    I just wanted to thank you for all the lens tests you have done. I am a frequent watcher and whenever I am interested in a lens, I search if you have covered it first. I like that you don't ramble as much and that I can quickly jump to the quality tests if I am in a hurry. Also your tests are consistent and I can compare lenses that you covered years ago to recent ones without a problem. Keep it up!

    Sony really giving Fuji something to think about with these new APS-C lenses

    • @Eikenhorst
      @Eikenhorst Před rokem +1

      Indeed, if you compare this to Fuji's 10-24mm offering, it is hard to see why you would prefer that one over this. With the a6700 even the Sony body isn't as bad as it used to be although the 40mp fuji is nice.

    • @anonymousl5150

      @@Eikenhorst Fuji is bad at making ultrawides and ultrazooms. And Sony now stopped being delusional about gimping their apsc lines, imo they are leading the way in apsc right now with a6700 and all the high quality lenses (along with 3rd party).

    I have included the new Sony 15mm 1.4 G and FE 24mm 2.8 G on my wish list for future reviews.
    And it's very useful to have a direct comparison between FF and APS-C for FF lenses, since some FF primes could also be used with smaller sensors.

    Hi Chris, do you also have a video about how you test a lens for sharpness especially? I mean a video showing you how you’re testing a lens on a tripod and at what distance with what focal lengths you are focusing on your chart you are always using? Very curious about that exact procedure. In your video about the canon Rf 15-35 you seem to get better results than my copy. Wondering if you are using different distances between camera chart. Would be very nice explaining us how you work! Thanks in advance for such a video, couldn’t find one on your channel so far. Greetings, Erik

    I just bought this brand new on eBay for $250! I will use it on my A7IV for travel, along with the other APS-C lens, a 70-350mm G, which I own and find amazing for travel. The image quality, even on the APS-C image size from the A7IV, is terrific, and this lens seems, from your review, to be the same. The two should make an excellent pair. I matched the quality of the effective 525mm from the 70-350mm G against my Sony 200-600mm G lens, and despite 11MB vs 33 MB at 5K on my Apple Display, the wee, light lens seems sharper even at the long end, and 525mm vs 600mm seems very close. It blew my mind.

    I must be in the small camp that would willingly give up OSS for the option to have the lightest and smallest lens possible.
    In any case, for landscape photographers this is fantastic. Usually shooting f/8 anyways, weather sealing and internal zoom is a nice feature over the old 10-18mm, and that 20mm at the long end is an actually pretty nice focal length on APS-C. Small detail I liked when I handled one at an event was that is has an actual zoom ring and the rocker on the side.
    Image quality here looks better than my old 10-18 f/4, but not as nice as my full frame lenses. That’s probably to be expected- comparing this to either the 20mm f/1.8 or the 16-35 GM is unfair, but it’s also considerably more portable.
    Really only complaint was that the focus and zoom rings are really close, probably not avoidable with the compact length.

      @tobyr8555 Před rokem

      I have the Fuji 10-24mm v1, and am not that happy with it. It’s soft at the long end, and corners seem average. Also, it’s basically FF size / weight. This is a slightly shorter range, but less than half the weight and way smaller. Fuji need to up their game to play to the APS-C advantages of smaller size / weight

  • @tomapaunovic
    @tomapaunovic Před 2 lety +1

    This is one of the lenses which makes me feel a bit bad for not shooting Sony APS-C and IMHO it plays along with APS-C strengths very well. It's really small and light, image quality is excellent and the price is very competitive, especially when compared with its predecessor and similar offering for Sony and other systems. Sure there are some compromises, like distortion (which is very well corrected) and lack of image stabilization (which is less of an issue for wide-angle lenses) but there are no compromises in core areas of size/weight/image quality/price. I would be more than happy if something equivalent gets released for FF (like 15-30 F5.6) but I doubt that will ever happen.

    I've been waiting forever for an update on the 10-18mm. Sadly f/4 without stabilisation makes it comparative to third party stuff about the same size for shooters with more pocketable bodies without IBIS. Just make us a quality wide with native optical stabilisation already, update the 10-18 or make a wide prime with higher image quality, please Sony.

    • @sharifsalem
      @sharifsalem Před 2 lety

    The lack of OSS is annoying with a lens of f4 considering the fact that the majority of APS-C-Users don't own bodies with inbuilt image stabilisation. A total fail as also is 16-55 2,8 to this regard. A new flagship APS-C-Camera which will arrive soon won't solve this as it will continue that most APS-C don't own stabilized bodies. No real advancement to the 10-18 f4 regarding lack of OSS and image quality
