Investing is Greek to me; I genuinely don’t understand it. I fear your class would be more of the same.
There is a hard cut at 26:05 that makes it very hard to follow what's being talked about in the episode.
CAN YOU TEACH US HOW TO MAX DEBT AND LIVE LIKE KINGS
I think you should start getting 3 months of statements to get peoples spending averages. You can still go over their most recent month, but people always say, “this month was special” and if you had a 3 month average, you could call them on their BS.
This is what happens when you don’t move past your teen idea of what a cool boyfriend would be.

Yes he is going to have to make a diagram and have to pull it out on some people.
I feel like he thought interest was only applied to new purchases and not the overall balance? I haven't finished the video yet, but as of now that's how it seems lol
It’s so funny because technically, technically if you have extra money to cover your debt, and the money needed to cover the expenses you are putting on your card, then the cash back is a positive financial impact.
Problem is about spending habits and the fact that the balance is staying flat or growing. Then interest crushes you.
He failed math in first grade and never caught up again.
I don't understand how the dude making less than 20k a year is a big spender?! How do you not feel guilt over blowing your partners hard earned money when you're basically just a giant boat anchor holding them down?

“How am I going to be a man with no motorcycle?”
How are you a man making less than a part-time teenage worker?
Ah yes, the two genders: woman, and motorcycle.
Without a doubt, this year will be worse than the last. I lost a lot of money last year as a result of bad investment choices that I would not have made if I hadn't been so worried about my portfolio. I kept investing, but I couldn't determine whether to start paying for a house. In the end, I sold my positions, and the house needed more work than I had planned. I'm not sure how long I can keep going like this
We've all made mistakes at some point. You should consider financial planning
True. My portfolio was diversified across several markets with the help of a financial planner, and were able to achieve over a million in net profit among high dividend yield equities, ETFs, and bonds. It is vital that you have a variety of exposure, including in firms that are currently generating cash flows.

@CalebHammer I used to work for a major credit card company and you need to tell people (like this guy) that if you carry a balance and make a charge interest starts accruing IMMEDIATELY - you only get the interest free grace period if you have a zero balance and pay it off at the end of the month. So many people fail to understand this and it is all in the fine print of the T and Cs that no one reads.
Yes!!! This is what people completely fail to understand. Somehow they think the CCCs are in business to be their fairy god mother. 😅
!!!! I didn’t know this. luckily I never have kept a balance but damn
Thanks for explaining this! I was mentally saying "grace period!" in my head at Caleb! I forgot you get dinged if you don't have a balance. This should really be a pinned comment. (But even if interest accrued on the purchase AFTER a grace period, Caleb is still correct that carrying the balance and accruing interest is still < buying crap.)
And I think you have to go so many statement periods before they give it back to you once you lose it. If I remember right.
I did not know this. Good thing I've never used a credit card.

I’m shaking my head. I used to have these same type conversations with my now Ex husband. After many years of handling the money, except for a 1M house that was close to being paid off, no other consumer debt including three cars and substantial savings, his impulsiveness could stand it no more and his behavior turned to physical abuse with police and bail bondsmen becoming involved. He kept the house, bought me out and spent every $1 he could get his hands on. He is now deeply in debt with a $5K monthly mortgage. It took awhile to get stabilized, but I bought a small home with cash, paid my moving expenses, did some $$$ repairs on my home, working on getting my health repaired, invested the proceeds I received and planning a European vacation this Fall with the interest I’m earning on a high yield savings. I win. 🥰

