Claudia and David is a 1946 American comedy-drama film directed by Walter Lang. It stars Dorothy McGuire and Robert Young. Dorothy McGuire and Robert Young repeat their roles from the film Claudia (1943). Like its predecessor, Claudia and David was based on a series of short stories by Rose Franken, which also inspired a successful stage play and radio series. A third movie was planned but never made.
Claudia (Dorothy McGuire), still charmingly naive and a bit nervous, is struggling with the responsibilities of marriage and parenthood in their rural Connecticut town. Jealousy creeps into the relationship when Elizabeth (Mary Astor) starts consulting David on a building project, while Claudia is attracting the uninvited attentions of Phil (John Sutton), who happens to be married. There is a reason people like me are finding movies like this. Tonight I am just reaching back to simple times when marriage and family were common and revered, and marriages were reinforced by society (with all that that brought in) I love these old films that were simple plots and meaningful feelings. Today we have such division and estranged families. I just enjoy the "working through" of simple misunderstandings - without the drama of our times.
"No matter what influences come into our lives nothing can hurt our marriage if it's strong and clean at the core." A sentiment that is rarely seen in today's movies.
Thank you for sharing your wonderful Gems ! Rare and amazing, how I love the way things were back in the elder days , a women acted like one ,a man asked as one , the times were to be good and proper , every e attended church on Sundays ,Sunday was for family ,everything was closed ! To give families TOGETHER time , there wasn’t that much sin then , people new their neighbours ,people helped everyone, doctor’s visits your home , the preach comes for supper ever second month , their was more respect , children were raised very well, They prayed the Lord’s Prayer e every morning in the schools ,as soon as that was stopped by a terrible atheist , it was like the devil was released ! I enjoy watching these Gems take me away to a different time and place ,also takes me away from this dark world we live in now ! Thank you For sharing God Bless you and your family! Fr.Canada ❤️🙏🇨🇦
The first movie I saw Dorothy McGuire in was Old Yeller! Loved Friendly Persuasion,Gentleman’s Agreement, A Summer Place, three Coins in a Fountain!
I enjoy quieter places away
from the constant hustle of the big city when I go to visit my hometown.
Robert and Dorothy both also starred in 1946s Enchanted Cottage, an excellent romantic fantasy drama.
Enchanted cottage is a must see for everyone! A fav of mine…
That was excellent movie. I’ve watched Enchanted Cottage countless times. And will watch it again.
Loved that movie!
Loved that movie!
Having grown up watching 'Father Knows Best' in the Fifties, I was amazed, many years later, to discover the wonderful films that Robert Young had made before he became the wise, loving TV dad Jim Anderson. He was quite versatile as a leading man, and always quite watchable.
I love him ❤ he made over 90 films between 1931 and 1954, plus the TV shows. H.M. Pulham Esq. and The Enchanted Cottage are my favorites with him, but there are so many great and underrated movies in his filmography... 😊

He was great in Marcus Welby M.D. I grew up watching him in that.😊
Mary Astor is always great.
Lovely movie! Also love seeing Gail Patrick and Mary Astor, so what a treat to see them in the same movie.
It's a great family movie.
"...but that was B.S." " What B.S.?" "Before Spots." LOL!! Those were the days!
I'll enjoy any performance by Mary Astor, as small a role as this was.
Fresh and sweet as a spring morning., was this heart warning,...clean....full of grace movie,❤🤗
1946, the year my mother learned to drive ... and put up with all those women-driver jokes.
What a find, this lovely movie from an era when everyone was gracious. And, some favourite old stars we don't see enough of.
A million thanks for putting this online. It made my day!
Three of my favorite actresses in one movie: Mary Astor, Gail Patrick( in a likeable role), and Rose Hobart.
not to mention Dorothy McGuire AND Florence Bates!!
Love Robert Young….so many wonderful movies on utube. Thank you!!
This is a very touching and sweet movie! One of your favorites once you’ve seen it!!
Thank you for sharing this charming movie! I wish they still made them quality like this
Thank you for the movie. Wonderful. Loved Claudia too. Awww how I wished they had been in colour.
Great movie with lots of comical one-liners. Robert is so underrated.
The neighbor you'd like and the uncle you want.
Clean cut wholesome with an admirable confidence and care free demeanor that is rare.
“And Baby makes 3”
How could you possibly know he was underrated? He had a long and successful career and was very popular and overcame a terrible booze adiction.
@@keithharvey7230 true, BUT, he was nevertheless under rated. In other words, he was acclaimed as much as he should have been!
I meant to write he was NOT as acclaimed as he ought to have been.
Thank you! I watched Claudia for the first time last night. Now what a treat the sequel!
So glad you enjoyed both films, thanks for watching 😊
Me, too! I love Dorothy McGuire and with Robert Young, a perfect match for this couple. Happy to see there is more!
I see this is like a follow on movie about Claudia and David since Claudia (1943) ... so happy to see... I totally enjoyed Claudia .Thanku again ❤
I like this movie very much.
Enjoyed watching this, thanks for uploading
Sweet Movie. Thank you.
she left the car door open and the dome light will suck the battery dead
I have chai normous anxiety just watching this movie but I can't stop watching it😮
Thank you for posting this movie. I'm surprised I watched it because I couldn't stand their movie about the enchanted home, I can't remember the name. Dorothy McGuire can act. It's really more like a play, which I appreciate, and it has a lot of real life interpersonal feelings and situations. I pray people return to the days of so many friends and family in their lives. We aren't meant to isolate, it's like we stop evolving and become too selfish. Anyway a surprise and a pleasant one. Thanks. (I don't think I would ever pass up watching Mary Astor in anything.)
Please don’t confuse being sanctified with being selfish
They are opposites
The movie is The Enchanted Cottage. 😊
Have you seen Invitation? 1952
Best vintage channel on the platform. Amazing content!
Aw thank you so much ☺️
Loved it !
That's Lucy and Rickie's house!!😅
23:47 Wow!
A doctor that makes "house calls" at midnight.... and all dressed up in a suite no less.
maybe he came from a dinner party, like the stars.
And will be back first thing in the morning, he said.
If u can before watching this movie watch Claudia Claudia n David was the sequel n even better
Young Marcus Welby ❤
great relationships
The volume on this is low. I have mine turned all the way up.
This is great, but I was thinking of a different movie where Robert Young was a disfigured shoulder who's fiance left him and he went to recover at a cottage and fell in love with the unattractive awkward housekeeper. And each thought the other was beautiful. The enchantment.
They leave their car door wide open @5:35 and take their parcels and go into the house.

