My biggest buyer's remorse is all the "wow, that's only $5!" clothing items I've gotten in the past. Things I thought were cute and that I could wear and if not, "Well, it was only $8." That stuff adds up and I'm moving now and I have all this crap I never wore to donate.

I love your point about embracing true joys. For me, it's going to concerts for musicians that I love. At first I felt some guilt for spending so much more on a ticket to be able to meet the artist or sit in the front row. But I have realized that those moments are some of my happiest memories. They bring me so much joy and it absolutely feels worth it

Buyers remorse for me usually has to do with pricier items that I purchased for my fantasy self, rather than for items I'll actually use frequently. I've learned that I'm happiest when I use those funds for my vacations.

The "Wish List" has been a life saver for me this year! The only thing that gets me is when I go back to the list and the thing I'm ready to purchase is no longer available. But even that, I can just say "Oh well" and move on. Thank you for all your encouragement!!!

Yes to “experiences over things” 100x yes! Dining out, visiting new places and venues, going to shows and concerts are all worth more than buying a new thing. Get to a point in your wardrobe where you have pieces that you enjoy to wear and look good in and then wear those clothes to actual events and activities. Don’t just keep combing through what you think your wardrobe is missing and spending your time buying more and more things. Clothes are not the end all, they’re just what you wear while you live your life.

When I was a teen shopping with my best friend I remember trying on a piece and being on the fence and my best friend offhandedly saying "if you have any doubts then it's a no" and similarly to 8, it has now become a motto for me when I'm shopping. Thanks for everything you share, Christina. :)

  • @melocoton7
    @melocoton7 Před rokem +6

Yes to all!! I prefer online shopping because I can try the item on several times over several days. Moods change, weight fluctuates a bit. Sometimes it needs to marinate and you have to look at it without the excitement of receiving it. Usually I don't see any issues the first couple of times I try it on. Only after my pink love glasses have calmed down I can see the item for real. Then I try it on with as many things in my closet as possible. If I'm not totally in love with it after that it will be returned. I have wasted way too much money in the past with mehh items.

Buyers remorse is a horrible thing. Most times for me, it happens when I’m influenced. I’m shopping with a friend and they say the jeans look great and I don’t like the price tag and it seems like trendy denim- but I buy it and it gets worn a handful of times and I can’t even part with it…. I’ve also bought styles of denim because an influencer said it was a great piece and I’ve never felt comfortable in it.

The cut is great, but I support going shorter. I think having visual space between the top of your shoulders and your hair will be super cute and fun stylistically. Plus, I’ve found that when you want to go shorter you should always scratch that itch. Have fun with it, it will get to this length again if you want it to.

I'm glad you made this video. Buyers remorse is one of the problem I really don't like dealing with. It really makes me overthink what I buy and eventually not make use of the item out because of this over thinking. Stuff like "did I really want this", " am I happy with this", or "well this make me happy in the long run". Even if I do come up with a solution or a positive thought why I have it there's always a negative working in the corner saying something that puts me in a bad mood and start overthinking. Even if I have planned this out and thought about everything before buying the product (like if it's on sale or what best time I can use said product), the overthinking really gets to me. I remember one product that I was having Buyers Remorse where I did find a solution around it and over time I did came over it, but the hard part is the now and sometimes, if you're OK with the solution you came up with. Sometimes I feel like it just want to cry because I really don't know if it's exactly buyers remorse or it's just me overthinking sometimes. It's a feeling I really don't like but eventually only time would really help
Edit: just want to point out that the item I bought, I don't exactly hate it, I know what I was getting into, and I enjoy the previous variation of this item, but something about it is just off like maybe it was the wrong time to buy it or I'm just overthinking is this what I really wanted. I'm like this with everything I buy that as a high price even if it's on sale too. I do have couple gases but the point is elites to overthinking and then I start getting all sad

Great video! My recent buyers remorse was a Susan Graver top from QVC in the summer. It looked great on the model and was very different. It had a light blue waffle knit front and back and the sleeves were a polyester lacy multi color pattern. Scoop neckline. When it arrived it looked sloppy ...too long, neck too large, etc, but since I'm using my tailor frequently now so my clothes all fit well, I took it to her to shorten the length and bring up the sleeves so the neck opening was smaller. BIG MISTAKE ! It didn't work. I spent as much tailoring it as it cost. I don't even like waffle knit at all and totally won't purchase or wear polyester.
So why did I purchase this? It just looked so darn cute on the young thin models. Lesson learned. I should have returned it.

Great advice, as always! Thank you! 👏😊
I love your hair at this length! 😍 If you want more time in between haircut appointments, I would definitely go shorter next time though, since you will likely get annoyed once it gets to that awkward length where it really starts resting on your shoulders.
Right now I feel like it’s at the perfect length- if you agree with me on that, getting it cut an inch or so shorter will make it so you enjoy your hair for longer (and save you money at the same time) by giving you more time in between appointments + less appointments per year. 👍
Major tip- make sure you always book your appointment weeks in advance, especially at this time with the holidays coming up, because everyone will be rushing to get an appointment. 😉
The average rate of hair growth is about 1/2 inch per month, which is a good way to figure out when you’ll likely be itching to have it cut again. For instance, I have a “French bob”- I get a trim every two months, and I get it cut about 1 inch above my chin because I like it the most when the length is at, or above, my chin. Hope this helps! 😊 xox!

