With this newfound OMG theme, and the Grimace thing, there's magic in the air at Citifield. Believe me, I wrote this team off back in May, and wanted to trade everyone. They came back from 11 games under, and got to .500 in under a month's time. The team earned a shot at it this year, and Stearns would be foolish to trade big pieces away now. The whole lineups clicking, and if you remove 1 piece, they'll be back to the same ol Mets again. McNeil is the only one I can see them moving for bullpen help. Jeff isn't hitting, but he's still one of their best defensive players.
You only trade JD if it’s for an offer you can’t refuse. Most likely no team is gonna do that because he’s 36 so you keep him and ride it out

JD Martinez is the kind of player a team on the cusp of playoff contention brings in at the deadline. Contrary to some opinions here, trading him is not going to bring back more than a mid-level contract at best. He is an aging expiring contract and as well as he has played here, on paper he does not have much value in return. If the next 3 weeks exposes this team and they struggle, they cut bait, but what he brings will help keep fannies in Steve Cohen's team and that is what matters in September.
In the playoffs, you can move Butto, Megill, and Peterson to the bullpen. You go with Severino, Senga, Manaea, and Quintana as your starters. The bullpen looks a lot better with those 3 guys to go along with Garrett, Hauser, Ottavino, Diaz etc.

Just think of the DH fiasco the Mets have gone through for years. Bring back JD Davis instead of Martinez? The worst position on the Mets until this year was DH. We don't have one anywhere.

Unless there is some kind of disagreement on JD's contract for next season they can't get past, why wouldn't they resign him?
Clearly he is more then an DH for this team having a positive impact since joining the team, with things like offers great batting strategies, has great knowledge of the game, doesn't have to be on the field with his aging bones playing defense and hits for power and is clutch; JD is also a natural leader to make things happen too. He has helped Lindor settle into a leadership roll the right way, he also has lifted Nimmo and Alonso to be better leaders of the team and improved hitters; JDs professionalism has impacted every player on that team in some positive way, including our younger players too. IMO he is the best signing preseason we have had since Max as he had a great impact on the guys too.
I want JD back! Bader and Menaea too. These are guys that are gelling really well with our players that remained starting this season and they are guys that love the game, come up big in big moments and a great guys/players.
