I'm the one guy who really liked the Trigen twist later in the game, too. Really changed the power dynamic and it was incredible.
I was there 20 years ago!
The best decade for gaming industry for me easily i think was from about 1998 - 2008. Every year you had such huge anticipation & games pushed industry forward in gameplay, I remember thinking no boundry for where we'd be 10 yrs later. Then live service crept in & killed it all.. very few have escaped the pitfalls. Hopefully we see another renaissance.
1998 had metal gear solid and resident evil 2

Played through this a lot. There wasn't anything like it and the freedom to attack stuff was overwhelming. Had to go through it a few times.
You should do Soldier of Fortune (the 1st game) next, that game was unique as the first to bring in "area damage" to the body (also has one of the greatest theme songs created as promotional material for a game), like Red Faction being unique as the first to introduce proper environmental damage.
I refuse to believe Farcry launched 2 decades ago.

One of the first games I got on original Xbox. Loved it.
I loved this let's play. The last mission indeed sucks. I do remember playing this mission over and over well. After this, the game becomes fun again.
I played this game when I was 8 years old back then in 2006 and I still remember all the levels
Hah! The game I used to show my mates what my ATI Radeon 9600XT was capable off! ...Back in 2004!
I replayed it last year on my Steam Deck. The thing that stood out to me was the atrocious AI that sees through the bushes... So I ignored stealth and went in guns blazing everywhere! Still great fun!
Cryengine was also used for KCD wasn't it?
It was! This was the first iteration so we kinda have Far Cry to thank for KCD

I’ve never been interested in Far Cry. Honestly didn’t even know it existed until it released in 2016/18, I think it was FC5 maybe.
