    Turbo Tools v3 is available from:
    3dillusions.gumroad.com/l/tur...
    blendermarket.com/products/tu...
    Turbo Tools v3 is a massive update with many new features and improvements. The most notable is the new temporal stabilizer, which in combination with the new option to optimise the sample pre-sets for animations, will allow you to render Cycles animations by as much as 40x faster!
    Special thanks to Ivo Wejgaard for providing the excellent test renders and artwork, and also to Alex Weinberg for the office test scene and renders.
    Alex's portfolio can be found at : www.AlexRWeinberg.com
    Spaceman available from: blendermarket.com/products/sp...
    Annoyingly CZcams has reduced the video quality quite dramatically with it's own flicker removal, making it difficult to see the effectiveness, but if you select the 4k option you should still see the improvement, particularly at 5:50 and 7:49 . Chapter list below:
    0:10 What is a temporal stabilizer for?
    0:34 More about the spaceman scene
    0:44 How fast is Turbo Render?
    1:32 Spaceman!
    1:46 The scene that makes denoisers shudder!
    2:02 How many samples did Neat Video need to produce a good result with this scene?
    2:13 How long does it take to render the 2500 samples Neat Video needed?
    2:25 The goal of the video
    2:39 Is it difficult to set up for temporal stabilization?
    3:14 New animation option to optimize sample presets for animations
    3:28 Choosing a good sample preset
    4:10 The result of a 1 min Turbo Render
    4:27 launch the stabilizer!
    5:31 Temporalized 1min render vs Untemporalized 1min render
    5:50 17 hour render denoised and stabilised with Neat Video vs 48 minute render denoised and stabilised with Turbo Tools
    7:23 High sample preset vs Very High (production quality) sample preset
    7:49 How does the stabilizer cope with EXTREME flicker? (thankfully so extreme that CZcams processing was unable reduce it significantly! This is close to how the flicker actually looked during the rest of the video before youtube had a go at it! )
    8:02 Does it work with existing compositor setups?
    8:43 Is it non destructive?
    9:06 Stabilizing individual passes!
    9:25 Can you stabilize Cache so that expensive nodes don't need to recalculate during publishing?
    9:59 Can you stabilize multiple scenes and viewlayers at once?
    10:58 Caveats

    Hey there, was wondering how the addon works if you render everything on multiple machines? Do I have to send the renders to the farm, everything is rendering and after it is finished I reopen my REnderfile and hit "publish animation" to temporal deflicker it on 1 machine?
    Thanks for your time and effort.

    • @3d-illusions
      @3d-illusions  Před rokem

      Hi, yes that's exactly right. Garage.farm has support for the addon, I'm not sure which other farms (they have to send back the cache folder). Once you have it back, then you just point the file at the cache folder, and then publish. The blend file you're publishing in has to have the same scene and viewlayer names for the cache to load properly.
      I also tested on colab the other day, and that works too. I did need to modify the command line script I provide for it to work correctly. I'll share it once I've simplified it a bit.

    How does this compare to using SID for denoise and Davinci Resolve's temporal denoiser for flicker?

    • @3d-illusions
      @3d-illusions  Před rokem

      This uses a lot more logic than alternatives (8000 lines of code!) so that it can keep renders not only extremely high quality, but also as fast as possible. For the temporal system, this takes advantage of 3D data to assist it, I’m not sure if resolve does that, but I’d imagine it’s just a 2d system.
      This also has a lot more to it. I’d recommend checking out the turbo vs the classroom scene video for a look at some of the other stuff the addon also does 👍

      @3d-illusions  Před rokem +2

      For anyone else that experiences this issue, the problem turned out to be a bug with Blender which breaks the vector pass if the camera is set to panoramic/fisheye. I've reported a bug to Blender here: developer.blender.org/T99823 . Until the Blender dev's have had time to fix it, you can avoid the issue by setting the camera to perspective and then add the fisheye effect in the compositor using a lens distortion node instead 👍

    Hey man, I just came across this video and thought I would ask a question before I consider purchasing Turbo Tools.
    I currently have a MacBook Pro 2021 with an M1 Max Chip and 64GB Ram. I am currently working on a project which I intend to render out at 4k Resolution and each frame takes about 15 minutes, would Turbo Tools help with speeding the render time up? There are a lot of different complex and high poly objects in the scene.
    Many thanks in advance :)

