When the old man gives you the egg couldn't you just clone the egg so you don't have to wait 15 minutes for another egg? Or does that not work
so i'm finally getting round to doing this method of breeding to get any last shinies i need from gen 1 and 2 but i've got a question. i've got the 'shiny' ekans and stantler in there just fine but can i put in a 'shiny' F stantler with a M stantler and have the best odds or does it have to be 2 different parents? having 2 stantlers is just gonna produce eggs faster
Just repeating for the people that need more clarification. The female ekans that hatches from the shiny gyarados parent and mama ekans do not need to be a shiny Ekans to pass the shiny gene.
Does this mean that say a “shiny gene” (not actually shiny” Pokémon can breed with a regular ditto and have the same chances as a shiny ditto? Since the “shiny gene” Pokémon can have any gender and still be shiny while breeding with a ditto. Roles reversed
This also goes to say, based on your breeding charts did you actually get shiny ekans or “shiny gene” ekans if you know what I mean
@@iceylo7448 A shiny gene ekans and a regular ditto will have 1/128 odds, the 1/64 that shiny ditto provides is because that ditto has the shiny gene, the offspring needs to be opposite gender of the parent that HAS the shiny gene, so if a gendered ekans has the gene, gender matters
how can you tell a non shiny looking ekans has shiny dvs
@@jimmboby990 it's probably possible to do using calculators on the internet, but without pkhex or something, it's probably impossible to know for sure other than remembering that that was the offspring of the shiny.
omg I just restarted crystal this week! Perfect timing for this video. Pretending it was personally done for me, so thanks! :)
It's a good one to go back to!
@@PKMNcast I have two Ditto catched just now, waiting for egg
Important note for Pokemon Gold players: I'm pretty sure wild Ekans cannot be found in Johto in Pokemon Gold, and only in Silver and Crystal. However, you can buy as many Ekans as you want from Goldenrod Game Corner, which act just like a freshly caught Ekans and have a random gender. You can save before buying one and just reset and try again if the Ekans you bought is the wrong gender. It will cost a lot for the 700 Game Coins you need but it seems to work.
can confirm it works :)
i got one yesterday!!
It's been about a year since I sought to get a shiny Eevee with this method, and I finally got one today on the 39th egg. Thank you so much, this method was very helpful and interesting to try out
I’m having quite a bit of trouble doing this method to get Eevee. Did you get a female Eevee carrying the Shiny Gene (not exactly shiny) and breed it with a PKMN of the same egg group to get a male Shiny Eevee? Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance🙏
@@davidthegenwunner6456 Sure thing! I got a female Eevee carrying the shiny gene and breeded it with a male Eevee to make eggs faster. You can breed Eevee with any other field egg group pokemon but that's up to you, but if you use another Eevee make sure it's not closely related to your female eevee
@@sonicboom3269 thanks for the timely response! Last thing, what are the odds of receiving a Shiny Male Eevee, considering the male to female ratio is 87.5% male and 12.5% female? Thanks again man!
@@davidthegenwunner6456 I'm not 100% sure on this, someone can correct me, but I think there's a 1/64 chance for a male shiny Eevee using a female Eevee with the shiny gene. Hope this helps!
@@sonicboom3269 thanks man! By the way I got after 164 egg hatches today so no worries haha. My luck has been bad with these but I finally got it so that’s all that matters😊
This was EXTREMELY helpful! As a visual person, I have a super hard time understanding all these notes, and text-based charts, but your graphics were so helpful! Whenever we strategise Pokemon, hubby and I have to work together to handle different parts of it we're good at, but this makes both our lives so much easier! Especially now that we're trying to play ALL of the old games and port them over to Bank/Home and resetting those games and doing it again for version exclusives before it's too late to do so!
So glad this helped!
@@PKMNcast Thanks! Hubby and I subscribed, and we'll subscribe on our shared TV-use account too! 🙂
Bruh, literally so happy to find my shiny ditto yesterday in Crystal. Literally my first Ditto I’ve ever caught on my own from any Pokémon game :D
Congrats sweet
This light-hearted video is exactly what I needed today. Thank you
Totally understand and happy to help!
Thanks for the guide! I just hatched a shiny miltank!
🙌🙌🙌
The reason I like this method over the Mesuda method even though it is far more time indusive is the feeling of having actually properly breeding shinies compared to just a lothrithmic code, though I’m curious how introducing more shinies into the chain could potentially effect outcomes and probabilities. Also key feature is reading step ratios.
