      Yeah as seen in the books the Lord of Admirals was a dick but the Didact did respect him. A copy of the Lord was awakened in the mind of a human named Chakas after he, another human named Riser and a young Forerunner named Bornstellar rescued the Didact from a similar Cryptum on Earth 100,000 years ago. The Lord of Admirals had been executed through the Composer and the Librarian had placed copies of his mind and the people who had been Composed in humanity's genetic code as part of her plans. Meeting the Didact and traveling with him awakened Forthencho (because that's his actual name) and his copy actually tried to side with the Flood on Installation 07 in a final effort to defeat the Forerunners. Didn't work but he survived in the mind of Chakas, transformed into 343 Guilty Spark, for over a hundred thousand years. Spark got rid of him for good between the events of the Forerunner Saga books and his rescue during Halo: Renegades in 2557 where Spark teamed up with the crew of a salvage ship led by the daughter of John Forge from Halo Wars who was searching for her father and the Spirit of Fire.

    I just realised that at 0:14, when the human ship is scanning the Forerunner ship, you can actually SEE the Flood on the Forerunner ship. Those 5 blue lights on the Forerunner ship shouldn't be obstructed, but 4 of them are partially obstructed by random opaque blobs. Not to mention the uneven growths covering the rest of the back section of the Forerunner ship.
    Forerunner aesthetic would never do something like that on purpose, so its highly likely these were Flood lifeforms stuck to the outside of the ship and had perhaps already infected some Forerunners on the ship, without Forerunner command realising... most likely because the Flood intentionally tried to keep themselves hidden from the Forerunners at this point in time to provoke a war between the Forerunners and Ancient Humanity, all part of the Flood's plan to destroy the Forerunners and reset the galaxy state for humanity to be tested next (by the Precursors).

    For all of you out there who ask the question "Why didn't the humans just warn the Forerunners" here is the answer:
    The political situation at the time was extremely dangerous. Humans were expanding at an alarming rate and being a naturally violent species didn't exactly help relations either. The Forerunners saw humanity as an affront to the Mantle, much like the Covenant would do many years later. A war was inevitable. If you actually read the Forerunner trilogy of books you would know that the whole war was a feint on the Floods part. The Flood enacted their plan flawlessly, giving prehistoric humanity enough time to detect the Flood on Forerunner planets, but not enough time or evidence to convince the Forerunners of their story. As such, for most of the war, the Forerunners simply believed the Flood to be an excuse the humans used as justification of the massacre of billions of biological beings across the Forerunner ecumene in unprovoked attacks. It was this arrogance and hatred for humanity that would ultimately lead to the firing of the Halo Array 10 thousand years later.
    The whole thing was orchestrated by the Flood. They did it as best as it could ever have done, and it changed the galaxy forever.

    • @nihilityjoey
      @nihilityjoey Před 7 lety +38

      Avalanche That was nicely put. This is why I don't believe the flood was a precursor weapon or revenge against the forerunners. What the primordial told the didact would have all been lies. Humanity being the precursors chosen species; whilst wiping them out along with everyone else. The whole cure thing. I think the flood became the "flood" when some parasitic organism was encountered by the precursors. And that this organism infected them (or some). And given the unique biological properties of the precursors themselves this organism was able to mutate into the gravemind/flood that the inhabitants of the milky way encountered.

    • @AvalancheZ250
      @AvalancheZ250 Před 7 lety +22

      nihilityjoey that could also be true. No information directly pertaining to the precursors and what happened to them has been released yet, all we have is the primordials word, and he was basically already a gravemind when the Didact killed him. It could well have all been lies

