EXTREME Mower Testing!! SCAG Vs EXMARK ► Scag Turf Tiger 2 Vs Exmark Lazer Z X-Series ► Who Will Win

  • Today we put the Exmark Lazer Z X-Series and the SCAG Turf Tiger 2 through some extreme mower testing! After getting our hands on the Turf Tiger 2, and using it for a few days, I knew we had to do a side by side comparison for you guys.
    I was pleasantly surprised with the TT2 Demo over the last few days. Rich dropped it off to me with 11 hours, and it currently sits at 26 hours on the unit. That Velocity Cut deck got to go head to head with the Ultra Cut Series 6, to see who came out on top.
    This was just a fun video me and the guys did after hours to just show you guys the extreme mowing conditions we need to put these units through, from time to time. I know this isn't regularly weekly growth, no doubt about it. But it does prove the point that even on one pass, one mower did stack up a little better than the other. We'll let you decide, who came out on top.
    What mower do you guys feel cut better in the tests? Which unit would you demo or maybe even buy in the future? Let me know, leave me a comment down below!

    I bought the turf tiger II with the 35 Vanguard engine. I absolutely love this mower. Worth every penny. Excellent cut awesome stripping. Before this I had a Cub Cadet 2182 super garden tractor which also does an amazing job with the cut and stripes. I was between the exmark lasar z and the scag turf tiger II, but for me the cut and stripes were high on my list.

    Exmark was going faster then the scag. As a exmark everyday user I know if you go 1/4 speed(which the scag did) it will mower smoother. Sorry to burst anyone's bubble.

    Agree with comments below. Started with the Skag blowing it's cut grass onto the eXmark path which made it look worse, but even when that was changed, Brian continued to cut at a faster pace than did the Skag. Even up the deck size, motor hp and the age and then lets try it again. 1000 hours, vs. 20. I mean, C'mon......

    I use a 60in and a 72in xmark. I like how at the end you gave what should be re-evaluated by the developer. This video was helpful cause we are currently looking to add a mower. Our xmark 72 has about 1200 hours on it we cut 60 70 acres a week we've had nothing but trouble with it stuck thousands of dollars into it

    Just a tip: next time you do a comparison test like this, cut with one going in one direction then let the other make the second pass in the opposite direction. That way there’s no blow-over and there’s no strip of high grass in between maybe? Just a suggestion. I enjoyed the video!

    I have had a Scag Tiger Cub for about 7 years. I just broke 200 hours. I use it on my personal home for years and 2 rental properties. I love everything about it. Stable and cuts great.

  • @vwlh8r
    @vwlh8r Před 5 lety +121

    The scag blade stayed cleaner cuz it was blowing onto cut grass the whole way. That seems like a fishy test setup to me. The exmark was discharging against tall grass which in my experience will clog a blade up faster.

  • @fatbuddycat
    @fatbuddycat Před 6 lety +3

    I've ran that Exmark for years when I was working commercial mowing. The great thing is how easy they are to fix on the fly. You really wanna get down in the heavy grass mount up on a Dixie Chopper! Scag is tough though, looks cool as hell too!!

    I just became a Scag guy this week and bought a Scag Patriot. I Switched from Tractors with 54 inch decks to Zero turn as well as from Husqvarna to Scag. I have destroyed 3 54 inch decks in 9 years and believe the Scag will last over 10 years, it cuts fantastic and I do cut grass like you did in the test from time to time. I cut 3 acres 2 times a week on my 13 acre property near Shelbyville, Illinois. I think all the Scags are super well built machines.

  • @christiandawson7668
    @christiandawson7668 Před 5 lety +1

    I sold them here in Australia for 2yrs.
    They are a quality machine and very well built !!. I sold cheetahs and turf tigers to contractors on a number of occasions that had other brands of Zero turns. They did a test drive and fell in love with them. Personally there a favorite of mine also.
    SCAG quality gear for quality results.
    But each to there own ofcourse everyone has there own taste.

    Scag makes a solid mower, I bought one of the first model v rides back in 2012 or so. It has since been retired from my business many years ago at 2200 hours but my dad still mows with it on his 3 acres in FL every week. It always had very irregular maintenance, 100 degree days and was beat on but never let me down. Not sure how many hours it has now but I would buy another. I run a Ferris srs z2 28 efi currently and that’s a great machine as well. The oil guard system is awesome to have.