An informative, easy to understand vid, Steve. No dancing around the bush here ;)
Ha
Super helpful guide, thanks for making this!
This was some cool info to learn! Thanks Steve! Keep making content like this!
Will do!
This was great information and easy to watch all the way through. Good content! I play GSC on my 3ds more than anything so I'll definitely spend sometime figuring this out!
This is really cool! You explained it really well, thank you Steve!
No problem!!
Omg thanks for the guide! This will make stuff easier for me
Happy to help!
This video explains this method very well. I was confused before. Congrats on stantler
Happy to help!
It's been 3 years since you planned this! I'm glad we finally get that Crystal breeding video! Thank you for this guide! lol
I eventually came through!
I always LOVE your content, i cant wait for tomorrow! I miss your streams!!!!!
Thank you Dai
Thanks for the info Steve. Great video. You deserve more subscribers and likes!!!
Thank you ☺️
I already gave up on my quest of finding the shiny Ditto in Pokémon Gold. After 3 to 4 days of 8 hour sessions of looking for the shiny Ditto I tried the Shiny Gyarados and female Ekans breeding. However after that method gave me a box full of non shiny Ekans I gave up. I agree with you that you should not shiny hunt in these games. When I was trying to find videos on how to catch a shiny Ditto there were only videos on how to do the Ditto glitch. So I am glad you made this video and that it exists. So thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Love this video Steve! very informative, easy to understand, and follow. Fortunately, I already have a male shiny Ekans from the game corner in VC Gold. Im going to take that shiny male ekans and breed for a shiny Miltank and Female Snubbull! Thanks!
Let me know how it goes!
Thanks for the great info! Now I want to hop back in to crystal to continue my miltank hunt
Good luck getting her!
This was awesome!
Thanks Steve this was really helpful!
No problem!! 😄
When I saw this I said NO WAY!! Thank you Steve!!! I Love you man!!!
No problem! I hope it helps!!
I subbed just because this video was so easy to follow.
Thank you so much!!
I don't have Crystal but its always interesting to learn about the deeper mechanics of Pokemon
It’s a really cool way to breed! I kind of like matching egg groups, but 99% of people just use a Ditto.
@@PKMNcast egg groups have always been super fascinating to me in Pokemon, I remember liking to find weird combos of Pokemon that could breed as a kid
Things I wish I had known 21 years ago...
I got my shiny Pichu like this in ~25 eggs. Thank you so much for this video!
You're welcome!!
I always have trouble understanding the shiny gene -- thanks for the video!
No problem!!
Man I wish I’d known this yearsss ago when I played crystal on my gba. My internal battery is dead on my game cartridge. But this was great information! I have the crystal emulator on my tablet. Thank you!
Thank you so much Andrea! Good luck!
Thank you professor Steve, I'm so excited to put my daddy Gyarados to work!
😂
This is one of the best tutorials I’ve seen for this. Makes a lot of sense how you explained it, thanks for making the video, helps a lot.
I’m not sure if it was mentioned in the video, but certain Pokemon have a 100% rate of being a certain gender (such as Tauros being male or Blissey female), if you manage to get a shiny Tauros then you can get a guaranteed male, with a high shiny chance.
Thank you! As for the male stuff, I briefly covered that with Jynx being "easier" to get due to only being female, but gender rules in Gen 2 are very similar to current games. For example, only way to get more Tauros would be to use a Ditto. Should have spent an extra minute on that though!
@@PKMNcast you are right about that, I should’ve thought about it a bit more. Shame that Ditto is only the only Pokemon you can use to get male exclusives. I wasn’t positive if it was possible to get with boosted odds or not, but I thought I’d bring it up.
super helpful guide and explainer on how breeding works -- trying to get a purple Charizard (playing on a emulator + used a GameShark to spawn Charmanders into the world). thanks man!
Extremely helpful considering I'm gunning for a miltank in the first place
Thanks for making this video dude, I subbed. I’ll still breed for the Shiny Phanpy in Crystal though lol
Thank you so much!!
Very informative and awesome video. I started to breed my shiny male gyarados with my female dragonite at 22:31 play time. Now I’m at 176:44 and both of them are level 100 in the daycare. They were 45 and 61 when I put them in. Spent this entire time hatching dratini eggs. Will be well worth it once I finally get a shiny one...eventually
Dang, you went with a long hatch cycle with dragon eggs! I hope you got the Shiny!! Please keep me updated!
