I think Johnathan being a Bat fan is a nice parallel to Dick Grayson being a Supes fan, despite being the OG Robin.

fun fact: In the injustice universe Pa Kent reveals Bruce that Supes has always been a fan of Batman, like he would always talk about him to his parents, he even stated: Superman can lift or laser mountains(I don't remember exactly), but he believes Batman can walk on the water. So I thought that John being Bat fan was a great call back to this moment.
Damian sided with superman against batman in injustice
Its strange how in the comics Damian & Jon's development after their debuts are total opposites of each other. For example Damian went from a hated character to likeable character due to be given proper character development, but Jon went from a likeable character to unlikeable due to DC deciding to make him older and less interesting.

People forget that Damian was originally created by Morrison to be a foil to Dick Grayson, who was Batman at the time. Damian really needs a bright, upbeat, optimistic partner to really make him shine. It's why Morrison's Batman and Robin series worked so well, and why Jon is such a good match for the Little Boy Jackass.

That aside, that’s also what makes me love that Damian and Dick actually had a pretty good relationship. Especially when Tim & Jason can barely get along with the Demon Spawn.
Dick wasnt batman when damian was introduced, and Morrison revealed that he was meant to die before Dick became batman

The first animated adaptation of the super sons couldn’t have been done any better!

Yep, that's also what I thought when Vee brought up the black eye. He had super strength, but wasn't "arrow-proof" yet.
There's also the fact that his powers were unstable in the comics.
I saw the trailer, was concerned this could be a little too kiddy. Was pleasantly surprised. This is defintely one of my faves in the DC animated.
And I want to see more of Bat-Cow.

Damien has grown on me over time. Same with Jonathon. Was never big on the idea of Superman and Batman being parents but this works. Great movie.
Great movie indeed. the show *Superman & Lois* really helped me enjoy the concept of seeing Superman as a dad, and Jonathan is my favorite main cast member in it... I'm really bummed out about them changing the actor for season 3, but they don't really have a choice.
I still Don't why people hate Damien like what did anyone expect from a child being raised by the daughter of the leader of the league of assassins and trained under him to become you guessed it an assassin believing it's the right thing to do until he met his father Bruce Wayne AKA the batman who goes against their beliefs and wants none of it and all of a sudden he is supposed to believe that everything he was taught to do since childhood is all wrong and that he shouldn't be the killing machine that Ra's al ghul wanted him to be how the hell did anyone think he was supposed to be off course he would be cocky and arrogant and thinks that he is better than everyone else he might not be the best Robin but that doesn't mean that he's entirely as bad as people think he is
The idea of Jonathan I'm not against. I find it fitting for Superman settling down and starting a family. It makes him feel so human.

I think at some point we all saw our dads as “Superman”. I’m sure this movie will be a really good watch.

And yet in the comics it started like this and bendis came along and completely destroyed that by ageing Jonathan and making it all.about coming out that he's gay, so yeah let's hope.the animated doesn't go this way

Batman and Superman Battle of the Supersons is a great DC film. It does right by Superman, it doesn't let Batman take over the film when he comes into the story while also doing right by him, Lois plays an important role in the film, and the film does a good job with Jon Kent's Superboy and Damien Wayne's Robin. This film makes me enjoy the relationship between Jon and Damien, while wanting to see more. Even the way the film utilized Starro, the first comic book villain of the justice league, shows how much of a threat that the alien starfish usually is. I love this film.

For this being the first Super Sons movie DC did a real good job, it felt like watching a Saturday cartoon. Jon first day of being a superhero was literally him having to save the world and the Justice League from Starro which is pretty amazing. Damien story line was nice and definitely stay true to his character of being a brat because what kid you know who was trained by assassins since birth and go out fight crime with one of the most edgy brooding I like my coffee black as my soul Batman not expect him to be bratty and full himself lol
Super Sons comics is also awesome but I really don’t like that they age Jon up so fast, they really didn’t need to rush him to grow and just let him enjoy his childhood but it is what it is.
It would be nice to see more movies with Damien and Jonathan. Seeing them grow up throughout movies would be nice. Superboy goes hard in the comics

@@kp1x to be honest I have been reading those comics and it looks like they are switching to focus more on him being the new Superman rather than his sexuality. But at first they did focus quite a bit on his orientation. It doesn’t look like they will make it a focus now but I could be wrong

Man, I'm so excited to finally watch this movie. Seems like they put a lot of care and attention to this movie. I really missed the Damien and Jon dynamic. Such a shame they ruined it in the comics. So much potential wasted.
Imagine what it would’ve been like to see them grow up together. If they were both the same age. Their friendship might’ve been better than Batman and Superman or Nightwing and Wally or Barry and Hal. They would’ve been a great crime fighting team also. But nope make superboy old and turn him bi - sexual
@@IamDamian412 yeah i honestly dont know what was the point of making superboy older he was SUPERBOY not superman and the bi part was honestly for no reason because most of the time when they make a boy bi in the comics they never even date a boy (i never saw a superboy comic so from my perspective)

I was waiting for the movie to be available to watch and I ended up loving it. And the dynamic between Johnathan and Damien is adorable and well thought out.

This was one of those when I saw the trailer I got a sense of respect for the children it was being made for. It also looks like it respects the family dynamic, so happy to hear it didn’t subvert my expectations.

