  • Professor James Staples discusses how he got into anthropology in the first place, and how his long-standing interest in food and its connections to class and social mobility eventually led him to South India.
What is anthropology? Anthropology is the scientific study of humanity, concerned with human behavior, human biology, cultures, societies, and linguistics, in both the present and past, including past human species.
James joined Brunel University London as a Lecturer in 2007 and was promoted to Professor in 2022. On this special evening he shared some of his life and career experiences and took questions from the audience. Be inspired by his ground-breaking research in Anthropology.
The lecture explores why we need to rethink the popular idea of India as a vegetarian country, and how vegetarianism might itself become a source of violence.
