I used to repeatedly watch these videos when I was younger lol. Im revisiting this video after marios madness v2 came out because im obssessed with how fucking insane 7 Grand Dad is and I want to see more of him and his game
11:12 the change on that one, well at least on the one I played, is that when you are on a map and bring up the collected power-ups panel, then when pressing 'select' a blinking mushroom power-up will appear, and then by continuously pressing 'up' one can scroll thru all of the power-ups and choose whichever one wants before entering a stage. I wonder if the one that came in your cartridge has that feature.

And ripping off Mario's character and putting in a Sonic game ISN'T copyright infringement?
Vincent's Television technically no because it isn't called sonic or mario and the colours or the level isn't quite the same as sonic or mario levels so therefore it gets away with being a rip off; it doesn't use any names, settings or colour themes from the sonic or mario games. sure somari looks a loot like Mario but not quite the same and the game play is a little different to sonic (only because it is buggy). in other words this game was clearly made to rip off both sonic and mario but it was changed enough to get away with it.
Kitty, it is copyrighted and illegal. Using Mario's image at all and sonic's game engine for profit in which credit is not given and consent is not received is VERY illegal. The levels thing is correct, but the rest, while it has been changed a lot, still isn't ok. Even if its not Mario, it even explicitly uses the same sequences for the music and sonic's game engine, which is closed source. If they had a factory and mass produced these in America or Japan, they would literally be sued to the point of not being able to afford food by Sega, and then they would be sued again by Nintendo for their lives. (We all know how Nintendo is when it comes to basically anything.)
Somari never used Sonic's game engine... it's impossible (or very hard to) port a 16-bit engine to an 8-bit system.
