I think Hazel isn't really all that fake, she'd just petty and jealous. So is Harper. They're not really creative, and kinda closed minded so they only see one possible solution for each situation.

I feel like the difference was, Harper's move towards Hazel resulted in people realizing just what kind of person Harper could be so it ended up reflecting poorly on Harper and resulting in her getting snubbed pretty hard. In this case what Hazel is doing to Harper is also hurtful but it seems like she only has issues with Harper & displays the "fake" persona to Harper alone. Not defending her actions and at the end of the day, I agree that Hazel is probably trying to ruin Harper. But I'm wondering if your sympathy stems from the fact that what Harper did to Hazel backfired and Harper was basically punished for it but we still see Hazel essentially, "not letting it go" and coming for her pound of flesh.
Or maybe you just really don't like Hazel. Which is also fine. To each their own :)