I never thought I'd live to see Laura Bailey play Lois given that most of the characters she plays are femme fatale, but damn she killed it.
It's funny I really like her Kid Trunks and Lucina, she was Chun-Li before the new VA for 6 was revealed

I agree with this recommendation, both series are wonderful and I miss this dynamic that Jon Kent had with his family and Damian before they felt the need to suddenly age him up instead of having grow alongside Damian.

The animation put me off at first, but it eventually grow on me. It's always nice to see more of the supersons. I really miss their old series.

Yea, and plus I never thought it looked more like young justice, especially when you look at the members that were apart of TT and YJ in the comics, and that TT had more members in their roster than in YJ, especially when half of those characters in that roster of TT in the movie were apart of YJ.
I guess I can see the confusion since the YJ animated series basically combined both teams together and while the show is called Young Justice, the team itself never had an actual name in the show.

first video I've seen of yours but love video essays and you earned my sub.
It’s crazy maybe a month or 2 ago I was watching a bunch of videos about the super sons run. Like the guy who voices over the comics, forgot his name but enjoyed the videos a lot. So seeing this adapted into a movie is crazy cool.
I think the character art style took a bit of inspiration from Tron: Uprising, but to be fair, all cell shaded animation really has a specific look that cannot be escaped (for better or worse).
Also the Super-Son's comic series had more than a fair share of really good arcs.
I'm not into this animation style, it's too janky for me, but I won't pass up a supersons movie🥰

Yeah. If there's one "negative" I have against the movie is the Teen Titans does feel like Young Justice. I get that some are characters the casual viewer might know but throw a twist. Throw a new bone in there. The closest we get with that is Cassie Sandmark as Wondergirl. Personally, I think they should've gone more. Just showcase Tim (Red Robin) on the team, with Cassie, Bart Allen (Impulse) or Wallance West (Kid Flash), and Emi Queen (Red Arrow). That alone mixes the team up but also adds another layer. Maybe Damian feels insecure about being on the team his "brother" is on and later on tells Jon this?
It can add more into relating toward Damian. Plus they're characters near Damian's generation. Compared to.. Roy Harper and Wally West as Red Arrow/Kid Flash.. AGAIN.
Also, Vee if you love this movie, the guy who wrote this (Jeremy Adams) is killing it on the Flash ongoing right now.

@@joeclarke7982 it still annoys me over what Bendis did to Jon Kent, he was a great character and they suddenly aged him up for stupid reasons instead of letting mature in a more natural manner where he could keep the fun dynamic he had with Damian.
@@morganyoung3557 100% agree. Its sad that they messed up Jons character by aging him up instead of letting him develop alongside Damian. I was hoping at some point a writer would find some way to de age Jon but now that theyve been exploring his sexuality i dont think they can ever backtrack now
If you love the writing in this movie them I would recommend the current run of The Flash written by the same writer of this movie, Jeremy Adams. Easily the best ongoing series at DC right now

I thought the pacing of this movie was a bit weird at times. Also I wish that they had taken more time to show how different Jons life is from Damians. Overall I liked the movie but I think there is still sooooo much unlocked potential when it comes to this duo

I love this animated movie it was great that this movie keeps the progression of Clark being a father. I do wish it wasn't CGI and was old school animated and it would have been nice if there was a change in tone between Clark being Superman and Clark as a father. He could have interacted with the other heroes as Supes but then change it as he talks to Jonathon like a dad at work and at home.

When that kid gave Jonathan a black eye he didn't have his invulnerability yet. It's even mentioned in the movie. We then see him shot with an arrow and they say "arrow proof now" showing he now has his invulnerability or at least more physical defense.
Seeing Krypton explode here was at least a little relevant, since Clark's ship is later used to get to the Justice LEague station.
Baby Superman in his Super suit was a highlight for me. Cute little guy. ❤❤❤
Nolan North voices both Superman and Superboy in Young Justice does absolutely amazing work there but nothing tops his voice for Nathan Drake
I've watched a number of your videos, as a Super Sons reader myself, I enjoy both of their characters, including Damian Wayne to which you have so much to say from your own thoughts, I know none of the characters are perfect, as there have been some writers of the characters I don't like.

I love Battle of the super sons animated movie mostly because it did everything I ever wanted especially as a huge fan of Jonathan Samuel Kent superboy as his little 10 year old self and Damian wayne robin being a team from the comics but adapted in animation makes me so happy that this movie succeeded in adapting my favorite team in dc comics period, which is why I am hoping really hoping if this movie sells amazingly we one get a sequel obviously to this amazing movie yes but also a bonus maybe just maybe this will finally give the message to DC comics that people like me want the return of real Jonathan Samuel Kent superboy as his little 10 year old self in the comics and the restoration of the super sons series with both Jon kent superboy and Damian wayne robin and plus a bonus add in wally's kids irey and jai west and a bonus add in both kathy aka beacon and maya ducard nobody because that would be really awesome and tons of fun to see all of these kids forming there own team which would be really awesome and tons of fun at least in my opinion.
Just seeing Supes genuinely happy is the best thing ever 😂

I love this movie and the animation being a nod to the original super sons artist Jorge Jimenez is even better. It might be a problem for some about Superman not using his updated motto but I just moved passed it and saw it for what it was trying to do. A nice little dcu movie about two kids and their lives

Just saw the movie & I think the Super Sons will be the next Worlds Finest. As some of the older fans will remember was a title that featured Superman & Batman.
They explain why he gets the black eye from the kid and not from taking punches with Batman.
He doesn't develop his invulnerability until after Green Arrow shoots him.
So when the kid punched him he may have had super strength, he wasn't invulnerable to damage until just before he fought Batman.
