How to get ANY SHINY in Pokemon Gold/Silver Virtual Console 3DS Coin Case Glitch [No Gameshark used]

- How to get ANY SHINY Pokemon in Pokemon Gold/Silver ENG versions using the Coin Case Glitch [No Gameshark used]. This still works for Pokemon Gold and Silver Virtual Console 3DS (VC).
This is my favorite Generation II glitch which can make any Pokemon Shiny if you wish to complete your shiny Pokedex. Get a Shiny Celebi, Shiny Mew, or even Shiny Ditto if you wish to Shiny Breed yourself. Repeat as many times as you want.
[REQUIREMENTS]
- Following Items in your PC pastebin.com/vhPmvA36
- Quagsire with Sleep Talk in 1st Attack Slot holding HP UP in 4th Party Slot
- Low level wild Pokemon in 3rd Party Slot. Catch another if glitch doesn't work.
- A Pokemon in 1st Party slot you wish to make shiny by changing its DVs. You can use • How to get ANY Pokemon... to get ANY Pokemon you want.
[STEPS]
- After you obtained all the items and Pokemon, head to New Bark Town.
- Save and Reset inside Elm's Lab.
- Step outside then go 4 steps to the right.
- Open the Pokedex and listen to Machop's cry.
- Then go to your bag and use the Coin Case, making sure you switch pockets before.
- Close your bag and head to your Pokemon to see your new Shiny!
Use my previous video to help you get ANY Pokemon from G/S which you want to make Shiny. Repeat as many times as you want and remember to use the PC Cloning Glitch to have spares.

I Am A Duck truth be told, I have not tried the breeding exploit. For now, we have no way of knowing if they will be able to be transferred. Pokétransporter has not been updated. You can use PKHex to move them but that may not be 1:1 yet

I would see no reason for it to not be. If they didn't patch this one then they likely didn't patch any at all. I haven't tried any glitch but this one because I just finished the game and really wanted to get this one working.

EDIT: Apparently it doesn't. I do want to get a "legit" Shiny Celebi that should be able to transfer to Generation 7 onwards, so this glitch is like the only way I can as long as Celebi is lvl 30 or higher and knows moves that it can learn.
I accidentally taught my suicide rest and sleep talk so I no longer have the TM and I can’t reset at this point in the game because I’ve already lvled up my dragonite and charizard. Is there a way to dupe a specific item into my bag, so I can getTM 35 again or do I have to buy it on another DS and trade over a quagsire?
To my knowledge there is no way to get more of them, so you will have to get another DS and copy of the game.
If you have a friend with a copy of the game, then you can just ask them (but you might also want to give them a few rare Pokemon and items to make it worth their time).
Also, I don’t think it’s healthy that suicide has rest...
Finally got the method down a few days ago, the hardest part is finding the correct low level pokemon (took me 60 tries) .
did you 'design' the ways you utilize the coin case glitch yourself through understanding of how all the bits are arranged if you set things up these ways knowing what should happen or did you get this from somewhere?
If the first do you think it's possible to utilize this glitch to fill the pokedex up, be it at once or just registering individual pokemon using the coin case glitch? or can you only affect party pokemon with this glitch?
This can actually help for people who wanna increase the odds of a shiny pokemon in a egg if they don't have shiny ditto. Ill definitely do this glitch for that only.

This video got some more traffic once the VC games were released. I just tested it on my Gold VC game and works after getting a couple of low level Pokemon outside new bark town. Here's some main concerns I will try to address but please read the description before asking questions that most definitely have your answer there.
-Please read the pastebin for the correct items, you still need all items below Stick if you don't have one and replaced it with the others obviously.
-ONLY works in ENGLISH language games.
-If your game resets on its own or freezes you have a bad low level (2-4) Pokemon, I'll say it again, it might take you a couple of tries with others. Doesn't necessarily need to be exactly a lv2 female Sentret.
-With Shiny Ditto you can use it to breed others much easily, as the offspring with now have a 1/64 chance of being Shiny.
-All you're doing is changing the DV values of the Pokemon so that the Pokemon will be Shiny, just like the Gen 1 8F glitch did, so the Pokemon will be able to be transferred, minus Mew (shiny or not) of course.
-Clone your TMs if you want to use them on your Pokemon and still be able to do this glitch, unless you have 2 systems and you can trade items between them.
If you only care about getting a shiny Mew or Celebi only there are other videos that involve naming your PC boxes, but this method here is good for ALL Pokemon, even if you traded from your R/B/Y games.
Can you make an updated version of requirements and steps for the VC?
One question: will S/M accept these shinies without Nintendo BANNING you from events and the like? Shinies are cool and all, but they're not worth that.

