    I think with some left over batik fabric blocks, a tote bag will be pretty with the center of the butterfly in black, and the 2 1/2" strips as a handle would be darling. I was waiting for Jenny to pop back in with a table runner or something else to temp us with another project, lol, love you, JENNY! ;) Thank you so very much!

    I love these butterflies! My own inclination is to put a black (or dark purple) strip in for the body. I think any color would work great though!

    I am in the process of making this for my 4 year old granddaughter, I am using black in the center of the butterfly's (her moms request) and as the cornerstones, also my butterfly's are 3 shades of the same color. Example, light, medium and dark purple for one, light, medium, dark blue for another, etc. I am also mixing it with some applicate flower blocks she wants to. Her 2 year old brother helps me by sitting and watching me sew and handing me the strips (not always the right ones) but we are having fun. I love watching your tutorials, I am a mother of 7, 5 boys and 2 girls, and right now 20 grandchildren so I have lots of quilts I can make.

      Black or gray, with your colors, even purple would set the center of the butterfly off so well. Think I will give it a try. Thanks

    I am a fairly new quilter and am halfway done with this quilt. It is lovely! However, I can't see on the tutorial where you say how wide the sashing strips need to be between the butterflies. Are they 2 1/2 inches? Thank you in advance Jenny. You are a blessing to me. I stay up til after one o'clock in the morning just watching your tutorials. LOL God bless you!

    Love this quilt, I'm also wondering about the corner stones. I have made a few of your quilts.

      Sandy Thornton sorry about that ..2.5 inch squares sewn to sashing strips

      Sandy Thornton ..hi it's jenny and I got the corner stones from the leftover piece from making the block set. I just cut 2.5 inch strips and took them apart and used them for the corner stones.

    I'm having trouble following the math. If the strip squares are 6 1/2" each (unfinished), when the pairs are sew together, shouldn't that yield 12 1/2" (unfinished), so the center white strip should be 12 1/2" by 1 1/2", vs the directions of 12" by 1 1/2"? And then when the other wing is added, shouldn't the unfinished width be 13 1/2"? Did I miss a trimming step?

      Made my first butterfly, and yes my length came out 12 1/2” x 131/2” wide. I had to stretch and ease my center strip to fit , since I cut all the pieces. Ironed the finished butterfly and I think it’s going to work out, used lots of starch it is laying flat.

      I realised the block was 13.5 inches wide, before I cut my sashing. Phew!!

    A binding wasn't mentioned or that I could see. Did you bind it and if so what did you use. Did you use the border and self bind? Would really like to know. Love you tutorials.
    Thank you.

    I am sorry but i have a question: Is it better to make a complete butterfly or is it better to do them in steps and get them all done at the same time?

    Hey Guys! Could you think about doing a tutorial on cutting and attaching borders? Like how and where you join the strips. Seams in the middle or does it matter? Sides first or top and bottom? Just so we know how YOU do it.

      @fhood100 Před 7 lety +1

      Lol! You could call it, "The rest of the story" and quote Paul Harvey at the end. .... And now you know... The rest of the story.

    hello Jenny, i am a big time fan of
    your quilts. I am working on this butterfly quilt with batiks right now and want to know if the strips (between the rows) are 1.5 “ and the corner stones are 2.5”?
    not sure how to match them please guide me

    • @MissouriQuiltCo
      @MissouriQuiltCo  Před 6 lety

      That is a great question! The body of the butterfly is 1.5" and the squares for snowballing are 2.5" squares. Each butterfly block will not be a square just so you are aware. I hope this helps!

    I’m making this quilt right now. My squares came out 1/4” bigger, and the 1.5” strip in between is measuring 13”! Looks the same, so I guess it’s ok?

    If I use red, white, and black fabrics would it look strange to use black honeybun strips for the body of the butterfly? Also, what is the size of a king quilt?

      This would make a darling baby quilt Trayne1837! It's about 12", and could possibly be done in a smaller block. We'd love to hear how it turns out!

      So if I do a 6inch block.... I should use 1.5 strips...( I am not that good at this, but I can play with some scrap material to make it and see..). that should give me a 3.5 block... I will work on it...
