Hello Max, I am extremely happy that Atlantis is releasing the old Aurora, Monogram, Revell, Comet and Renwal models that we old timers wish to build once again. I enjoy their Facebook where they show photos of the original moulds. This month, they have released the very famous and much missed PBY-5a Catalina by Monogram, the 1955 version!! Can't wait to buy it.

Actually I do have a Atlantis KIT. It is the hup-2 helicopter. I actually sort of helped with this kit. So the US navy used them. And I suggested to the company how about adding navy markings to the kit. Then I sent them a photo I took of the navy one on the uss Hornet Air craft carrier. Then I get the kit and I see they used the navy markings. I’m so happy to see this

I have built 16 of the Atlantis kits, no saucers or cars. Mostly their repros of old Aurora kits and the Navy ship kits. I had forgotten how bad the old Aurora 1/48 tank kits were til I built the Soviet Stalin III and M46 Patton tanks. The 1/320 USS Forrest Sherman destroyer is okay, though not up to modern standards. I just finished their 1/64 scale B-25C Mitchell bomber. I have a couple morw ships and a few aircraft in the build queue now.
When those Tom Daniel car kits come out, I'll try a couple.
True "Rivet Counters" will be put off by the reissued vintage kits with their detail and accuracy problems, but they can be fun builds, and bring back memories of childhood modeling.

Lance Revell I agree 100%. Every completed model does not have to pass the penlight and dental mirror test. The majority of modelers can never achieve the results featured in magazine articles or modeling websites. To me, if a model I build looks like a Yak-3 or P-26 it IS a Yak or Boeing. Our hobby should be fun rather than a frustrating attempt to equal the masters.

Just got the AH-56 Cheyenne kit. Old Aurora kit released this year. Fair detail with operating landing gear and rotors. Has a simple cockpit. With the information online, the kit can be greatly detailed including making the belly gun turret that is missing. The turret that they show is the gunner's optical sighting turret only. The kit is 1/72nd, gonna be a great winter project with all the photos downloaded.

I am building their B-25 old revell kit in 1/64 scale right now. For a 50 plus year old kit it is going together quite nicely. I believe that they must have some kind of a relationship with Hobby Lobby as a few of their kits can be found there for a very reasonable price. My thanks go out to them for reissuing these oil kits, they make for a fun relaxing weekend build, no rivet counting or detail measuring just build paint and relax. Thanks Max for all of your videos.

I managed to get at a hobby lobby a Mercury capsule and atlas booster that comes with the launch tower and pad. It was an old Revell kit from the early sixties. It's the "EVERYTHING IS GO" you can still get the original Revell release in the box for not much more than the new kit. And you can purchase new Atlantic kits of B-24 and I also believe a B-17 if I'm not wrong.

      @OlagGan Před 4 lety +1

@@johnbockelie3899 Actually before the era of CGI, this was common amongst most TV and movie crews. Due to the shocking budget restrictions the BBC design staff were forced to use ANYTHING to make a 3D model of space ships etc for use in long distance shots. In fact Mat Irvine the creator of special effects on many BBC Series said that he got the parts of models from anywhere. Car engine parts, light bulbs , bits of old circuitry, in fact even parts of old kit models were used to stretch the budget. In fact British special effects designers were actively sought out by film crews all over the world for making really good effects out of practically sod all. Of course the budget for the BBC has changed now. O could explain more but I don't want this to be more boring than it is and besides which I need to go to bed. I'm supposed to be working tomorrow and I was only supposed to be going to the toilet when I checked the notifications and saw this comment. AnywU I am now going off to bed.

Got the Atlantis 57 Chevy which is a re-pop of the old Revell kit (originally released in 63 and re-tooled in 73), it's an old favorite of mine as i built the Revell version aged 9 in 1980, the Atlantis kit is just like the Revell kit (i built a couple of the Revell Edd Roth 57's a few years ago), has it's faults but still great, makes a superb Gasser as it has separate inner fenders and rear seat, i'm building mine as a Gasser (will also do one box stock), with a resin blown 572 Big block motor and aftermarket Torque Thrust wheels. Great coverage of a company I had heard of but knew nothing about. I really wanted one of those 1/72 DC9 kits but found out it is the wrong version to make a C9 Nightingale. It looks like a -DC9 15, I need a - 30 to do a C9 as it has the longer wingspan and fuselage. Will have to use the Airfix kit and do it in 1/144 instead.
How about covering John Adams' Aeroclub models in a future episode? I know John from the model show circuit and he is a really nice guy but unfortunately I haven't seen him for a few years. The first Vacform kit I ever built was the Aeroclub 1/48 DH Chipmunk on his recommendation as a first vac kit. It was the first time I
had met him I was a teenager, was 17 but looked about 14, and he was busy selling at an airshow but he took the time to talk me through the techniques needed to build vac kits, probably spent a half hour talking with me. Top bloke. Oh and he was right, an ideal first vac kit.