    • @syzorst
      @syzorst Před 7 lety +68

      I disagree, The flood was the Precursors way of punishing the Forerunners. In the books it was stated by the Forerunners that the Flood could've consumed the galaxy in just a few centuries. This shows the Flood was holding back to make the Forerunners suffer.
      What's most intriguing is how that well coordinated their efforts. Having their AI turn against them which is ironic as how the Forerunners turned against their creators. And as farfetched this might sound the Flood allowed the Forerunners to fire the Halo Array. Instead of destroying them outright, the Flood let the Forerunners destroy themselves and also the Domain which was like the soul to the Forerunners. In truth I believe this was the Precursors way of cleaning the slate if you will to the galaxy to start fresh. The galaxy was heavily ruled by the Forerunners who were not suppose to have the Mantle so the Flood carefully planned strategically have the galaxy wipe clean with no Forerunners.
      It's also worth noting how much the Flood was saved humanity and was secretly helping them since humanity was the species the Precursors chose.
      With the Flood being the main threat the Forerunners sparred humanity instead of wiping out. Even in the current time, the Flood was secretly helping humanity from the Covenant. It was the Flood that infected High Charity which was the capital of the Covenant and if it wasn't for the Flood humanity would've been killed off by the Covenant.

    • @nihilityjoey
      @nihilityjoey Před 7 lety +14

      Anthony Doc That still doesn't say the flood was a precursor weapon against the forerunners, created or otherwise.
      The precursors could have destroyed the forerunners I think they chose not too, for a number of reasons but most of all I believe because of their philosophy - the mantle. So, if they would not destroy the forerunners even in defence of their existence it makes no sense to me that they would take revenge in the form of the flood. Not only that but if the humans were the true inheritors of the mantle why was the flood destroying them wholesale as well?
      The only references to the flood being a weapon against the forerunners came from the primordial, who; as avalanche stated was already an infected precursor, or a proto gravemind. It would have been filling the humans and forerunners with lies for the simple tact of devide and conquer. The humans were doing a hell of a job attacking the flood before they had to contend with the forerunners as well. And by the time the forerunners forced an end to the war the flood had spread too far for the remaining forerunner empire to stop it.
      I believe that whilst hiding from the forerunners in the dwarf galaxy the the precursors came across some sort of biological organism, it could have been an organism or sub set indigenous to that galaxy, kind of like the araithus bug in the pegasus galaxy (stargate atlantis). And this organism infected some or all of these precursors. Now from what is told about the biological attributes of the precursors this organism could have mutated along with the precursor creating the flood. Kind of like the goa'uld getting an ancient for a host mmhh very bad. This new organism/flood would have had access to all of the knowledge about not only the precursor forerunner war but of the milky way and the humans. That along with the precursors neural capabilities this organisms infestation and merger with a precursor could have totally given rise to what the milky ways inhabitants called the flood.
      The pod the humans found containing the primordial and the "dust" would have been the trojan horse by which thd flood could achieve its foothold in our galaxy. You have a new organism with the memories, neural ability and knowledge of a life seeding race - the precursors and the mutagenic, hive mind capabilities of this organism. That right there is a bad combination - the flood.
      They never destroyed the domain. They just cut the forerunners off from using it.