Cash back only works if use it on stuff you buy in budget not etc bull 💩 😅😂
I realized why she doesn’t talk much, she knew he’d sink himself by talking lol
Love that Caleb is funnier than the comedian in this episode
What Caleb is trying to say is "You get a penny back for spending a dollar means you still spent $0.99 regardless... Not that you earned a penny back"
The thing he was trying to say is this was not an optional purchase. Buying some non essential good justifying through Cashback is foolish. In the world that Caleb and his wife were pushing for, he still spends 100 on gas. 100 leaves his bank account and the net impact on his credit card statement is STILL the same. That means a decision to NOT use a credit card(in the case of an inelastic purchase) is strictly behavioral. There could be merit to that framing, but from a pure math standpoint, if a purchase is going to happen no matter what, it would be better to go through the cash back version.
But only if you then have the discipline to turn around and pay off the entire balance before the next cycle. He, and other poor choice people, spend it on the card and then also spend the bank account money, too. Then he doesn't have the money to pay off the balance. People who are intelligent and who have discipline can get cash back and not pay interest etc. People who come on this show aren't those people. He is not that person. @kennyhouse8662
No what he’s saying is cash back is cancelled out and even out weighed by the interest the card is accumulating. Dave Ramsay would be the one using your argument. Cash back can be good if you don’t let interest accrue and Caleb knows that
@@kennyhouse8662 this is only true if you DON’T HAVE A BALANCE ON THE CARD. If the card has a balance on it and you add to the balance that is ACCRUING INTEREST, going for the cashback is net negative. It’s literally worse than cash
This is what Caleb was trying to explain that you (and the guest) don’t seem to understand - it’s not just about behavior, the math is against you.
No, he's saying that getting a penny back when spending a dollar is way less than the $10 you'll be charged for carrying a balance you haven't paid off. Cash back is for people with no balance.

My husband is traveling for work this whole week. Tonight our "date night" is hitting play on Caleb's video at the exact same time and texting each other our reactions while we each eat dinner. Caleb is our favorite sweet treat! ❤
They only reason he reached out to go on the show was to advertise his name. She needs to run away from this child A.S.A.P.
“We do okay” (in comedy)”
*brings in $5000 a year*
That is actually not bad if he was putting in real hours at a day job and is making upward progress year after year. 99% of people that attempt any sort of performance art don’t make money at all.
$5,000 in a year probably puts him in the top 10% of people who are trying to be comics. Maybe higher.
Hmm within the comedy space sure that’s fair enough lol
My 9 year old son makes more than that mowing lawns and pulling weeds.
You often have to put several years of work honing your skills and building a network with any sort of creative pursuit before you see any monetary return. Caleb probably made $0 his first year doing youtube. The fact that he made even $5000 in a year and is looking to make more this year means he absolutely should stick with it. He needs to grow up though and work a full time day job and pursue comedy afterwords in the evenings and on weekends until it becomes financially viable to not have a day job anymore.
There is no way that this guy has a credit score over 800.
Why? Credit score isn't a measure of your value as a person. It's a measure of how much the credit companies f you.
If you have a lot of debt, but aren't maxing out cards and are paying the minimums this is exactly the type of fool they want. Why wouldn't they reward you with even more credit?
This guy thinks he’s MUCH more charming than he actually is. 🙄

“I don’t want to be controlling” its your money not his it’s not controlling to say no.
I think the problem is the balance of things and not the sentiment, because if it were flipped, him the breadwinner and saying no no no you can’t buy that etc. then you might see the problem there. The problem here is that they make a bunch of financially irresponsible choices and when it is seriously a stupid purchase or behavior they cannot afford, she doesn’t stand up and do all she can to keep that choice from being made.
They're married. It's legally 'theirs'. Fact.

This guy was GUTTED when he learned how nobody in the Midwest looks up to Indiana 😂
IU or Purdue need to win some back to back national championships before that could ever happen--not to mention the Colts etc.
I'm in Michigan and can confirm...Indiana sucks.
@@zoilalulu3798I’m in Indiana, and it does suck.
Caleb needs to preface his score with what a 0 is and what a 10 is. Like "Jeff bezos is a 10, a homeless guy is a 0, and the average American is a 5".
Too many people will think of a 0-10 scale with school grades in mind, where 7/10 is average a C grade, 6/10 is a D, and failing is 0-5 an F.
But Caleb scores differently. Many people are a 0 even though they have places to live (most of them are in danger of losing their home tho.) Caleb goes on often about how bad the average American is.
Most European countries operate without as much debt as American’s are accustomed to, but I’m not sure if it’s fair to measure us against other countries standards.
