What surprises me is how the Japanese people seemingly don't care much about the Japanese cards compared to Americans and the English cards. I'd say Americans are even significantly more interested in the Japanese cards than the Japanese are...
Its because they have sushi. Have you ever has authentic Japanese sushi from a sushi master IN japan... You'd consider selling your cards too just to get another taste...
In my experience I’ve noticed that Americans are so much more biased towards their English cards which I don’t understand when it’s not OG and lesser quality.
Pokemon is bittersweet for me because I got all my cards jacked in New York City, 2011. I remember begging my mom to buy a pack for me every time we went to 99 Ranch Market. Anyways. My first Japanese base set pack I purchased I opened up, I got a no rarity Charizard.
Love it❗️ I love Japanese vintage and holds a ton of value to me as a collector. I respect 1st edition English cards but where I’m at is Japanese vintage. But, I’ve gotta say I disagree on the English Vs Japanese subject. English is quite more accessible now compared to Japanese vintage.
I think the argument that the no rarity error isn't unique is kind of weak considering that like you said we are talking about the first printed pokemon set. Considering how nuts collectors go for any and i mean ANY variation for the first edition English base set cards (ie, grey stamp, thick stamp, thin stamp, miscut, off center) I do believe that these cards will catch on eventually in the the long run but I'm not saying they will compete in any way with the first edition base English set. I do agree that it will still take more time for no rarity to get going within collecting and the market and that at the moment the only no rarity cards that have any attention are the psa 10 cards which is likely because they are japanese cards and collectors tend to want their japanese cards to be out of the pack psa 10 gem mint because of japanese cards being higher quality print. Great video too.
At the end there you said you have yet to open one up with no rarity on video. Does that mean you have actually opened up no rarity in the decks before off camera? Just interested. I do think it would be cool to pull one myself Although, yea not a huge fan of the no rarity. I think they are cool. I own a few. But yea lol
How would I go about valuing no rarity now? It's so hard for me to find some, but I have some nice looking cards from then. Like no rarity holo alakazam. few others. So confused on how to find pricing. It's just there isn't all that much to go by that I know how to look up and some cards have very little sold. Any help would be appreciated a lot!
I think a lot of people who had pre 2013 graded no raringtons, and later found out about them, would have resubmitted them and would be reflected by the pop report. I don't think all no raringtons in the pop report were graded for the first time post 2013.
Can anyone explain to me what 'no rarity symbol error' means. The cards with this description seem legit, but them saying no error feels like its a newer card but with the symbol missing by mistake, not by design.
smpratte was hoping you could share your thoughts on staff pre-release promos if they have a future as a collectable due to there limited quantity compared to the cards released in the actual sets because of there large print runs thanks
Hey boss. Those ninetales have a completely different shadowing/color/outline detail. Ninetales body is outlined different. And the no rarity are much softer than the symboled which is darker and much more shadowed. As you can tell I informally collect no rarity but these subtle differences make it and break it for me. Thanks for all your content ! Have a good one!
Hey man. Old video but question. If this is your opinion on no rarity. What about the error dark dragonite error non holo. Is that a nitch as well. Only 3 in existence but price doesn’t show
I am a big fan. Can you do a video on prices of Japanese and English cards. The similarities, variations and long term projections. Mainly WOTC japanese and english cards.
I really Do like your informative videos on the Pokémon TCG. In my opion they are the best you can find on CZcams so far! Personally I also prefer the Japanese cards. Pokémon was one of the reasons I started studying Japanese at university. Without Pokémon I basically wouldn't have got the chance to spend two years over there for studying. However, I got a question on the structure of the first Japanese cards. Few years ago I was lucky to catch three of the first starter decks (the booklet says "4th revised version" (第4版)). Until that I didn't had any experience with the first Japanese cards because I started to collect them in the XY-Aera. My first impression was that they are a little bit thin in comparision with later cards or the German base set. Can you confirm that? The cards themself look very goog printed, the manual und the packaging was accurate so that I don't think that they ar fake, but I still have a little discomfort. Last but not least: great collection! I really envy you for that stuff. Didn't got the Japanese base set complete but I'm totally fine with the childhood memories the few cards got me back. Perhaps looking to complete the set the next time I'm there. Greetings from Germany!
Correction: There seem to exist six different types of the first starter deck and you can distinguish them by the wrapping and the printed text ( choco7maron.blog.fc2.com/blog-entry-257.html ). Cards without rarity symbol can only be found in the very first printing. This means a double layer of wrapping and this sentence printed on the back: "1箱の中味は、どれも同じではありません。". A photo can be found here: blog-imgs-117.fc2.com/c/h/o/choco7maron/DIqrM8KVoAAAhrI.jpg
One further addition: Another suggestion is that there could be a similarity to the preconstructed theme decks of the gym series. They were regularly sold without rarity symbol. A few people argue that this could be the same case with the "Base set gift box" (ポケットモンスターカードゲームギフトパック) of December 1996. If you follow the argumentation of the person who wrote the above mentioned blog, every of this gift boxes contains only cards without rarity symbol: czcams.com/video/8ujr8z_1Wvs/video.html
It’s interesting to see smpratte being so wrong and off about a Pokémon product 4 years on (since this video was made) as a PSA 10 no rarity Charizard is arguably worth more than a PSA 10 First Edition Charizard. It’s a great look back into history. Imagine buying no rarity theme decks 4 years ago and dropping a large amount into anything no rarity. You would have made A LOT of money and become very wealthy. I still respect his opinion, but he was wrong on this. No Rarity Japanese base cards are worth more than first edition base set for most cards. It’s interesting.
No rarity is no longer a niche, it is now a rarity 😂

@@owlacoustics3634 you're so lame
It's not "also" the first set printed, it is _the_ first set printed.
This will be the next Holy grail, imagine the first ever print run of pokemon cards and just stayed for 1-2 weeks

Superb, thank you for your content.
Keep innovating the Pokémon game, my dawg.
interesting conversation about how markets define price. Curious to see the future of no rarity because markets can shift

Is there a link for the 'no rarity' post on e4? Would like to check it out! Thanks!
great video Sam
oh how prices have changed/ no rarity will start rising massively soon :)
I hope so man i just found a full binder full of no rarity gym challenge cards in perfect shape
@@chrispadilla9667 Yeah that's still cool with some value, but the base set are special because it's the first print of Pokémon cards ever.
Shadow less is also a newer subset on the pop reports.
well said and relevant 3 years later
I'm curious how you feel about this now? Have you made a new video about it?

Great video! I have factory sealed box decks of that set. Video coming soon
oh, how things have changed
thanks for sharing

No rarity is most valuable than 1st edition shadowless today LOL
Holds a lot more value, indeed.

one truth staff pre-release promos are expensive. I'm pretty sure they'll stay collectable.

Legendary collection dark dragonite reverse holo was non holo too lol
Fernando Marroquin I’m talking about an actual error on this specific dragonite. Look it up
Someone missed the boat on these sounds like.😂

I’m I getting a good price if I buy a box of them for 200$?
What’s the box called
Is there first edition shadowless and unlimited shadowless?
so all first edition are shadowless?
Hello, I have about 1000 pokemon cards from my childhood, do you recommend someone/company that could help me get them graded and valued?
PSA or BGS
where's your lab coat? 🔬
similarly to 4th prints :D
Well this didn't age well..

I've never had any interest in Japanese cards. I know that lots of people like them but I prefer english
I prefer Japanese cards that were never printed in English.
Why have you 4 ilustrate cards?
You talk more about 1st Edition Base than no rarity it my as well be a chat about 1st Edition base!
not really