      @syzorst Před 7 lety +26

      *That still doesn't say the Flood was a Precursor weapon against the forerunners*
      The Flood are the Precursors but by accident so they went along with it. The Flood was the Precursors way of getting back at the Forerunners for their betrayal. This was stated by the Primordial.
      *it makes no sense to me that they would take revenge in the form of the flood*
      It would make sense. You have to remember that the Precursors cannot not truly be killed. They are a transcendence race of beings that are beyond the concept of life. That transcend the physical realm. Their physical bodies that the Forerunners destroyed are more like avatars. As it states in the novel. "The Precursors live in many different forms, can die, reborn or reincarnate". The Precursors let the Forerunners go on their rampage thus proving why the Forerunners do not deserve to inherit the Mantle. The Flood is a means to wipe the slate clean of the Forerunners for their betrayal.
      *if the humans were the true inheritors of the mantle why was the Flood destroying them wholesale as well*
      Remember the Precursors has to test each species. The Flood outbreak was Precursors way of testing humanity to how to deal with the crisis which they passed. Ancient Humanity sacrificed 1/3 of their population to counter the Flood. They passed which in turn the Flood retreated and left them alone. Also by doing so this gave the illusion that Humanity found a cure to Flood infection which made the Forerunners not destroy humanity. As a quote in Halo Silentium by the Didact.
      "Only the threat of the Flood kept me from utterly destroying humanity, but now I realized the tactic of the Flood. First Infecting and then redrawing and so implying humans knew of a way to combat the disease. Favored by the Flood".
      Futhermore, during the last stages of the Forerunner-Flood war, The Flood destroyed the greater Ark which housed the remaining Forerunner Empire while the lesser Ark housed the remaining species including humanity which the Flood didn't destroy even though they could have.
      *primordial, who; as avalanche stated was already an infected precursor, or a proto Gravemind. It would have been filling the humans and Forerunners with lies for the simple tact of divide and conquer*
      Highly unlikely, remember the Flood are the Precursors reincarnated. The Flood was already dominating humanity and could've finished them off but chose not to for 2 reasons which I already gave.
      1.) To give the illusion that humanity found a cure to flood infection which in turn would spar humanity from the Forerunners wrath.
      2.) To make their presence known. If a force was strong enough to overpower ancient humanity which was stated by the Forerunners to be the 2nd most power species in the galaxy then the Flood would be a huge threat to the Forerunners.
      *They never destroyed the domain*
      The Domain is sentient which the Halo destroys sentient life. The Domain was caught in the Halo's firing.

    "You know we have no choice... cleanse the planet" *Intense sad music plays* man this scene gave me the chills, the humans had to stop the infestation but had no time to warn the forerunners, and when they did it pissed the forerunners off because they saw it as an act of aggression towards them when it was really an act against the Flood. Tragic.

      The Humans were far more spiritually advanced than the Forerunners, it is one of the reason of why they were ready to sacrifice huge chunks of their galactic population for the greater good. This is why they were able to access so many Precursors artifacts and even made the Precursors themselves chose them as the rightful mantle holders. The Forerunners are the direct opposite of Ancient Humans. Hence why after many awakening events, the Librarian eventually realized that she and her species has made a great sin and yet to commit another one. That's why she finally achieved the understanding of our ancestors, to sacrifice everything for the greater good.

    The Didact is a great character.
    At first when you meet him in the game you're like, he's just this new badass villain who hates humans and wants to turn them into his army of robots. I didn't like him at first but once I watched these terminal videos and learned more about him there and in the books I realized how tragic his past really is and his motivations. I even have some sympathy for him now. He may look like just another bad guy to you but there's more to him than means the eye, that's what I love about him.
    I still like to see him in the game as much as I like to see him in this video and the books but seeing him in the game now makes me realize that I feel like 343i didn't portray him really well, as if they just wasted him. It's just like, they threw him in and then threw him out (by using what happened to him in the Halo Escalation edition that came out after Halo 4) I really wish the Didact got more screen time in the game, and that what happened in Escalation never happened. I know he's not dead, but if they bring him back as a robot it won't be the same, because he was the first real Forerunner we saw, a huge step for those who have interest in the lore.

      +Unknown Entity Yeah I agree. There's bound to be problems with Canon and pleasing existing fans. But 343 have done a good job of expanding the universe. I think they need to explore the time of the human, forerunner, flood time period. But they should make it really dark, like 18 dark. Explore the flood in a more "deadspace" way. A score more reflecting of the horror of what you are up against. Expand on what the flood actually is and what is really known about its origins; not just fan based theories. Again new cannon will be made, fans will cry but I reckon a trilogy of games like that will refresh the halo universe a hell of a lot, and in a good way. I really hope that happens.

