you put in to this video. Your channel is one of the best guitar channels on youtube.
If not THE best
Wow, thank you for going to all the trouble to prepare this video. It really made it much more fun to get through the whole collection!
Dude great job! This was a very interesting video. Thanks for taking the time to throw it together!
Excellent work man!
A wonderful video by a wonderful guy thank you
Whenever you mention Denmark Street it fills me with sadness because I moved to London when Denmark Street was still a Mecca for music and have watched it decline since. If you told me that you could run into David Gilmour then, I’d believe you. Now, not so much.
Thanks for taking the time to put this together. Very interesting!
According to the recent documentary on Terry Kath of Chicago, he also owned one of the Strats with the serial number 0001. Looked very similar to David's.
Mott AND the Hoople!!! LOL!
Well spotted 'dude' I noticed that one and also ' around that lock tour' but what a brilliant narrative though eh? Loved it.
That first fender....my dad has had the same blonde strat as long as I can remember. That was always one of the best guitars I ever played
Thank you for your time and effort to document this. It speaks to your love for the guitar ! 🎸
WOW that was a freakin’ epic video
Totally fascinating
I’ve guess I’ve even seen a few of them played live
👍
Great job Austin 🎸😀
Rolling stone Magazine- "Are you selling the 1955 Fender Esquire, on the cover of About Face, that you’ve dubbed “The Workmate”?
David Gilmour - "The Workmate isn’t going. I’m afraid I couldn’t do it."
But he got rid of the Black Strat. How? Why? I'm just sitting here with my mouth hanging open.
Great and informative video which proves that Gilmour was right to sell his collection. You couldn't possibly need all these guitars and there is no point collecting anything - it's just stuff. If he had 20, that would surely be more than enough. Would he have kept the Black Strat and the 0001? Maybe, but I'm sure he realised that the auction had to contain them. I have huge respect for Gilmour and kudos to him for realising that he didn't really need these instruments to make awesome music. He could get any $1000 guitar and make it sound divine.
This video is done well enough to be put on The History Channel or PBS. Just my 2 cents.....
great job, you must be exhausted!
I know this is a old video. But, thank you for making this. I intended to watch a few minutes of it and here I am at the end! And if anyone told you that you have a bad voice or talk to slow would be a Chibson in my book! :)
Thanks for putting all the time and effort in on this video. You did an awesome job, extremely enjoyable!!
Absolutely great work on this video. So darn near $4mil for the Black Strat... is that the highest ever paid for a Strat at auction? You know Christies is smiling their @$$e$ off this morning ... Bob in Germany
Kurt Cobain's 1959 Martin D-18E brought in over 6 million dollars
Thanks A lot for making this truly Awesome video!! Keep Rockin !!
I did not expect to watch the whole video when I clicked on it, but I did. This was awesome, thank you!
Truly an awesome video. I can tell you did a ton of work. I watched it from begining to end.
Holy f$%K Batman!! I was just about to get my head down as its 5:36 in the am here in the UK but this I have to watch. Nice one Austin lad. Yes!! Lol. ;) Might have to watch this either a few times or slowed down to soak it all up.
I spent the whole episode drooling lol. I tried sneaking out of bed after I got the notification on my phone but my missus caught me & gave me 'the look' so I had to get back in bed & wit till now to watch it. I've spent the morning playing Floyd riffs on my old '69 Strat since. Dave's one of the main reasons I learned to play in the first place
This is super guitar porn!! Lol.@@jubei7259
If there is ever an argument that a person can have too many guitars this may be a good example.
@@GoIdenApple To also be fair, Gilmour would have done just as well with a half a dozen guitars.