Lake Freighter Minis (the paper ship models) is and has been very much alive on its own; Bob May just finished refining the design of his model of the Bob-Lo Island steamer Ste. Claire (one of those old-timey steamers that looks like a big floating birthday cake). Bob pretty much _is_ the company and a helluva nice guy. Until this COVID thing started screwing around, I'd see him at most Great Lakes author and trade show events. His site is lakefreighterminis(dot)com and lots of museums, souvenir shops and bookstores around the Great Lakes carry his paper kits, too. You can (and will again soon) go to the National Museum of the Great Lakes in Toledo, Ohio, buy a paper model of the James M. Schoonmaker (either as the Schoonmaker or in her Cliffs paint job as the Willis Boyer), and go outside and tour the real ship. He also has a few how-to-build videos on CZcams.

The Merit re-pops at 2:20 were not LeMans cars but Formula One cars around the first year of Formula One in 1950. Le Mans cars are sports cars with working headlights for the 24 hour race and in that era needed space for a passenger. All have wheels enclosed by mudguards. Caution needed when Max talks about anything outside American and drag cars.
Slot racers were glad when the Merit cars became available to convert to a racing early Formula One car.

Another great vid, Max! I didn't realise they have such a large, diverse line of kits. I recently picked up their re-pop of the old Revell Martin P6-M Seamaster, in the box-scale of 1:136. Just a quick, easy build of a cool-looking jet float plane. I plan on sanding down the rivets, as they would be considered large on a 1:48 scale kit, let alone 1:136! I have their repop of the Renwal Allison Prop-Jet engine. Another cool kit that should be a fun build. I understand that the kit originally came with an electric motor, to make it all functional. I wonder what I would need to build it that way? Thanks for the video, Max!

  • @andyrichardsvideovlogs8835

I have mixed feelings about Atlantis. They are re-popping some really cool kits which I would happily buy, but have no distribution to the UK. In fact, you can't even buy from Atlantis and get them shipped over. Bad move. Having said that my only Atlantis kit was bought online from a US vendor and shipped by them which is an expensive way of doing it. However, as I had been wanting that kit since 1961 nothing was going to get in my way on this one.
What is it? The re-popped Alison turbo-prop. Original tooling, original instructions, original box art and even plastic moulded in the original colours... Love it.

When I was a youngin (1970s) my cousin had that Invaders UFO and although I didn't know it was from a TV show I really liked that thing. 40 years later and I still want one. The last kit I built back in the early 2000s was the Polar Lights Jupiter 2. Man I took my time and did it right. I work in electronics so I built my light kit for it. Wow, interesting video. I thought Atlantis only made first two weird UFOs you featured, especially the triangular one that looks like it is straight from a board room desk. I say that it looks like one of those conference call speakers before everyone one went "Zooming" around.
Off on a tangerine again - the resin "German Flying Saucer". You referenced that it was designed by an Alfred Wong. I forgot from which video you did a few months ago, but you commented that you'd like to have the model of the flying portion of the UFO's SKYDIVER. I had responded that I had, had that exact model and I had given it to a friend who was a way better builder than I as he wanted to build the whole machine. And that when he had moved from one home to another he had given me that model as he had no room for it. That person was Alfred and he's lives up here in Toronto. Ontario. Small world.
He is a very excellent designer/model builder. He primarily builds aircraft in 48th scale and has a large resume of Star Wars and other tv/movie ships in that scale as well - built by himself and for sale by the likes of Interstellar Modeler, etc and sometimes himself.
Right now he is designing a 144th scale resin model of the Jupiter 2 from the latest version of "Lost in Space" for Fantastic Plastics. He posted photos of it last week on Facebook.

At 4:50, the Black Falcon: what scale is the model, please?
Also, could you pass word to CZcams, please? When I pause the video to read content that is difficult to see, black bands above and below prevent me from seeing round two-thirds. Nothing I have done has succeeded in obviating this.

I built a few of their flying saucers and Flash Gordon. I recently bought the Convair Shuttle. I'm considering buying The Phantom to see if I can convert it into Alex Toth's "Space Ghost." (As a sidebar, I've seen the kit, and the "VooDoo Witch Doctor" appears to be 1/16th scale; not 1/8th as with The Phantom. Building the kit 'stock' will require a "forced-perspective" display.)
    Thanks for posting this!
If anyone from Atlantis is reading this, PLEASE consider re-releasing the Revell Moon Ship that was sold with the Convair Shuttle as the "Space Pursuit" set when I was about nine. They also had the "Atomic Space Ship Solaris." I'd like a second crack at that one, too . . . .

@@modelermark172 (just a tidbit of useless information) The Revell XSL-01 is in the old sci-fi movie “The Crawling Hand”. You can see it just sitting on the desk of some top official in the movie. By the way, the movie isn’t that good, but worth a watch.

@@kennethkwilinski4899 Now that you mention it, I think the XSL-01 was used in several "B-Movie" Science Fictions, over the years. I think it also portrayed a Soviet spacecraft in the Disney "Men Into Space" series. I even think I saw it depicting moon landing scenes in a few magazine articles from the late 50's to early 60's.
