I mean, the whole thing *is* scripted with minimal ad libs, so the producer knew what details were necessary to animate in advance.
I’ve honestly loved ALL of the special programs, but they’re a lot easier to produce than people think. For better or for worse, the chibis are effectively stripped down Live2D models that that don’t need to motion track an actor, because the animation loops are already created. And, due to the script, the time they get shown is already mapped and timed out.
Albedo’s bark was a scripted event because we can see Aether’s reaction and Gorou’s ear twitch to it. What probably happened was that Khoi or a different writer came up with the bit, like I’d imagine something like during the writing meeting, the writers could be asking the VA “We need a candid dialogue for this section”, and Khoi said “I can bark, and then Zach and Cory can react to it”, so the animators pieces together the emotions they would need for that and strung that little event into the final video for the 3 to voice over later on. I don’t have all the details, and I’m not sure the extent that the VAs are involved in the writing, but two things are true. They ARE given opportunities to ad lib and tell jokes, but the timing for that IS locked in place so that the video-editors can show the chibis laughing. The ad libs aren’t written word-for-word in the script, but they ARE still scripted
That might not be completely related but it’s something to keep note of. The animators who make the chibis are told “make happy Gorou, sad Gorou, angry Gorou, excited Gorou, etc etc” and if they have animal features they just utilize them as appropriate ig, give the animations to the video editors and they go from there.
@@utopes but they don't make the video before recording the audio, that way it wouldn't sync and it wouldn't work in case they said anything different than the script. They record the audio and _then_ make the animation
@@sopapopp I’m talking about the animation loops themselves. The mouth movements and the arm raises are already animated, and those assets are going to be used and reused because they’re universally applicable. They don’t need to reinvent the wheel for good reason. I agree that making the final product is a working process, (the “animation” you are mentioning is the “final product” for me.)
The writers do decide “make a joke here”, “say a quote there” in advance, and whenever a joke is made you HAVE to smile and make the eyes sparkle and whatnot, so the order of animation is effectively scripted out as well. The *final product*, on the other hand, does get made after the audio is recorded, because you’re right that the editors have to sync up the words and mouth movements. If I didn’t imply that, I should’ve 😅
(When I said “the timing is locked in place”, I meant relative timing, like making a comment about the golden wolflord being a cute spicy puppy snake. The start-and-stop of the animation does need to be refined from there to sync up.)
I like how Khoi is still that Khoi we all know from Among Us streams except there's no De fuQing auDecItY in this programm and it's just "spicy snake doggo"

Out of all the livestreams for Genshin Impact, the one with Khoi is by far my favorite one. He always makes weird comments that makes the stream entertaining.
