    Most people don’t want to remove fluids because “then what?”. What I like about your video is how it’s real to what people will do.

    Thank you for this video. The way you showed which things you disconnected so that you could get the alternator out was super helpful. I haven't done something like this in a couple of decades, and never on a minivan, which are notoriously cramped. Normally I would have taken it to a mechanic, but with the Labor day holiday and all, I didn't think I would be able to find a mechanic that wasn't already slammed. Given the number of kids we have, we really needed the minivan to work. The timing on this repair wasn't great, but it could have been worse. I did the repair yesterday, but took a break when the temp got to 103. If I had waited for today, it would have been worse with an expected high of 112. You have sent good into the world, and I pray it comes back to you many times over. Thank you.

    Just did this. The only challenge I had was sliding the sleeve out on the lower mounting bracket (19:57). I tried to tap it like you did but there was too much corrosion. I was able to move it with a 12 mm socket, the lower mounting bolt, a 14mm wrench. and a 40 mm long fine thread bolt. I threaded the 40 mm bolt into the threaded portion of the bracket, then slid the lower mounting bolt into the front of the bracket to hold the 12mm socket in place. I then used the wrench to unscrew the 40 mm bolt until it pushed the 12mm socket which in turn pushed the sleeve out.

    Thank you so much for the video. I referenced your video throughout the process as I was replacing my Odyssey. All parts of the video are on point. What I returned to consistently was how the heck I was going to get the new alternator in with limited space. I 💯 recommend this video. Keep up the excellent tutorial. Much appreciated and subscribe

    Thanks again for making this video. Charging system light came on two days ago in my 2011 Honda Odyssey w/170k miles (and quick alternator test showed failure). Used this video + reman alternator from nearby parts store and back up and running next day. To get radio working again all I had to do is hold down power button to clear code.

    Great job! Doing this replacement today on our 2015 and appreciate your attention to detail in the video! Loved the "nightmare" comment @ 7:50 about the battery terminal - laughed pretty hard at that! 😂

    Just did this I tried holding the tensioner and pulling the alternator through could not juggle both 😅 I ended up removing the tensioner and sitting it aside and pulled it straight out. Thanks for the video

    Only thing worse than the job is having to record it. I appreciate the video. If I try this I will definitly use my halogen sniffer on all the AC connections before and after-it looks like they get knocked around a little. What are your thoughts on breaking-in the alternator? I saw an alternator company's website that recommeded running it 10 min to set the brushes and condition the diodes , then cool off 15. Then run another 15 minutes with the heater fan on high, then cool down 15, and repeat the second step 3 or 4 times.

    Hi.It seems to me that in my case the VTEC solenoid is leaking oil. If I fix the gasket, the alternator will still work or how do I wash the oil?

    I have a Cadillac DTS 2006. Just had a pulley replaced and came to pick the car up. It started sheet the repair, but now it has power and won't crank. I jumped the starter relay and it cranked but won't run. We've checked every fuse with no luck. Also there is no theft lock light showing. OBD2 sensor will not read either which is a new symptom. Can you help me get pointed in the right direction

    What happens if i overtightened the 14 mm under bolt on the alternator when i put the new alternator back in? It seemed to pop..... it's still in there but it seems loosened.

    • @danmoon8886
      @danmoon8886 Před rokem

      The larger bolt pulls on a part I will call the "clamping sleeve". There may be popping sounds as the sleeve moves through it's (tight fitting) hole in the alternator body ear. The sleeve ultimately comes to rest against the engine block and the alternator is clamped into place securely.

      Check your connection at the ac compressor. You probably didn't connect them or they got pulled out of the connector
