If there's an expat community here in Southern Leyte, I'm unaware of it and not looking for it. Eleven months in country and doing great with just the Mrs. and the family.

    Hi Steve. Good evening. I’m just eating my dinner now after attending English Catholic Mass here in Japan and grocery shopping. It’s perfectly normal to desire alone time with your girlfriend or just hang out with 1-2 friends when in the mood to socialize. I’m like you, I tend to prefer doing something social with 1 person or perhaps 2 people maximum at once. Sure, sometimes larger groups can be fun occasionally. I think it’s important for people to realize we are all individuals and will be more compatible with some people than others. Becoming jealous can be a natural feeling we all may experience now and then, but I make an effort to avoid such feelings since it is not productive. I do often hear how ultra jealous Filipinas can get. I could be wrong, but I suspect if they were more independent financially, they wouldn’t get jealous nearly as much. Just a hunch. Having said this, I do believe men and women returning to traditional roles and values is something we will all benefit from in many ways.

    Most fellow expats I run into while out and about seem to be lost in their own world. Avoiding eye contact, not returning a hello, being aloof and standoffish. Not a problem for me, as I have found Filipinos to be friendlier than fellow expats. I think they are running from something in their past, but that is just my opinion, and we all know what opinions are like. I live in a nice gated subdivision in the suburbs of Cebu City. I am pretty sure that I am the only expat there. I don't avoid people, but don't ask me for help after avoiding me. Peace. Great channel

  • @ejtaylor73
    @ejtaylor73 Před 19 dny +4

    It's not your job to be everyone's tour guide, keep them entertained, or care if you hurt their feelings because they were excluded. It's EXHAUSTING trying to think about/include others and some where along the way you lose yourself and stop living for YOU. Those whiny ADULTS can take their hurt feelings and go sit in the corner and cry by themselves.
    Those that need to bring drama to their channels do it because they know they have nothing original or useful to offer and need those clicks&views to make themselves feel more important, and drama gets that. They take the lazy way out and try to put others down so they can feel someone else has it worse off than they do, so their miserable life doesn't look so bad, instead of putting in time and effort to build themselves up.
    I agree with the "Don't put a camera in people's face." When you make a "donation" video, then you haven't donated anything, you just exchanged goods/services for your video for notoriety/monetary gain. I get wanting to get the reactions and happiness of those people getting some help, but videoing it says it was for selfish reasons, not because you genuinely wanted to help. Just like those walking tour videos (Poverty p*rn), walking through slums, videoing people and their struggles to survive, just so you can upload it to CZcams and make money. How much of that money are you giving back to those people you are taking advantage of in your video?

    It's a battle of personalities, some people will get bent, and others are not as concerned as much. I found that it's like being in alcoholics anonymous, and they appoint you as a sponsor to kind of play it forward. It's kind of a way to delegate responsibility to others and allow yourself to have some space. Just like you did with Rich, and that allows them to be a part of the program, and in the process, they can play it forward to others . I know it's difficult to trust other people and pass the torch, but imitation is one of the greatest honors one can have, and having more people doing what you are doing will reach out to more people.

    Good content Steve. I am more a visitor than a resident of the Philippines right now, even though I have a yellow card. Most of my acquaintances and friends when I am in the Philippines are my wife's family and friends. My efforts are always to preserve peace with them. And all it has taken for me to accomplish that peace in these last 15 years is a reasonable effort. They try hard and I try hard and it seems to work out. Yet....there are things on both sides that the other side just quite can't understand. But we just have to accept we can't understand it all. Not understanding them is not the same as not liking them, or hatred or contempt. Expats are an enigma to me. I don't spend a lot of time with them unless I see a potential friendship. I am selective in other words.

    I agree, just seek the Pinay for you and micro manage your social circle. People on the low can envy you or try to put you down as a form of projecting. Not realizing your life isn't their life. Also, I've run across a lot of 'expat-weird' since I've been here. Liars, sneaky cheating unhappy no matter what they have weirdos. Also, we have expats that put down Filipinas based on how a Filipino male would rate them. When infact, she at her worse is probably better than the best he ever had back in the West.
    Too many (not all) expats be low-key toxic, envious, illogical, and miserable.
    The Pinays here have all treated me extremely well, but I don't judge them based off external none relevant factors✌🏾

  • @Amen.22
    @Amen.22 Před 20 dny +3

    When someone gives money or things or helps others in need, Matthew 6:3, don’t let your left hand know what your right hand is doing. However, Matthew 5:14-16 says let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify God. The Bible says, to let others see your good deeds, then in the next chapter it says, don’t let anyone see your good deeds, not even your other hand. The difference is, are you doing it to bring praise to yourself, or are you doing it to bring praise to God? All Glory belongs to God, Ephesians 3:20-21. Therefore, whatever you do, whether in word deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him, Colossians 3:17.

When you become a 'public figure' you open yourself to 'praise' or 'criticism'. Most bloggers ( no matter where they live ) are amateurs with too much time on their hands. They are hiding behind their computer screens or their opinions. My thinking is that if you can't say something positive...; don't say anything at all. There’s other things to consider, like your age. You could put money in a Philippine bank, or you could do something like buy a condo. This channel has some videos on the subject.