    • @nihilityjoey
      @nihilityjoey Před 7 lety +6

      GNJWKang Silentium tells how the primordial tells of how the flood came about. When the librarian goes to the dwarf galaxy the only thing she finds is ancient forerunner wreckage, and a planet with an off shoot forerunner race. What I thought was strange, was that the librarian only found out who these forerunners were, and the history of why they believe they stayed in that galaxy, AFTER she was bitten. The way she describes how she got that knowledge from the bite was interesting. I would hazard a guess and say that maybe the precursors found some sort of organism in that galaxy and tried to create a weapon out of it or some means to augment their own bodies in some way and it destroyed them. The capsules the humans found in the milky way could have been scientific in nature carrying specimens and the already infected precursor. What the primordial told the didact could have been a lie, along with telling him that the humans once held a cure. It could have been setting two species that were possibly smart enough to destroy it against each other, in order to devide and conquer. This organism would have all the information about the forerunners, humanity and the milky way it would have needed from infecting a precursor. The primordial could have been a flood trojan horse. Just my theory though.

      They tried but since ancient humans were wiping out the flood and all its traces the forerunners thought they were lying. The humans were very efficient and complete in their hunt of the flood. It was only after they had killed billions of forerunners they realized but by then it was too late to stop the war, the forerunners are very proud and it is their failing.

    • @eightball6219
      @eightball6219 Před 7 lety +8

    • @GNJWKang
      @GNJWKang Před 7 lety +32

      I assume they did as much. They talk about how the forerunners kept an eye on humans long before the war and how humans chose to expand along the galactic arm outwards and mainly left forerunner space alone but the forerunners still didnt like the humans and their quick expansion and population growth. I imagine there was some economic and political troubles between the two leading up to it and they were just looking for a reason to go to war. The pride of the forerunners and their need to hold on to the self claimed mantle is a big theme in the saga. It makes sense they would hate any race that would advance to a point where they could be a remote threat to the empire.
      The forerunner empire was vast in comparison and I think they just didn't like the idea of having to share anything even though space is massive. Even the librarian was all for killing humans at first until she realized the mistake.
      The ur-didact even though he hated the race didn't really want to truly wipe them out(hence being persuaded by the life shaper to not kill them all and also the mantle). What he did with the composer is explained in silentium but I don't believe he would have composed all the humans if the events in silentium didn't change him.
      The forerunner saga books doesn't make him out to be as big as a dick as the game does, but his dickishness in halo 4 is also explained in the last acts of silentium.

And they knew the Flood was actually the Precursors who could easily just return from outside the galaxy. There was a 1000 year gap between when they first fought the Flood (Forerunner-Human War) and when they returned (Forerunner-Flood War). So she decide to keep them in stasis to study them, before the inevitable return from beyond the Galaxy.

      @WarGrowlmon18 Před 4 lety

      That sucks. It really does because the books in particular expand upon the lore of the games and are used as source material in SO MANY ways. The Forerunner Saga expands upon the story of the Didact, the Librarian and 343 Guilty Spark who survived Halo 3 and is still out there. Halo: First Strike covers the EPIC story between Halos 1 and 2, featuring the Master Chief's EPIC journey home from Halo. Contact Harvest, Silent Storm and Oblivion take place in the early war time with the first two heavily featuring Sergeant Johnson. He's the main character of Contact Harvest which shows the first contact with the Covenant and how the war began. The Arbiter is a main character in The Cole Protocol as is Captain Keyes. The Kilo 5 trilogy (which I haven't fully read myself) partially covers the story of how Jul 'Mdama became the leader of his own Covenant. It also introduces the Infinity and features Admiral Osman, the woman who ordered Halsey's execution in Spartan Ops. Halo: Renegades features 343 Guilty Spark (who survived Halo 3) working with the crew of the salvage ship Ace of Spades in 2557 as they try to find the Spirit of Fire (the captain is the daughter of John Forge from Halo Wars) and Spark tries to make contact with the Librarian for his own purposes, eventually succeeding through another AI like the one on Requiem in Halo 4 and Spartan Ops, albeit on Earth this time.
