Huge Abandoned 1940's Luxury Retirement Home

  • Come with me as we go back in time into the 1940s in this beautifully abandoned nursing home. The architecture is top notch and the memories are in the walls. This center was first a psychiatric ward and when the patients got old they kept them there which started the transformation of a luxury senior living center. If you enjoyed the video tour a THUMBS UP would be much appreciated and SUBSCRIBE if you enjoyed and would like to see more of my work :) and more importantly, have a good day !

Given the style, i think this place started life as a wealthy family's home rather than an institution...

Grandma Kay & Kes’s Life Most nursing homes allow their residents to bring furniture from their home to use in the facility, which is probably why the furniture in some of the rooms look older than others.

That place was a palace for a nursing home. Today, you typically walk into a nice lobby and then find the individual rooms are small and tacky with cheap motel looking furniture. That bathroom was fabulous. I have noticed in shooting abandoned structures, if you want your building to last, use stone construction. Great video, loved the attention to detail!

Wow!! Remnants of elegance & class, throughout this place. The one room with its own balcony, Love it!!
But the room that stood out the most, was the very last room. The chair right up close to the bed, the 2 plates, the bible. Haunting to me. Super cool video.

Hello Mate. Nice video. if i can just say this from a professional point of view. In these sorts of buildings you need to keep the mask on as much as possible. That paint flake stuff could be bad shit and also you really should be wearing safety boots and a paper suit that can be thrown away after. It only takes one spec on your clothes and you might carry it home to your gf or mom etc. DONT RISK IT DITCH IT : ). Great vid stay safe

lead paint on this house is a strong possibility. Asbestos is so hard to see sometimes its hard to believe they used to cut it by hand with no mask of anything. In england the think MDF wood will be the next big killer, i have cut loads of that stuff without a mask....... im a silly boy

This is freaking me out right now because I know one of the people in one of the few pictures you showed! She was the daughter of a neighbor of mine and used to babysit me when I was a kid. I am very close with the family and still see them! I know that she's played the piano in nursing homes for years. I can send her the video and have her comment on the history, ensuring she doesn't disclose any information regarding the location.
I'm fairly certain this was built in the 1920's since it has all the hallmarks of that decade, especially the gothic style, which was very en vogue during that time. It's a gorgeous building. They need to turn it into a luxury hotel!

Absolutely amazing, I love the longer shots outside the window.. it helps to give a moment of pause for us to realise that people stood, in days gone by, in that spot once, enjoyed a beautiful view, sounds of birds. So sad. However they lived comfortably. We can hear you with the mask on. Keep it on. Be safe. Cheers

New sub! Good videos! When I was married, we bought and renovated an old house from my grandmother that she had rented out. The house had actually been transported from one small city to another, which was interesting, why not just rebuild, it was so tiny. We knew that the kitchen and bedroom was added on. When it was taken down to its guts, we were surprised by what we found...the old exterior and window frames underneath the falls at the juncture of the addition, hay and horse hair for insulation, old accountant ledgers and love letters from the 1940s. The smitten girl was saying she saw her darling on his horse and couldn’t wait until they saw each other again. It was pretty cool. I loved that house!😊

The architect of this building is phenomenal! Hard to believe such artistry has been abandoned to built a new place to meet standards and regulations for Nursing Homes. You would think it would be a historical site supported by the community and used as a spa or retreat. Was it ever placed on the market? The upkeep would be outrageously expensive. Not sure if it became compromised during the building of the new facility. Such a shame there are no grants for architectural splendor to preserve this art.
On another note, so many abandoned spaces which could offer housing for those who need shelter and to get back on their feet . Never understood why we do not recycle property instead of tearing down our environment and not recycling and preserving.

Another nice job, guys! I have always thought, I'd take any pictures that I found in abandoned places, to remember the people abandoned, and forgotten, and pay homage to them. A lot of that furniture would be worth some money. The paintings, not, but were beutiful, and there was a tray that fit inside the trunk, that was upside down on the floor that you missed. I have 6 of these trunks in my home, I love them, and, yes, they are worth money.
