If this list was around when I was a kid, I probably would have known not to go to my so-called friends' apartment. Despite differences in sentences, what you mention is nothing close to justice, nor is justice the intention. It's a system, a system of control and profit like most of the others. School is not synonym of education, just like the judicial system is never a synonym of justice.

As someone who was molested by too many people to count throughout my childhood, I believe that, like with any other crime or mental illness, there are varying different types of sex offenders. There are offenders who are sociopathic/psychopathic and keep repeating their crimes without any thought of the victim, then you have the offenders who hate themselves for what they did and wish to rehabilitate themselves and change. I don't think that we should cast a broad net over every single person in any group, regardless of what they may have done. If we focused more on rehabilitation than punishment, we wouldn't push so many people with these urges to the fringes of society, where they can give up fighting it and act on those urges. If we could look at the sex offender problem with nuance like we can with pretty much every other mental illness and crime out there, then I may have been sparred from being victimized throughout my whole fucking childhood. So many people don't understand that blindly wanting to punish and kill these people does nothing but keep it in the dark. I want to figure out why these people exist, to get them the help they need before they offend, and put a stop to it while it's only just a series of fantasies in their head. I'm even for rehabilitating those who have offended, because I'd prefer to live in a less hateful and unforgiving world where narrow-minded violence is the first option when dealt with a tough problem.

Child sex offenders have some strict conditions about where and when they can go to public places, but none of these restrictions apply to churches. It seems professions with access to children would be more full of such people. Teachers, priests, sports coaches, doctors etc. Since it gives them easier access to children. It's really sad and it's sick where society is going in making this stuff more acceptable and normal especially with preteen children. If it were up to me they'd be castrated and put in prison for life. Unfortunately I think the premise behind giving them light sentences is to discourage them from killing their victims. If you get, say, life in prison for sexual assault and also for murder, they may just murder their victims to get rid of witnesses to have a better chance of avoiding life in prison.

If you're a sex offender, you deserve to feel unsafe. You get to feel an ounce of the mental distress you made those kids feel. I genuinely appreciate what the teacher did and hope to god more people take these people out since the legal system wont and lets them continue to roam free, having normal lives while their victims suffer having to know their rapist is out there harming others.
The issue with what the other sex offenders were saying about being in danger was the fact that they were acting like everyone on the list was at risk when the person who was targeted was not targeted due to their status of being a sexual offender, but because he was a child predator... Yet not all sexual offenders are child predators so unless that applied to them then it really shouldn't be something they're making a big deal of where if they are fuck what they think since it's their damn fault for violating children like that.

In some situations people have ended up on the list as they were charged due to being in a relationship with a minor when they were not a minor because they had turned 18 while they were in a relationship with someone who they started dating before they had turned 18 due to the parent of their partner reporting them because they had been against the relationship from day 1 because they were overprotective of their child. While this situation is uncommon and is something that doesn't really happen these days as such scenarios are taken into consideration I do know it has happened in the past where I do not know if "offenders" on the list because of such situation were removed later on. So to clarify on my original comment only those who actually violated children should feel ashamed where anyone who is on the list for a stupid reason like that should have their status reassessed to figure out if they really should be kept on the list or not. I would also agree that public urination really shouldn't be something that ends up being something that lands someone on a sexual offenders list as where I live people literally piss in the street regularly as well as walk naked around the city if they want where there is even an outdoor urinal drain in a major park within the city that is literally right up the hill from a children's playground. It's definitely important to consider all the facts of a situation before making such a drastic decision to label someone as a sexual offender where it will follow them for life and group them in with a set of people that have done truly horrible things. At the minimum there should be a sort of multi-tiered list where depending how severe the offense it changes which tier of the list they are on where each would have different requirements on what they would need agree to whether that is to be on a private list that law enforcement and background checks can see, that is a public list that anyone can see, that requires them to go around the neighborhood they live in and inform everyone they are on the list including if a new resident moves in, and maybe even having a sign on their property that states that a "sexual offender resides here" reserved for child predators to make sure everyone knows that someone with such a label on their property should not have children on their property where if anyone sees children or any sign of children on their property they should be reported to the police.

I think the Sex Offender Registry should be changed. Victomless offenders, for crimes like public urination (when they weren't intentionally flashing anyone, or were drunk), or maybe a couple did public sex because they believed noone could see them (also within reason) could also end up on that list, and it really dilutes the real threats within that list.

Happened to me but it was the teachers and our school counselor who turned a blind eye. Really fucked me up. Though, I've spent years dealing with it all now, I don't think I will ever trust people again. That was damaged and repeatedly reinforced. I stay a lway from people mostly but life has become liveable which is all you can hope for sometimes. I am glad the dude took care of the problem.