  • @The400exboyz
    @The400exboyz Před 6 lety +19

    I would say the scag will leave a better cut on the first pass. Mainly because everything on the scag new, fresh, and built more heavy or industrial. However if the exmarks were new it may have been a different outcome. Either way thanks for the comparison!

    I have been cutting grass full-time year-round in South Florida for over 20 years and I have cut just about every type of grass you can think of mostly Saint Augustine, centipede, emerald zoysia and Bermuda and I am an Exmark man myself and I always have been, and if you want a true comparison the mowers need to have the same size engine and the same size cutting deck, and the mowers need to have new blades hi lift or mulching but they need to be new blades and the same brand for it to be a good comparison in my opinion. There’s no way to have a fair comparison of these mowers with the set up that you guys are representing there’s just no way and if you think about it logically I think you would agree that most people that have been doing this as long as I have and yourselves as well would know that, I’m not trying to put you guys down but if you’re going to be fair and have a true comparison that’s the only way to have a good- fair outcome going head to head. And another little footnote to add I noticed that the Exmark mower was running a bit faster during the cutting and the Scagg was going much slower which also has a major affect in the quality of the cutting ability of your mowers, I just wanted to add that important information into the mix😂🤣 😁👍✌️😳

    We run 2 turf tiger 2's 61 inch, a scag 52 inch walk behind, we also have a v ride & a 7 year old scag turf tiger. On the tigers hours are 700, 1250, & 2250. The v has 1750 & the walk behind has about 500 hours on it. We've demoed all kinds of mowers & nothing strips a well as a scag! I agree there are definitely some things that they could improve on the design of the mowers but between how well they run, the customer service, how easy they are to maintain, & how good a yard looks when we finish I'm a scag girl all the way! I run the walk behind everyday & out of all the different brands scag made the hand controls so close together, I absolutely love that. Because after 12 hours of mowing my hands don't hurt from the hand controls being spaced out so far. I know that isn't a problem for men but being a woman who loves to cut grass it's a huge deal to me!! Thank you for your videos, I enjoy learning so I can do better at my job!!

    the scag is definitely going to be better at this sort of stuff, however, I agree with many comments that the scag was going much slower ad that it blew all the grass clippings on the exmark's pass which made it seem as though the exmark did a poor job when in reality it did pretty well

      First I own neither brand mower. I too noticed that in the first pass, the Scag was blowing its clippings on top of what the EX-Mark cut. The first pass told me nothing.
      On the second pass, I noticed that the operator of the Scag was going A LOT slower than the driver of the EX-Mark. Cutting tall grass, the quality of the cut has to do with blade sharpness and *dwell* time. The slower you go, the better the cut.
      If you really want to have a fair comparison, or FAIRER comparison, have the same driver use both mowers. Or have them trade off. Just my .02.

Seat sucks over time. Fuel gauge placement is a pain in the but. Brake lever is sorry after some hours put on the machine. Also noticed that the first few passes that make the Scag seem that much better had the X-Series leading the first cut and then the TT2 shooting into a clean lane. Took all the load off the Scag since it didn’t have to overcome shooting into 2 foot tall grass and getting caught in the deck that I guarantee the Exmark was dealing with the first few passes. On top of what you already mentioned of going faster, made it look a ton worse.

    I recently opened a lawn care company with my dad, and the problem we are finding with most residents is that the gates to the back yards are very small. To avoid having to push mow an entire back yard do you have a narrow riding mower you would recommend, preferably a zero turn mower and preferably commercial grade.

