Larry King doesn't actually listen does he? If Peter Capaldi had said "I murdered JFK" then Larry King would just ask the next question off his script

Peter is such an amazing person. I'm so glad he's our Doctor. He's so well spoken too; you can just sense so much compassion and grattitude when he talks.
King, though, holy moly. Always thought he was a terrible interviewer when he had his CNN show and I see he hasn't gotten any better. "The show's never been bigger in America" "Tell us about Doctor Who because we don't know it here in America". "The show's been on for over 50 years" "There's been different writers?" "Are you Scottish?" Come on Larry!

I love Peter so much. I was definitely excited, and even a bit impatient to watch the 11th Doctor regenerate so I could finally see Peter, but I never thought I'd love 12 as much as I do. He has surpassed Chris' performance in Series 1 making him the definitive Doctor of the revival series until the end of time (in my heart at least). That said, I also agree Larry did an abysmal job interviewing him. It was more of an interrogation, and his obvious lack of research is beyond atrocious.

This is SUCH A HARD interview to sit through, King is grumpy, senile, and outta touch now...don't get me wrong, I used to love him, but this interview proves he should back out. Peter Capaldi is so uncomfortable and on his heels and he shouldn't be, he's there for doctor who, not as a member of parliament.

  • @ChancellorJohnsonActor

I always thought that Larry should just stick to interviewing politicians, because that way, the entire show is boring, rather than the interviewee being the most exciting thing about the show and you force yourself to stick around based solely on who is being interviewed. Sadly, it seems Peter has gotten the "Collins treatment" as I've called it. King did the exact same type of interview to Misha Collins way back when. Basically, he was rude and harsh on the sci-fi and fantasy drama, as well as the fandom, and occasionally the actor himself. He doesn't do near enough research to be excusable. Peter and Misha are both great personalities that are very beloved, and King simply doesn't give a crap because it's "not important" to him. Peter got so excited at points where he just wanted to talk about the show, because he is still a passionate fan of it. And King just shoots him down and moves on to the next poorly-executed question. There are just such wasted opportunities to listen to Peter essentially fanboy over certain things and give explanations of things we want to hear, all because King is just bad at interviewing. Peter deserves much better than King when it comes to interviews.

I adore Doctor Who and Peter is really brilliant in the roll. He showed a lot of grace during Larry's pretty awful interviewing skills. There were some good questions thrown in by fans, but I'm disappointed that Mr. King didn't do his homework about what Doctor Who is really about or very much about Perter Capaldi, either He didn't do either one justice.

So much respect for Peter not taking the opportunity to pontificate on his personal politics (beyond his support of the BBC). Also, an excellent comparison to Star Trek. Star Trek frequently dealt with societal issues, but Doctor Who looks at it from the individual's point of view.

also, i don't think larry king actually listened here. like, he has some acknowledgement toward people with prestige in Hollywood, but he treated Peter as if he were some British nobody - as if he were any better! look at larry king, what is he? okay, to be fair though he was born in 1933.... he may not look it for the dyed hair, so I judged him unfairly perhaps. I don't think an 82 year old (at the time of the interview) has to know every actor.

A better title for this program would be "Larry King, NO!" As usual, Larry has clearly done no research whatsoever. He actually prides himself on not doing homework because he believes it makes for a better chat. His towering ego doesn't allow him to see what the rest of us see: an out of touch, smug old geezer conducting a second-rate interview. The Doctor can indeed act; you'd never guess he'd just as soon belt Larry in the mouth and go home.

I haven't seen much of Larry King, so I don't know if he's usually like this..but he does manage to make the initial part of the interview- especially the parts where they talk about the show- really awkward. However, once they begin chatting about Craig, the BBC and other stuff, you can see him warming up to Peter. I mean Peter is just such a charming personality anyway. He's so adorable when he talks about his wife and his process of acting by drawing and connecting to images. I think by the end Peter does manage to command respect and attention from Larry King.

Fantastic interview by Capaldi I definitely agree about Star Trek not being as intimate and substanceful as Doctor Who. I'm really not a big fan of Star Trek to be honest. But yeah King showing that good old 'Murican ignorance with that fucking "are you Scottish?" question. Are you serious Larry? Really? It shows two things, one, he's lazy and doesn't research his guests, you only have to Wiki Peter to see that he's Glaswegian. Two, Americans have no ability to distinguish different British accents. Also, the reason most older Americans don't talk about British politics is most likely because they watch a lot of Fox News, CNN and "old media" which only ever discusses.........American politics.

I know Larry is old but man, he doesn't look well at all.

I bet he cringed internally, every time King called him "Doctor Who"

A lot of comments on how bad Larry was but he wasn't THAT bad. He's a bit ignorant but the interview wasn't horrendous.

  • @myautobiographyafanfic1413

There was no controversy over Missy, and there wouldn't have been controversy over the female Doctor had it happened in place of Smith or Capaldi's tenure. In fact it was the writing that came with Capaldi that turned me off the show. I love Capaldi.

+Peregrine Note: when dealing with the media, Peter (and many others associated with the show past and present) use the "Doctor Who" moniker as it is just easier, especially for those unfamiliar with the show.

Ugh, Larry King did a terrible job at the interview. He is very unprepared and by his tone it seems like he doesn't give a shit but has to read some questions from list to sit the interview through and collect his paycheck. When it comes to this you should just retire!

Larry King is such a lazy interviewer.
    Time to retire.