I finally got it yesterday. Haha. 247 hours overall spent hunting it
I love your videos have the best day
Daddy Gyarados is my new favorite shiny Pokemon

While I planned things out before watching this video, I plan to use the same method you are describing to get a shiny Eevee. Of course Shiny Female Eevee don't exist in Gen 2, but they can still carry the gene. Of course with Eevee's higher male ratio, that will be more difficult.
It's worth noting that the DVs that comprise the shiny gene in a Pokémon are 10 Defense DVs and 2 or 10 Special DVs. The reason why the DVs being 2 can also result in a carrier offspring is because when a Pokémon egg is generated, the Special DVs can be two different DVs with the same modulo to 8. Finding a gene carrier in the wild is about 1 out of 128 as well, not taking into accounting that wild battles probably use certain generation methods that might limit DV spreads.
This was great, I was able to get a shiny goldeen within 40 eggs, and a shiny chinchou within 30 eggs all in one day.
Subscribed cause your videos are very helpful and I appreciate them a lot.
After watching I encountered a random shiny female Nidoran and I was wondering if I breed it with a regular male will I have a chance on hatching either male or female Nidoran or will the possible shiny be only with the hatched females? Thank you
Happy to help!!
I'm gonna get that shiny Dunsparce with Zap Cannon! :D Thank you!!!
I DEFINITELY didn't just waste the last week breeding ekans, wondering why I can't get a male shiny. 🤡🤡🤡🤡
I got my SHINY DUNSPARCE on 17th try! I loooove you Bro :D
🙌
One thing I noticed about running up and down through the city, if you go down the path that leads into the grass like in this video, there are 2 NPCs that have a chance to move into your path, but if you move to the right side of the area and go up and down, there’s only that one female NPC that can get in your way, who usually looks to her right (rarely does she move that way) and moves up and down and to the left. You’re less likely to be stopped at the expense of fewer steps being taken.

For anyone copming to this late, you can also try to start with a shiny pokemon from the Odd Egg. Its only in crystal, but that egg has a 14% chance of producing a shiny and can be a good early game option and might require less passthroughs. And if youre trying to shiny hunt that egg remember to save before you retrieve the egg.
Just Hatched a ✨Male Eevee using this Method only the 2nd 🥚 on Crystal Version 🍾
Hello! Thanks for the video! Amazing! Could you give an example of shiny gene stats from a freshly hatched egg? Just so I know the shiny gene has been passed down? Or is it guaranteed? Many Thanks
Main way to check is to put the Pokémon in the daycare and see if they are “beaming with energy”
Online none explained this and all said gold and silver never crystal now this confirms how to do it and how it is possible in crystal
Thx :)
For my pokemon crystal shinylocke, i started by soft resetting for a shiny cyndaquil, then when i headed to the daycare i caught all the pokemon that i needed and made sure they were the opposite gender of my cyndaquil (wich means female bc it's impossible to have a male shiny cyndaquil) and bred them with him wich made the eggs a 1/128 shiny chance... But it still took 4328 tries to get the cyndaquil
I soft reset for a shiny Cyndaquil, which I got fairly quickly. I used that to get a shiny gene female Eevee, and now I’m trying to get a shiny Male Eevee, as due to how DV’s work, only male Eevees can be shiny. It should be a 1/64 chance because of Eevees 1/8 gender ratio.
If this wasn’t about Pokémon I’d definitely fall asleep but great info Steve
It's a lot of information!
@@PKMNcast ya don’t say
Hi, thank you for making this video! How many eggs did it take for you to hatch shiny Stanler?
Oh! I was about 65!!
I'm playing Crystal version on an emulator for reference and have a question. Would your flowchart example work for getting better odds to hatch a shiny Eevee? Like for example could I start with the red Gyarados male and female Ekans to hatch a normal female Ekans. Then proceed using that hatched normal female Ekans with a newly caught normal male Ekans to breed for another normal male Ekans. Then, if I'm understanding the chain properly, use that hatched normal male Ekans with a female Eevee (from Bill) to get the better odds of a shiny? I want to try getting one for my let's play of crystal on here.
Going to copy and paste from another one for Eevee, but it should work as following:
Put your current Eevee in daycare with a Ditto until you get a female Eevee. Then put Female Eevee in day with male Ekans carrying Shiny Gene. Gene will then pass to Female Eevee offspring from those two. Then take both out, put new Female Eevee in daycare (with shiny gene) with any male Field egg group Pokemon. Then that will pass Shinyness to any NEW Male Eevee being born.
