For me, the difference is really about the contract for the institution. If you are focusing on part-time courses, often people will call them lecturers.
However, if you are focused on a full-time position at a university, most often it will be called a professor, if they are tenure track. This means that you are on your way to represent the university as one of other professors.
Professors generally have a PhD at most universities, and they do a combination of research, teaching, and service.

As a first-gen student and someone who is currently determining which path to follow for my academic future, this was extremely insightful and helpful! I especially appreciate how you emphasize that one position is not better than the other; rather, they have different responsibilities and priorities. I have been feeling an immense amount of pressure to go the professor route because of that stigma that the title "lecturer" holds, but after hearing that reassurance in your video, I definitely think lecturer is a better fit for me. Might be difficult to distinguish one from the other. Because different countries have different ranking systems for the same titles.