1:00:00 Oh.... Oh.... The "bad news" music.
Great movie! Do you have the 1932 movie Dance Team?
No, I don't have this one but I will keep searching. Anyway, thanks for watching 😊
I'm seeing _a lot_ of stuttering, especially in the 44:00 range. Is it just me?
Why can’t they put a good looking man for us to drool over? 😊

Comedy Romance
WTF-a car overturns, and the driver is taken to a “doctor’s office”?! I know this is 1946, but wouldn’t someone call an ambulance to come right to the scene?
So-called "Mary Astor" was born Lucile Vasconcellos Langhanke Why the public deceit & disrespect of her family name?
Volume is to low

45:41 What's about to happen here Claudia has brought on herself by allowing this woman's husband to spend "alone time" with her, buy her flowers.....
He's a married man and she's a married woman and neither of them should be putting themselves in situations like that. He shouldn't be sending her flowers and she shouldn't be accepting them.
Edit:
Okay, after this "woman to woman" talk these two have, Claudia and Phil need to severely limit their contact with each other and be on their guard not to even do anything that gives the perception of having any contact. They both owe it to their spouses.
Edit:
50:10 Boy oh boy, this marriage is really "F'd" up and dysfunctional.
What in the world is he thinking coming home so late under the current situation with his wife? They're both acting like children playing with a loaded firearm and have no idea how dangerous the thing is or the consequences of their actions if they get it wrong.
They need to sit down, do some serious talking, maybe even get some professional help if it was available back then, and straiten this marriage out.... NOW!
35:57 I am going to guess these flowers are NOT from her husband.
If so, then the guy that sent them is being disrespectful to her husband and she should send them back or reject them.
Can't decide if this is a spoiler or not.
@@BroonParker Not intended to be a "spoiler", just my guess.
If you like saccharine, you’ll LOVE this film.
I love these old movies but boy are they sexist!
You're not wrong!
Something was missing in my upbringing. Those "femiine" excuses, eg, "It's this car : it always does that." Something went missing when femininity turned to "Vernunft".- (reason).
David was a charming jerk. Phil should have left his wife for Claudia and Claudia divorce David. David left his sick son on his birthday to do what he wanted. Totally selfish. Was very flippant and insulting to her. And controlling. Claudia was worried about her child and he blew her concerns off. Then yelled at her for her innocent actions. Boy, he'd have been gone.
That would be a very different film. Didn't you like this one?
@@BroonParker The original film Claudia was very different. David was much nicer. But Claudia was annoying and exhausting in both films. I would not want to come home to her.
30:52 What a simp.
As far as I am concerned she could continue sleeping in that room after those things she said to me.
I wouldn't ask her to come back, she'd have to ask me to come back and then do some serious apologizing..... But that's just me.
Why should she apologize? David is unsupportive and dismissive of her concerns. Phil would make her a better husband. He knew she was worried about her child and helped her, immediately.
All these rewrites ...
I couldn’t stand Claudia or her husband & was so relieved when this movie was over--would’ve been more interesting if David had died...but I doubt it.
