    That is the key - once you drive a Tesla, other cars just don't compare. I love my Model 3 -- so quick and efficient. And I "fill up" as needed in my garage for about 1/3 the cost of an ICE vehicle. Guys who say "never", haven't tried it.

    The hardest thing I had to get used to in my new 2024 Model 3 was the brakes. Having the car slow down automatically screwed with my ICE habits that have been ingrained in me over the past 30 years. The indicators on the steering wheel had no impact on me at all for some strange reason. Simply the best car I have ever driven and owned. Absolutely light years ahead of anything else on the market.

    I have 2023 pre-face lift model 3 and I love it. Do i have a bit fomo on the new one ? yea maybe a little :P But I suggest to get a used one with heatpump. Don't worry about battery, these new batteries will most likely outlast the car itself. You will get max 10-15% battery degradation in most cases and it stays around that for a very long time (the degradation curve will plateau). Specially if you get LFP battery (only rwd ones have it) these batteries are being used for years in taxi cars in China, and they can last more than 1 million miles! great video, thank you

    • @TheCarGuyOnline

      Yeah the batteries seem to be the least of the worries. When did they finally go to the heat pump in the 3, was it 2021? Seems like they are pretty reliable, or about like other reliable cars. For me, I just miss having a sports car and it would satisfy that nicely. The one big downside is insurance.

    I think one of the big differences about the new 3 is that it's supposed to be a lot quieter. The older one has a lot of wind noise at highway speeds from the front doors.
    Like it's enough that you keep thinking a window is pulled down slightly. I'd be tempted to figure out if the door changes could be retrofitted if you are mechanically inclined.
    But I'm with you on the used ones. Incredible bargain for how much car you get, and someone else ate the depreciation. Going to pick up a used 3 or Y before too long.

    • @TheCarGuyOnline
      @TheCarGuyOnline  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Yeah I didn't notice a drastic difference in noise, maybe my old ears aren't working as well as before but the difference between the two, for me, was not worth 20-30k. My main reason for buying one would be to have a fun car to drive around/punch occasionally, been a long time since I've had a sports car. I've still got teens on my insurance which sucks. I called around and got quotes, insurance, even on a used 2021 for me is around $190/mo. Not sure what Tesla insurance would be but I'm sure it's high cost due to teens on my policy. Sorta prevents me from pulling the trigger in the short term...

      @@TheCarGuyOnline Totally understand, we're probably around the same age and I have a tween. Planning on buying her a used Leaf when she's at driving age since they have limited capacity and aren't fast like a lot of EVs.
      I think I only noticed the wind noise at certain times during my last rental but it was pretty drastic when there. I have rented Model Ys multiple times and it didn't have wind noise that I can remember.
      But anyway, I'm with you. The used 3 is a great deal right now. I think I'll hold out a bit and pick up a used Y to compliment my GX460.
      Like you I've had some fast cars, used to do track days on sportbikes, etc. Also not a weird Elon fanboy, just a general automotive enthusiast. The 3 and Y just ruin you for other daily drivers. The passing power to use on remote two way roads is just unmatched among all of the other things.
      I'm still a bit mind blown that the 3 seems to have more driver space than my GX460.

  • @Boutthemvols
    @Boutthemvols Před 2 měsíci +1

    What's the life left in a used car? For an EV, you have to find out the expected cycle life of the battery. Then multiply that by the full-charge-miles the car is expected to get. Adjust the miles down for battery degradation over the life of the car. My 2015 Model S 85 calculates out for me as follows: 265 (full charge miles) x 0.75 (degradation of battery) x 1000(cycle life of Tesla 85kwh battery in 2015)= 198k mile expected life. Some people have had to replace their battery long before 200k miles. Others get 300k. Its varies a lot based on how you drive, charge, your climate, etc. But nobody should buy an EV without finding out its battery's expected cycle life, and calculating how much life it has left. A new 85kwh battery for my 2015 Model S would cost $21k. Who puts that kind of money in a 9 yr old car? The best battery you can get today is the LFP chemistry. My new Model 3 has a CATL battery (made in China) with expected cycle life of 2000 - 2500 cycles. So my new Model 3 should last twice as long (or longer) than my old Model S.

      Everyone talks about it being much quieter and better in the 24, but I didn't feel like it was drastic enough to justify spending so much more. The other guy I test drove with felt the same way, he thought he'd just save the $20-30k and buy used at that point. We drove the new 2024 with ~800 miles or so, then a 2018 with 27k miles, and a 2020 with 83k miles. They all felt very similar which is a good sign, power delivery felt identical as it should in all 3, handling felt very close. The 24 was maybe a tiny bit better ride and marginally quieter but I would really have to focus to tell. If you can find a 2021 M3 with the heat pump design at a good price that might be the way to go. If you don't live in extreme temps, the heat pump might not matter as much.