Wow only if I knew this back then in the day, I use to always breed for egg moves so my Pokémon teams would have the moves I wanted on them. I remember I ran into a shiny magikarp in dragons den when fishing. I also did the gen 1 shiny ditto glitch and made my mew shiny.
I watched this with auto captions on. Shiny Atkins, shiny beckons :)
finally i found a tutorial without the shiny ditto with a VC. I play on a emulator and this tutorial works very well, today i hatched a shiny ekans and a shiny vulpix :D
So happy to help!!
how did u get shiny vulpix? how does it work i still dont get it if i hatch egg gyardos and ekans i have 50% to gyardos and 50% to be ekans?
@@Lifelimit94 The chain starts with the red gyarados, It needs to be male. Then, breed that red gyarados with a female (in this case) ekans. The combination of a shiny male gyarados and a female ekans have a 1/128 chance of getting from a egg a shiny female ekans (If you dont want a shiny ekans, just breed the gyarados and the ekans until a normal female ekans hatches from the egg). Then, breed the female with a random male ekans to get a male ekans (It doesn't need to be shiny). Now you can use that male ekans to have a 1/128 chance to hatch any female shiny you want (It is the simple chain, theres more complicated chains in order to get to the other egg groups such as grass or bug
@@mikuriii1792 wait u are saying that after i hatch female ekand(not shiny) i have to catch male ekans to breed with female hatched ekans? Caue she was made of shiny gyarados, her blood is shiny aswell now?
@@Lifelimit94 Exactly!
idk if this is mentioned in comments yet, but suppose you had the doduo or dodrio tower in stadium 2 to speed things up, then is it considerably more worth it?
The problem is those games don't transfer up to Gen 3 due to the hardware limits. I was playing the VC version of Crystal here.
Hey I am curious so when I get an egg from the day care man and when I pass through a decade hatching the egg as I do this when the day care man does not have another egg ready I like to soft reset the game so I don't have to pay when I get my Ekans and Gyarados out. Does that in anyway shape or form effect some kind of chain?
So if I understand correctly, you don't need hatched pokemon to actually be shiny for them to carry the shiny gene? As long as they are the opposite gender of the shiny/shiny gene carring parent, they carry it aswell ?
If I had to make an Ekans with the shiny gene from the shiny Gyrados, I can stop at the first female Ekans I get ?
That's how it is! It worked for me!
I had no idea that breeding in gen 2 was like this. I always thought it was normal odds just like the other games this is crazy.
No clue if you're still answering questions from this but i want to hatch a shiny mantine. So i want to breed a Gyarados and a Dratini in the dragon group. The problem is that you cant get Dratini early in GS so can i trade over dratini 2 dratini from RBY a male and female and use them as my "Wild" Dratini? Also isnt it better for example to end up breeding the shiny hoppip in your vid by just going another step to breed just between hoppip instead of snubull and hoppip?
I started shiny egg hunting for Eevee in Gold, having my Umbreon (that was an Eevee from Bill) and a regular Ditto breed. Considering that my Umbreon is male and obviously can't breed with a male shiny Ekans, can you explain how the possibilities of hatching a shiny Eevee would work in my case?
Btw, I love how you made a vid on shiny egg hunting without a shiny Ditto in Gen 2, I always try to obtain thing without using cheats or glitches
You would need a Female Eevee with the Shiny Gene and any other Pokemon in the field egg group.
@@PKMNcast Gotcha, thanks! I wanted to get a female Ekans from the Game Corner but I've only got males. But I managed to get another Ditto so I could start getting shiny female Ekans once I get a normal female Ekans :D
I’m on the hunt for shiny pokemon from the generation of introduction. I use manips, I find the set up process fun, getting the last of gen 2 with this method after cute charming heart gold
Just hit for a shiny ekons in 39 egg hatches, going for eevee now
Absolutely fantastic way of explaining things, but I have one little question that I have regarding this method:
So, like the example says, we breed our male gyarados with the female Ekans to produce a female Ekans with the shiny gene. Does that mean the Ekans itself is shiny? Or does a non-shiny pokemon with a shiny parent still carry the gene?
Any Female Ekans coming from the Male Shiny Gyarados *can* be Shiny, but ALL Females (in this situation) will have the Shiny Gene! So you are correct!