Hey Rayquaza911 do you happen to have a description of what each item does in the PC box for this glitch? Since you are modifying the IV's of the pokemon in order to make them shiny it would be nice to be able to change the values of the items to modify the IVS to perfect IV's for example. I'm not sure if the glitch works that way or not but it seems to like certain items correspond to an iv value.

Thanks for the video! I was looking for a way to do some arbitrary code execution without having to worry about creating multiple item stacks. One issue that I am having with this glitch: it does not work consistently for me. I was frustrated when it had caught almost 100 low level Pokémon to use as my slot three "slide Pokémon" and having the glitch either fail, or work but load my menu extremely slowly (a quick fix for the slow/laggy menu is to go to the PC and save the game by switching boxes. After resetting, the game should be back to normal). I finally managed to hatch two female magikarp, and one of the carp worked as a slide Pokémon. THIS IS IMPORTANT-> I only got the glitch to work consistently when I had a low level magikarp as the second Pokémon, along with my slide Pokémon as the third Pokémon. The glitch works about 70% of the time now. Sometimes the game will still crash when I put certain Pokémon in the "shineyfy" first slot. The pokemknnthat consistently fail for me are: Lapras, Lickitung, Ponyta, and Slowbro. They just won't "shine." :-( Any idea why? I have done ACE with the W#SM item in Pokémon yellow before, I'm curious as to why the glitch won't work with certain Pokémon.
Another update! I found out that this trick works on eggs too. If you use the code on an egg, it will hatch shiny.

I went and did the bug catching contest so i can grab caterpie pinsir and scyther. I didnt feel like rearranging items constantly. In any case..now when i try to do the shiny glitch it messes up and im not sure if its due to the bug contest or not. Any idea?

I can confirm that resetting the game is not required to activate this glitch. You however still need to save in Elm's lab then proceed with the rest of the glitch as normal without resetting.

The glitch involves some sloppy coding specifically in the G/S American releases and doesn’t even work in other regional releases. They fixed it for crystal.
Hello! I don’t know if you’ll read this since the video is quite old, but thanks! Normally I shiny hunt legitimately but since I don’t own a cheating device I can’t get the old sea map to soft reset for Mew in Emerald yet. I figured I’d make an exception this one time just because of how tedious this method is, thanks again!
The map was only distributed in Japan. If you have a Japanese copy of Emerald you can use something like a GBA everdrive to extract the save file onto your PC and inject the Old Sea Map mystery gift using Pkhex for example.

Anyways. I'm commenting to share my experience. I spent days searching for the Stick and finally got it. I had everything set up in my PC and party. But it still didn't work.
Finally, after switching out stick for the other itemd suggested and using Ratatas instead of every Hoothoot I caught it worked.

I just tried to glitch a Marill after having this glitch work well over 100 times and the game reset in negative colors. I decided to try to make other Pokemon shiny but for whatever reason it does the same thing. I'm not sure what's going on, as I have everything right (Quagsire, items, low DV Pokemon) and have had success before. Any ideas about what might be going on?
Is it just Marill that isn't working? Idk what to say, been using this since the games were released still no issue on my end. I don't touch the items in the pc and i deposit the low level pokemon and quagsire whenever i dont need them.

Catch another low level pokemon, its friendship needs to be low so if that pokemon dont work no more, trade it and the friendship will reset to 0

Honestly I did about 3 hours of searching until I finally found a farfetch'd with a stick to put in place of the sub items and I still can't get the glitch to work. on my 12 low level pokemon and I just can't get the thing to work, it just freezes my game, blanks my screen, or SRs my game. I did this successfully for gold vc but now I want to do this for my physical gold cartridge. Got all the same items set up but when I execute the glitch, it resets the game in a different color. I guess I still need the right low iv pokemon

Hello I have some problem about the glich for the low pokemon stat can I have all the stat of your pokemon you use in the video if you can, because I use a level 1 catarpie with the ditto trick of the gen 1 for the step and the list of object is good and this is not enough I have also use 1 box of pokemon lv 2 to 3 male or female for try the glich and I have always freeze or reset screen, I use an English gold version in VC. I have a tricky question... So it's impossible to breed shiny pokemon if the gender ratio is 12% like female Togepi. And the shiny gene is transfered to the opposite gender offspring of the shiny parent, right? Say you have a female Togetic and a shiny male Xatu that knows Future Sight. Is it possible to use these 2 pokemon to breed a shiny male Togepi with that particular egg move? I have to know before I try it out myself.
it is possible but under very specific circumstances, since the togepi has to be male to ever be shiny, you would need a mother that has the proper def and special dvs to then give to the son, also you wouldn't be able to breed with another shiny pokemon because they surprisingly added a whole thing to make it so you cannot inbreed since if a pokemons defense dv and the special dv matches or is +-8 it will assume its related to the other pokemon and they will not breed

When I use the coin case, the coin case gets used and dissappears from the bag, the first mon is shiny though. I'm scared of saving and not being able to do it again. Is this normal or do you know any fix?

