  • The Titans were a cycle of Creatures in the 2011 Core set. Each color got one of these cards, and they each had an ability that triggered whenever they entered the battlefield or attacked that was based off of what the color was known for doing. So today, we’re going to go over the best cards with Titan-like abilities, as in they trigger when they enter the battlefield or attack, including the original Titans themselves

      His takes on a lot of Magic Cards honestly aren't great. He has a habit of saying a card is bad because it doesn't currently see play in Legacy or Modern even if that card was format warping in Standard or was considered quite good at the time of its release. Magic has lots of formats and it seems weird to only take one or two of them into consideration when judging a card.

      @@kevinb.2595 i feel like it makes sense to talk about current play for these kinds of cards since his main focus seems to be on providing info for newcomers, but yeah, its not the best approach when it comes to appreciating the entire history of magic. i feel like nizzahon magic's "total format points" system better puts into perspective how dominating a card was in its time while it was in rotation

      @@starduststriker8792 think you slightly missed the point, it's the opposite of what you think, he's saying legacy and modern are all that's being considered, those are eternal formats. How does the Arbor Elf / Utopia Sprawl make 4 Mana on turn 2 ? I don't get it
    If you cast one land and Arbor Elf on the first turn, on the second turn you can cast Utopia for one mana, enchant a land, untap the land you tapped for utopia with Arbor, and that makes you 1 Forest and one Enchanted forest, so 3 mana
    The only way I can see this work would be to cast both cards on turn one, but I don't see how this is possible as Arbor Elf doesn't have Haste to allow to untap the land to cast Utopia...

    As for the two other titans in the cycle,
    Frost Titan is clearly the worst of the five. Tapping and freezing (making permanents unable to be tapped) aren't that impressive and it only has a proto-Ward ability. The only format it thrives in is in Duel Commander, essentially 1v1 commander, which is slow and non-hectic enough for Frost Titan to be an include there.
    Grave Titan's zombie making ability seems to be more of a commander goodness compared to the others. That and Archon of Cruelty overthrows it.

    • @fwg1994
      @fwg1994 Před rokem

      Honestly, Grave Titan has historically been pretty good. It's colors make it naturally suited for reanimator, and it's a pretty strong in a lot of the situations reanimator is typically weak. It's 6 mana, which sits on the threshold of being castable normally, which means you're not completely out of options if someone is going heavy on graveyard hate. It also goes wide pretty quickly, which means you're fairly well insulated against the spot removal that can shut down reanimator. It's starting to fall by the wayside with the printing of cards like Archon of Cruelty, but it had a good run prior.

      I'm surprised Grave Titan wasn't on the list. If I had to rank the five original titans from worst to best in a vacuum, Grave Titan would be second place. I guess Archon of Cruelty usurped it in all relevant categories. RIP Grave Titan.

      @kennydarmawan13 Před rokem

      @@chrisnesja9245 true. But I'm sure Grave Titan sees a lot of usage in Commander. Just making creatures is already a great value.

    • @fwg1994
      @fwg1994 Před rokem

      @@chrisnesja9245 I think it ranks third for me. Prime Time is at the top, as the card has some very powerful payoffs, trample is the most relevant static ability on a titan, and is in the color that most easily casts 6 drops. Then Sun Titan, as there's just so many busted ways to abuse it. Black Lotus, and its many imitators can be returned by it, making it somewhat reasonable to lotus, titan return lotus for an effectively free titan. You can strip lock with a sun titan too. All the enchantments that reanimate a creature are 3 or less cmc. There's a whole bunch of removal spells that are hits with Sun Titan. If you're in a format where Oko is still legal, and your opponent somehow manages to kill Oko, Sun Titan brings it back for round 2. Sun Titan is easily the strongest titan in best case scenario, though getting good cards in your graveyard is a larger ask than Prime Time just asking that you put good cards in your deck. After that comes Grave Titan as an army in a can that also goes tall.

    Glint-Sleeve Siphoner has no business being on the list at all. Not Titan-like in size, flavor, impact on the game, there are hundred and hundreds of cards small creatures with attack-trigger effects that are about as impactful.
    Usually your script-writers do a good job on finding relevant stuff, but this was a miss. If they're familiar with the game, they would know that nobody would ever call Siphoner (or Trespasser) for that matter, Titan-like.
    A Titan-like creature is probably 6CC with an attack trigger that, if it happens a couple of times, probably builds an insurmountable advantage or wins the game. Drawing a card or removing a couple cards from the graveyard isn't that. Still generally enjoy the videos.
