Restrictor ring is has to be on top (above) not bottom of groove, also the distance of ring max of 1/2" (12mm) from groove. The ring flange distance out from pipe should be at least 3" if I recall....or was it 6". So no this is not a AWS qualified 6GR
In don't know any of this stuff, but unless it was specified that the flange thing has to be on the bottom side of the test setup, wouldn't you tack it to the top part and hang your off hand on it for supporting hand? Doesn't matter then if you bounce the rig because you're locked onto it. Regardless of method, to get this weld even "done", without it going arse up seems to require more than I might know.

Brother works at Diablo canyon nuclear power plant doing this. must take a full welding test every time he gets called for a 3 month shift. The welders working there are some of the best there is.

La probeta de 6 GR no es asi. Eso es una 6G con un disco que molesta un poco. Pero ni el bisel de una de las piezas es así, ni el anillo restrictor está colocado a la distancia correcta. Es por arriba donde ha de estar.
Зачистите тело трубы по 2см от кромки извращенцы. Зачем лишний раз купаться в шлаке при облицовке. И внутренние кромки тоже зачистить, возможна зашлаковка обратного валика
Если не зачистить трубу внутри, то будет подрез а не зашлаковка! И вообще это не сварка, а хрень полнейшая, сколько смотрю и удивляюсь как он так корни херачит что даже зазор не стягивает ( стопудовый пиздешь))

Technically yes. But depending on the code and procedure. Root passes can be done up or downhill but that is determined by the CWI and what the structure/piping is used for. Your hot, fill, and cap have to be uphill if you’re using a low hydrogen (7018) rod because of the flux and slag it produces behind the puddle of the weld. While you can go downhill with it, the weld will be very weak and include slag inclusion, lack of fusion, and possibly porosity. 6010 and 6011 are perfect for downhill because of the light slag coating it leaves behind plus it is a minor weld pass used. Uphill welds make it stronger than downhill but it comes down to the thickness of the material, the welding process you are using, required amount of passes to be made, and using the proper equipment/settings.

6GR weld. Basically a 6g pipe with a restriction ring with only one beveled pipe. This is to simulate a restricted position for the welder having to be used in tight positions. It is a fillet weld on pipe at 45 degrees. But he did it wrong since the restriction ring needs to be above the open bevel area on the pipe in order to fully simulate it.

Arc strikes outside of the allowable weld area are an IMMEDIATE FAIL. The weld area is not to exceed 1/16" outside of the bevels.
Are you sure it's not a small slow fail?

This 6GR test was one l did in 1989, it was a last min decision to have the flange in place, as I'd not practiced with a flange, passed all same.

6gr Pipe on top is sch 80 no bevel. Pipe on bottom is sch 40. Resrictor ring is 1/2" from pipe. For strucutual pipe.AWS D1.1

And the ring flat is separate 1/2 inch from the bevel no more and root pass is 7018 and gap is 5/32 sometimes 3/16
