It goes even farther but when you hit the Alabama line it turns into the Chief Ladiga Trail. The most scenic part of the Comet Trail is from Dallas to Cedartown.
The Meggitt plant used to be a Goodyear plant, they make fuel tanks for military helicopters now. That cute little neighborhood across from it is called Goodyear Village. I live near the back side of rhe plant. I fly R/C planes at the old golf course beside the plant a good bit.
Clothes made from a cotton home spinning wheel of cotton thread were then made into cotton clothes. Thus, home spun cotton. The Home Spun Festival gets its name from that.
Homespun will be held on October 7th this year at seaborn jones park (the park next to the silver comet trail with the white bridge). Its always a good time, yall should stop by.
This elementary school, built by Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company soon after they opened a factory in Rockmart, is typical of other schools of the era. It is no longer in use. The Rockmart plant of Goodyear Tire & Rubber was responsible, for many years, for the production of the giant balloons used each year in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

The Silver Comet Trail starts on the northwest side of the Atlanta area and goes 60 miles west to the Alabama state line.