    • @3d-illusions
      @3d-illusions  Před rokem +1

      You should certainly see a gain, but the extent of that gain is dependant on how populated the individual passes are. For example if only the diffuse direct pass has data on it, then there won't be much a multipass denoiser can work with, but if there's lots of indirect lighting and reflections etc, such as an indoor scene, then you'll get a much larger gain. I regularly get emails from people letting me know that it's reduced 12 hour single frame renders down to less than 10 mins per frame.
      Basically the addon provides a speed up because it's denoiser is able to successfully denoise noisier images that the standard denoisers can. This effectively means you can lower the samples, which provides a speed up. So start with the crap sample preset and work your way up if necessary. Avoid enabling the animation option on the high or above sample presets due to a blender adaptive sampling issue that introduces noise patterns the AI denoisers mistake as intentional (results in swirly artefacts, covered in the troubleshooting section too)

    I'm also using a 1070, I'm mainly rendering animations and using the high/very high preset. It gives me a good render time (3-5 minutes) so I can now use cycles. Although it is about 2 minutes slower than Eevee, it is worth it because without the tool it is well over 10 minutes. So it is usually using 648 samples, giving a great result with the enhanced texture feature. However, the temporal flicker remover doesn't always give me optimal results and often affects objects I don't want it to. Perhaps it's because I have motion blur enabled, but I don't like adding motion blur in post. I'm using the Flicker Free 2.0 Addon which allows me more freedom in what area I want to remove the flicker from, maybe thats also possible within the compositor but since I already have it and use Premiere anyway it is just now the workflow. So in combination it gives great results.

    • @3d-illusions
      @3d-illusions  Před 2 lety +3

      Turbo Tools provides things like, ability to render for shorter amounts of time due to the advanced denoising system called turbo render, compositor caching, non destructive temporal stabilisation, real-time compositing, and publishing + lots more. Another big difference is that Turbo Tools is an addon, so you can use it with any official compatible version of Blender, whereas the other options you mention are different version of Blender entirely. Some people are using Turbo Tools with E-Cycles and K-Cycles by the way, but I don't guarantee full compatibility with them.

      Hi, yes the one addon automatically creates a multilayer exr for caching purposes. It even saves out individually denoised passes if you set it to ultra (just the passes that build the combined passes get denoised). This can reduce file size enormously due to the lack of noise. You can also choose to publish out to an exr if you need a certain naming convention or order, this will also allow the individual passes to be stabilised (not alpha or data of course)

I am finding out those are tough to render with the current version of cycles in blender even with my high end 4070 ti card. I have 3,000 frames for it since it is a slower animation walk through. @@adameskoo additionally, each scene and any passes you have enabled in those scenes, will also get automatically output as a multilayer EXR. That means you can set blender's own output to something very light such as ffmpg. You can use those EXR's (otherwise known as the render layer cache) in a third party compositor, or in Blender's compositor (where they get automatically loaded in each frame by the Turbo Comp portion of the addon).
      Another benefit is in Ultra denoise mode, Turbo Tools EXR render layer cache can be up to 30x smaller than the multilayer EXR produced by Blender's own output. This is because Ultra mode saves the denoised passes into the EXR, whereas Blender only saves the denoise combined pass, and the noise on the other passes is a major contributor to file size.

Of course if your renders are already below 20 seconds, then you wouldn't get much of a speed up, only better quality thanks to the enhance details option. The addon will offer the biggest speed up on scenes that take over a minute to render without the addon, for example in the gtx1070 vs the rtx 4090 video I reduce the render time from 10 mins without the addon to between 30 seconds and 2 mins (depending on the quality I need).

    • @3d-illusions
      @3d-illusions  Před rokem

      Hi, yes, certain elements aren't suitable for stabilisation (covered in the manual link below). For this reason the addon has selective stabilisation, which allows you to only stabilise the suitable elements, rendering the unsuitable elements separately so that they can still take advantage of the 3 to 5x faster rendering speeds (although with fur in particular, samples may need to be kept a bit higher because of how few pixels each strand covers).
      So my approach would be to render the fur separately in a second scene in the same blend file, using a higher sample pre-set for just that scene so that it doesn't need to be stabilised, and then only stabilise the suitable elements by selecting the render layer nodes you want to be stabilised before clicking publish. It'll still render quickly because the rest of the scene won't be rendered in the second scene. I demonstrate selective stabilisation towards the end of this video if you're not sure how to do it 👍