@@PKMNcast Fantastic! So pokemon can carry the shiny gene without necessarily having to be shiny themselves, just as long as it's the opposite gender of the parent originally carrying the gene?
The 1 thing gen 2 offers that later games doesnt is the duplicated glitch. It may takr a little longer to get a shiny charmander in gen 2... but when i get 1. I can have as many as i want and they arent hacked so they will go to pokemon home and able to use in any game.
does every opposite gender egg hatch carry the shiny DV gene from the one shiny parent? or are we supposed to check a stat?
With the shiny ditto. Is it better to use female cyndaquil or male cyndaquil for breeding? Are the odds the same either way or is there a difference
Great video! Will this work in Silver?
Yes it will!
@@PKMNcast sweet! Thanks!
It’s a little more tedious if you want egg move(s)… this is why I don’t want to breed to get leech seed on shiny chicorita because I have a full shiny DTQ team to breed up.
That spinning shiny hoppip needs to be a gif. XD
I just hatched shiny ekans in 23 eggs only! Goodness that was fuckin fast!🐍✨
Nice!!
@@PKMNcast i also tried to use the ekans and stantler breeding which you did! It actually worked! But the problem I didn't save it i forgotttt. It's so hard to breed stantler it rarely produced and egg hahaha. But yeah i know i can do ita gain because it actually happened on 91st egg! Thanks man you gave me motivation! I just saw you yesterday on my recommendation and i found out that you're the best speaking of breeding in gen 2 well explained!
When you say shine gene, is the pokemon shiny or does it have the shiny gene? Also, how do you know if a pokemon has the shiny gene without it being shiny? Or is it automatic that the opposite gender offspring of a shiny will have the shiny gene?
If you put two Pokemon in the daycare and talk to them outside, if they are "BEAMING with Energy," then you know both Pokemon have the "shiny gene!" Two with the "Shiny Gene" cannot breed, but you can check this way.
Been trying to hatch a shiny Squirtle with this method, but I'm about 80 eggs and a week in and I still don't have my shiny. What I'm wondering is, if you save before the old man is out in the yard, are you able to simply soft reset after every 5 eggs every time, or do you have to just keep hatching until you get a shiny? I would rather not deal with gen 2 box switching lol.
If you save you before old man leaves house, technically the DVs are rolled when he shows up, so that should work. If you save after he's standing there, the DVs are determined at that point, so it sounds like you are doing it correctly.
Are you going for male Squirtle with a female carrying shiny gene or? Because remember, that Squirlte is more likely to be male, therefore you'd want a female to pass to newly born male Squirlte.
@@PKMNcast actually, because Squirtle has a 1/8th gender ratio, the way DVs work, only a male Squirtle can be shiny, so the female parent needs to be a shiny gene Squirtle.
@@PKMNcast this is the info I was looking for tysm
One hunt I’m planning to do is for shiny tyrogue. I have a female shiny elekid (soon to be electabuzz) and a tyrogue I got when trying to hatch shinies from multiple odd eggs. Would this work to get a shiny tyrogue? Or would I have to soft reset for the gift tyrogue later in the game?
So does this method work with the starters too? I've cracked almost 100 eggs now and no shiny Chikorita T-T
So I shiny hunted a cyndaquil at the start. Does that mean I can use it and any field mon to shiny hunt with a 1/128 (potentially 1/64) chance?
Yes! You could put male Shiny Cyndaquil in daycare with any Field Egg group Female Pokemon and have a 1/128 chance of a female Pokemon coming from whomever you put in, so for example male Shiny Cyndaquil + female random Rattata = Shiny female Rattata baby!
@@PKMNcast Awesome thanks for getting back to me!
If I wanted to make the breeding process faster could I take a female stantler that came from the shiny gene ekans and the non shiny female stantler and breed it with a male stantler from the wild?
I was wondering if this would be able to produce a shiny. I have a shiny female ekans that I breed with a random male ekans for a non shiny but shiny gene male ekans. After that I breed my shiny gene male ekans with a female vulpix for a non shiny shiny gene vulpix. After that I breed that vulpix with a random male vulpix for a male shiny gene vulpix , then I finally bread that with a female vulpix. (The reason I re breed the vulpix was so I had a higher chance of spawning eggs because when both of your Pokémon are breeding if they are both the same species eggs spawn quicker. ) can this produce a shiny?