Glitch worked for half of my party. Umbreon an ho-oh in slot 1 and 2, sentret and quags in slot 3 and 4, lapras and raikou in slot 5 and 6.Was able to make umbreon and ho oh shiny but when i went to try raik and laps the game goes white after opening the coin case.Help?

Question. I know they changed the required DVs in Pokemon Red and Blue. But did they change the DVs in Pokemon Gold and Silver? If they did not do this, what happens if you trade a shiny Pokemon from Red/Blue to Gold/Silver? Would it lose it's shine?
The DVs for RBY were erroneously switched when transported only, in game they work as intended, they fixed that with the Poke Transporter V1.3, it wouldn't matter as my Gen 1 glitch method makes all DVs 10 so it will works even after the update.
Ok so they did fix that in Gold and Silver. But does that mean they fixed the DVS in Red/Blue/Yellow? I want to know because I have been hunting for a shiny Mewtwo, and I need to know if the values changed.
No. They did the fix when transporting. The DVs to get shinies in both games remain the same like the original as they have always been. If they have an Attack IV of 10, a Special IV of 10, a Speed IV of 10 and a particular Defense IV, it will be shiny. The Defence IV may be 2, 3, 6, 7, 10, 11, 14 or 15 for the Pokémon to be given Shiny status.
Before Poké Transporter’s recent 1.3 update, this worked slightly differently for the RBY Pokémon compared to the second generation games (Pokémon Gold, Silver and Crystal - GSC). In that case, the Attack and Defense stats were swapped (that is, Defense IV of 10 and Attack IV of any of the above numbers). This was changed in version 1.3, presumably to reflect how the just-released Gold and Silver calculate shinyness. Since my Gen 1 shiny glitch made all DVs 10, it still worked.

If I trade my Ho-oh, Lugia, and Celebi from Crystal to Gold, do the shiny glitch, and trade back to Crystal; will the Pokemon be able to transport to Sun and Moon and be considered a “legit” Pokemon? Just so everybody knows, it did work! When I traded the Pokemon to my copy of Moon is showed up as a “legit” shiny. :D

I know that you've ended this series on Gen 2 glitches, but is there a way to change the ID no. of Pokémon for ease of breeding?
If you're breeding for shinies just use a shiny ditto, or if you just want a pokemon with a different ID, how about obtaining a traded in-game pokemon and change that one to a ditto?

I got the items in order in the pc for the shiny glitch too ( The one without stick and those extra items blu apricon, any , nevermelt , any). 4th slot as quaggy with hp and sleep talk. 3rd slot as low level female pokes. It just doesnt seem to work for me . is it just bad rng? or am i missing something :(
Update : after catching 27 low level pokemon when i used the coin case it was thrown in the screen like a pokeball and it disappeared the pokemon in slot 1 turned shiny but i had to reset since the coin case disappeared. catching low level scrubs again now.

I got this working first try with 51x flower mail and a level 3 spinarak as my low level pokemon. Worked for 4 shinies then the game started glitching. I've been reading the comments and seeing that many people are having similar problems and the advice is to keep trying with new low level pokemon. Im just surprised it worked so well on the first try. I switched nevermeltice method to stick and it is still failing. Guess i will keep catching low levels and hope for the best

Mega rayquaza911 I tried this glitch but nothing happen, I have all the items, the quagsire with sleep talk and I change the low pokemon 5 times.
What have I done wrong? It's because I have the spanish european version? or I have to keep catching low level pokemon until it works?

@Mega rayquaza911 Hi there, I'm trying it now with the english version, and the glitch only resets my game with different colors, I already read what you said about tried the low level pokemon a couple of times, (right now I already tried 15) but the question is, how many low level pokemon did you tried before the glitch worked?

You could trade lvl 5 bellsprout only for(level it up to lvl 5 or something it) Onix and it's garenteed to work for the glitch