    • @aarongrant7402
      @aarongrant7402 Před 5 lety

      M Standard I have done some research on the hustlers, and although I have never owned one they seem to be a very well built machine. However weather we are talking walk behind or stand on by hustler, the smallest they offer is a 36 inch cut which i would guess is about 38 inches wide. Many of these homes have small gates 36 inch and some even smaller 34-36 inch gates have seemed to be the most common size range. So a 36 inch cutting deck would not fit through a 36 inch gate as the deck would be slightly larger. That is where a 30 or 32 inch riding mower would be perfect, but who makes it? I know Wright makes a 32 inch stand on mower but it is a fixed height, which in my opinion is absolutely useless! Going from one clients yard to the next I absolutely need the ability to adjust my cutting height without getting out a too kit and un bolting wheels.

    you cant beat a turf tiger, especially the old ones with liquid cooled kawaski. the guy I've mowed with for years bought one in 2010 and it's still going in 2021 with nearly 8,000 hours. good maintenance goes a long way. no engine work ever done to it besides typical belts, a fuel pump, and some deck work ... you also have to know what you're doing too. every scag we've ever used went beyond 5000 hrs, even the old air cooled tiger Cubs and we weren't just cutting thin little shit neither. these mowers are legit. just a side note: John Deere's commercial mowers are the biggest pieces of shit that ever existed

    Hey guys. Thank you for doing videos like this. That are very informative. I have to say, I don’t own a zero turn but I am in the market. I’ve only ran one zero turn and it was a residential hustler. I fell in love with it. My mower, when I get it, will be for residential use on about 3 acres. I had my heart set on a bad boy Maverick HD. After having sat on one at the dealer, I really didn’t like it. So now I’m looking at an Exmark Radius E or S series. There’s a Scag dealer about 25 miles away, so I want to go check those out. But I’m thinking I like the Exmark for comfort. The steering handles on the Exmark felt way better than the Bad boy too. But I’m doing my due diligence. Thanks again.

    So I tried out several mowers and narrowed it down to the Kubota Zd1511 and a Scag Turf Tiger 2 37efi. Both cut great, I mow up hill quite a bit and neither mowers bogged down while others did. The Scag stripes better, the Kubota handles better on slopes due to weight mostly but it still maneuvers better on flat ground as well the Kubota was also slightly more comfortable. I was completely surprised by the fuel consumption there was no clear winner there both out performed my expectations. As far as the cut in taller grass the Kubota probably edges out the Scag but as far as normal cutting and cleaner finish the Scag wins for me with less clippings and the striping. I went with the Scag because of the price it was 6500 less and there wasn't enough to justify spending more,and I own a Kubota tractor Grand L4060. Both models are phenomenal mowers and you cant go wrong with either one. I mow 8 acres of grass in KY and about every terrain imaginable but none of it is extreme.

    We run Lazer Z's in the spring and fall only for cleanups, and we sell them and buy new ones every 2000 hours. The rest of the year from May till October we run solely exmark turf tracers with stand on velkies. They fit in almost any spot way easier, and also can mow pretty much any single slope in any direction with near perfect traction. On every mower we run, we do maintenance weekly, and do full oil and fluid changes every 100 hours since each machine mows close to 150 lawns weekly. We stand by exmark solely, and that's because they are far more reliable than any other mower brand in our experience. Far less parts failing, far less issues in general, and also because they've been in the game so long and actually listen to their customers and plan each feature out intently and intuitively. I wouldn't buy any other brand. Our machines could go strong for years past 2000 hours and are just as good at performing at 2000 as they were brand new. Only reason we replace them every 2000 hours is to get the newer features and to start fresh every couple years and to also get the most resale value out of them especially being used as much as ours are.

    Hey guys great video just wanted to say somethings. I have owned john Deere ,Husqavarna, and exmark zero turns. They all seem to miss grass compared to a scag i borrowed from a friend. I cut 30 acres with the scag hardly ever miss I thought i would never say scag is good but i dont have to cut twice with the scag. With the other mowers they miss have to cut twice. And also on weedeaters i think husqavarna are the best but terrible on the zero turns. Head brake on shindawia, red max, and my steel weedeater carburator went out on the first month. But hope anyone who reads this help them out a lot this is on the commerical side. I am changing to scag when i am done with the others for sure. And also with the scag it has 1300 hrs on it and barely had any major breakdowns. I am sold.

    Thanks for the comparison ..... however, to me, it appears this wasn’t a fair test; HP, wheel size, speed of cut, amount cut per pass. My assessment is the Exmark was driven first and much faster, and obviously with full cut loads and demanding all available HP. The TT2 followed, was driven slower and cut behind the Exmark. The test may have been better if they ran parallel and at the same rate of speed for 20 yards to assess the cut quality. Remember, there is serviceability and support to factor into buying decisions. Both good units, but I’m not swayed to move away from Exmark.