Any luck with that?
i personally can only recommend shiny breeding in g/s/c if you have a physical copy and have stadium 2 to both use oaks lab for checking eggs to make knowing you have a shiny easier and dodrio gb tower for speed up (if your willing to invest in a gba/gb rom / save dumper you can also use that and a hacked 3ds to get your pokemon into bank etc. easily
Can you combine this method with the Masuda one? And does it only work for Gen 2 or also in e.g. Gen 5 as well?
Masuda Method wasn’t a thing until Gen 4
Awesome video :) i have a quick question if anyone knows please , if i put the female ekans carrying the shiny gene with a male ekans that also has the shiny gene would that impact the odds or not ?
can you breed for a shiny cyndaquil without a shiny ditto?
About 20 years ago, when I was a kid, I played Pokémon Silver in Japanese, even though I don't speak the language (at the time I didn't even know English, as my first language is Portuguese, let alone Japanese! lol I still know nothing of Japanese, though) and with a bunch of notes where I drew the names of items, moves and other important stuff in Japanese as they showed in the game and then based on what each did after testing everything when taking notes, I wrote down in English (based on what I already knew from Pokémon Blue I had already beaten in English as well as the anime) and sometimes in Portuguese. Using these dozens of notes I made, I played through the game and on my first visit to Mt. Silver, on my way to challenge Red, I encountered my very first shiny of all time, a shiny Rapidash. I had no idea what shines were at the time. All I knew was that I had just found a strangely-colored Rapidash that I thought was maybe a bug. I caught it. Several years later I came to realize, once I learned about shinies, that the Rapidash I had caught was in fact a shiny Pokémon.
Ever since then I've been longing to get either a shiny Ponyta or another shiny Rapidash on my English games but I never found one again. Even trying some breeding via the Masuda method on SoulSilver and X, a few years back, but to no avail. I am currently playing through Crystal again (been for a while, now) on the Virtual Console and emulator (I'm using the same save file from the 3DS on the emulator on the PC when I don't really feel like having the 3DS on or it is charging or I just want to quickly grind up for levels, so I can do that at fast speed on the emulator, but nothing else besides that) and ever since I made it to Mt. Silver on Crystal I have been trying to find a shiny Ponyta/Rapidash in the area. After finding this video today I gave this method a try on my copy of Crystal and to my luck, after about 20 years and only 15 Ponyta eggs (on this attempt. Previous attempts on other games went well beyond 300 eggs or more), I finally hatched a shiny Ponyta on the 16th egg! :D I shall now try this method with a few other of my favorite Pokémon, too. My shiny Japanese Rapidash is still alive in its Silver cartridge, by the way. I just don't know for how much longer the save battery in that thing will last. Once that dies, so will my very first shiny. :'(
Thank you for putting this out there, my dude! I just finally realized a about 20 years old dream of having a shiny Ponyta/Rapidash on an American version of the games, as well.
Me again. I just used this method on Crystal on my Game Boy Color and this time I got a shiny Ponyta on the very first egg!
So if i breed red gyrados and horsea, do i even need to do the flow chart? Or is the 1/128 already set with red gyrados and a female horsea
so do i need to breed till the offspring is shiny if i just what to pass the shinyness? IE female ekans does it need to be shiny before can pass the gene off to a male ekans to move on? or do i just need to hatch a female ekans with out it being shiny then use that one and a new wild one to get a male with the geane? to move on to other pokemon?
hi! is it possible to produce a shiny eevee with this method? it's a little confusing for me, because only male eevees can be shiny.
Yes, Female Eevee would need to be in the Daycare as the mom and have the Shiny gene. The male could be whatever.
@@PKMNcast thank you!
Why the second breeding step (Ekans x Ekans) cannot be with a male "son" from Gyarados? They won't produce eggs? Or it has something to do with the shiny genes?
Technically, you don’t need to go out and catch a fresh parent. A male Ekans for example will not be able to inherit the stats of Papa Garydos, so male born Ekans can be bred with the shiny gene female born Ekans to produce a new shiny gene male born Ekans.
love you
So at what point do I need to reset? Do I grab the egg and then hatch it and then reset to before I picked the egg up to try again for a shiny? Do I just leave the Pokémon in the day care until they produce another egg and repeat?
Keep biking around for more eggs. The shiny egg will come eventually
What if you breed two shinning gyrados? Then whats the percentage or chart for that
