- Joel Mogul never thought he’d own a Ferrari, let alone a 1971 365 GTB/4. But when an old Ferrari team mechanic assured him the red Daytona sitting on jack stands-which hadn’t been driven for years, had seized shocks, and had only gum and varnish left in the fuel system from the long-ago evaporated gas-was “a gooda car…A low milesa car,” he took him at his word and went in head first. Although the Daytona is famed for its pedigree on the track, where Mogul admits the car’s limits are well beyond his as a driver, he also savors the gorgeous 12-cylinder soundtrack for extended road trips, grand touring in speed and style.
This is a Breakdown of Hagerty’s Flat Out video series, where we dig deeper into the stories and people behind the cars tearing it up on the track. Be sure to check out the Ferrari Daytona on the move in its Flat Out episode here.

He complains about having to go thru the whole fuel system and replace the shocks, I'm just like "That's all that needed fixing?!?"
Great video with an awesome car. Thanks for the great stuff Hagerty!
I find it interesting that he doesn't properly know why it was dubbed the 'Daytona.' He said they were the cars that took 1,2,3 and 5th at Daytona but those cars were Ferrari 330 P4s, an entirely different beast, a mid-engined prototype racer. They were named the Daytona as the 365 was unveiled and released only a few months after this event and were dubbed the 'Daytona' as a tribute to that brilliant racing success.
You know the 365 GTB/4's history and he owns the car. Congratulations.
Larry Smith I’ve been lucky enough to drive one so I’m not complaining
Thanks for pointing this out. I didnt think it sounded correct when he said it. He could've mentioned that at the time, the Ferrari Daytona was the fastest production car in the world (174:mph)
Many people, sime of whom should know better, quote this story. The 365GTB/4 has absolutely nothing to do with the cars that won Daytona.
That's one beautiful classic Ferrari.
In late January of 1970, I moved to Los Angeles to go to school. I lived several blocks from Hollywood Sports Cars and used to go in there regularly to drool over (not on) the new Ferraris and this was (I'm sure) probably one of the cars that I lusted after. HSC had a small annex about half a block east of the showroom where they kept the used cars and cars that were awaiting repair. I remember once seeing a (I think this is what it was) 512 Ferrari, yellow in color, that was owned by Dean Martin's son. It was in for some repairs on the rear and was for sale. The asking price was $30,000.00. One time I was walking past HSC when someone was out for a test drive with a brand new 365 roadster, i.e., a convertible. To this day, I'll always remember the sound of that car as the driver got on the 101 and headed north. From the instant I saw these cars, I knew that they were bound to become classics but I was a struggling student and $20,000.00, for a new car, was "all the money in the world." Maybe in the next life.
Toby Halicki owned a junkyard next to Ascot Park in Gardena, California. "Director" is a misnomer. Toby did write, star, direct and produce Gone in 60 Seconds but the junkyard allowed him to make the movie - he already owned all the vehicles.
If he directed it, how is it incorrect to call him the director?
I like how the car has 64,000 miles. This car has been enjoyed.
It has? 1333 miles per year, that's not much driving enjoyment, but I would derive just as much pleasure from looking at this car in my garage, to be honest.
That car is beautiful, it is art that can be driven, and a joy to behold. Thanks for sharing.
That car is super hot fire, lucky man to have got his hands on this. Amazing
Worth about 1 million today.
My gosh that's a beautiful piece of machinery.. work of art. I would love to drive that car in a race track. I appreciate the master piece and design of the historical cars.😍👍👍💯🏎️🏎️🏎️
his italian accent's horrible, i love it.
Andrew Samy lol. So true.
One of my all time faves.
Thanks for driving this car
I think "Bruno" was a Los Angeles area Ferrari shop owner.
I know a guy that started his own Ferrari shop some years ago, and I believe that he once told me that he bought out Bruno's parts supply when Bruno closed his shop?
Listen to that V12 mmmhmmm
Dan Perkins not just V12, carbureted V12. Mmmmm sweeeet growl.
Saul Goodman
You gotta drive 'em...
Awesome sound that's what a Ferrari should sound like.
excellent ferrari 1971
Why do you need a new radio with such a glorious V12 engine noise?
I Love this series
1:47 LOL !!!
Beautiful, beautiful car
Beautiful Ferrari!😁👍⚒️🛠️
I thought the car was gonna get broke down ( disassembled) 🙁... great car and story nonetheless 👍
good job nice video
Awesome
Why's the mileage so low? Bleedin' rhetorical question, innit, Bruno?
The Daytona didn’t win at Daytona, it was the P3 & P4 Ferraris that won and they bear no resemblance to the 365GTB/4.
like 6 mpg?
"...commonly known as the "Daytona" - it was dubbed that by the motoring press shortly after it came out when it won 1st, 2nd, 3rd at the 24 Hours of Daytona...." he says....
No, it didn't, you great nana - a quick glance will tell you that this is a road-going GT car. The Daytona 24 Hours was won by pukka Ferrari sports-racers - two P4s and a P3.
The 365 GTB/4 was simply the next road-going model they introduced.
Molto bella!!
Izza a veddy nica car eh.
Who cares about a radio. I'd rather listen to the engine.
God she’s beautiful.
Manual Steering? wow