Great points you made. The one I use the most is not buying clothing immediately, it really helps me avoid buying something impulsively when I wait 24 hours or more. I love the idea of being happy about missing out. It's just what I need. I need to remind myself of how good it feels not to have so much stuff cluttering up my closets, drawers, and cupboards. I have a passion for crafting and making things. It's good for me to buy things for this because I find it so satisfying. Nevertheless, I need to extend the 24 wait period on these things too, or I do end up with byers remorse.

Can’t wait to see your new shorter length. I have accepted that every few wardrobe purchases there is going to be some thing that doesn’t work out as intended. For example, some shoes just aren’t as comfortable as you hope after you truly give them a run. My biggest regrets, are when I have let my favorite items go prematurely. I wish I had just put them aside for a season or had them mended for more use. I almost discarded my swimsuit recently but realized I could probably find away to add some elastic to get more use out of it. I couldn’t find anything I liked nearly as much.

I learned that over time, having a wish list and trying things out in store makes a difference. Sometimes, the one thing that I was excited to get is actually not worth the hype once I try it on. For instance, I wanted to try jogger jeans the other day. Instead of going for impulse buying, however, I waited for a month. Sure enough, the item's price was reduced, which was great. But...once I tried the pants on, I realized that I just wasn't feeling it. The pockets make the garment look like some work pants, and it was just no different from the other jeans I had in the 90s. So, some $40 saved right there. And I still love jeans-collecting. I wear each and every pair that I have - they get rotated all the time, so they all see some time outside.

if i feel buyers remorse and cant return it, 9 times out of 10 i try to make it work if there's no sizing issue ! there must have been a reason why i bought it, so either I dye it, tailor it or spend an afternoon pairing it with unusual things which usually makes me happy because i love clothes and my wardrobe. I'm at the point in my journey where i can start experimenting with cool stuff so it's super fun to step out of the box and at least get some of my money's worth you know.

Wishlist part works all the time. Sometimes I end up buying nothing from a wishlist with 10+ items

I’m just waiting for a holiday discount after season ends. If it’s still available, then yep, I’ll buy it.

The WOW-items are mostly the ones I regret buying. They catch your eye in the store but they often don't function with the rest of your wardrobe or there are not enough occasions to wear them. I totally agree with the other points to consider. And your hair - if your neck is slim and long and your hair has a lot of volume - don't cut it shorter. I did and I regretted it for those exact reasons.

Def shorter, I had a kitchen scissors lob 93-94, …fell halfway between jaw and shoulders. Then I shaved my head ala Tank Girl

I love the new hair just the way it is! If you go shorter, it may be more difficult to create an updo. Maybe live with it for a while and see?

I just experienced buyers remorse after buying one watch 2 months ago, which I wear every day and isn’t a regret buy, it’s a great watch, but then I bought 2 other watches which were on sale and ended up putting them in a drawer because I didn’t wear them anywhere near as much as the first watch I bought, so I had such strong buyers remorse that I put them away so I don’t have to see them lol. Quite sad really because they actually are quite nice watches too, and could have gone with someone who would actually use them. And I can’t return them because silly me threw the receipt and packaging away lol.

I love your new hair. I say don't go shorter. Mid-length hair is the most versatile.
I very rarely have buyers remorse anymore. In my 50's I have learned to mostly avoid this.
    1. I keep a list of things I really want.
    2. When I buy something, I make sure I know the return policy and buy from stores that have liberal return policies.
    3. I then hang the item in my closet and try it on multiple times, like sometimes everyday for a week or something like that. I try the item with things I own to see if it works with my wardrobe. Many purchases end up going back to the store.
    4. I no longer settle. I used to buy clothes that were cheap and on sale and while sometimes they turned out to be items I loved, more often than not, I wore them a few times and then I ended up giving them away. Often these items had one little thing about them that I wasn't sure about like color, the fit, etc but it was cute for the most part and a good price so I bought it. Now If I have any doubt whatsoever, I return it. I tell myself, I can always find clothes that are exactly what I want.
    5. I look at cost as cost per wear. If I really love something, then it is worth it to spend more and have that item for many years. This is within reason of my budget of course.
    6. Buying less clothes and putting more thought into every purchase (this started about 5 years ago as a way to pay off debt but it has now became habit for me and I will never shop like I used to). Of course there are always things I want to buy, but for the most part I am pretty happy now with my wardrobe as opposed to previously when I was always shopping and always felt like I had nothing to wear.
    7. I buy clothes that fit me. I no longer buy clothes that I have to lose 5-10 lbs to get into or buy clothes when I am a low weight that I know is not maintainable. I did this all the time when I was young because you know, you never think you are thin enough. My friends and I were always on crazy diets. Looking back, I realize I was not overweight at all.
    8. I know my style and what works for my body type.
    9. I no longer buy fantasy clothes that I like on others but are just not me or are not suited for my body type.

I use the KarmaNow app to hold my wishlist.
Not only does it serve as a wishlist but let's me know if my items go down in price or go in and out of stock.
And over time I use it as a list of what I have in my wardrobe. I'm thinking of using a wardrobe app. Would love you to review them.

Hi Christina! I’ve been watching your videos non stop and found out you are a pharmacist! I am currently a pharmacy tech and thinking about going to school for a pharmD! I would love to see a video on advice and your experience in pharmacy school, I know it’s not exactly your content but you could add how to budget during school and if you think the debt is worth it. It would be really helpful and i’d love to hear your perspective!
