Building a WINDOW with 3 Huge TVs
Vložit
- čas přidán 21. 11. 2022
- In this video I make a huge, full-size tv wall and use it as a window to anywhere in the world. This TV window is made of three 75" 4k tvs that work together to display one 12' image. The TV's are framed into the wall to make them look as much like a real window as possible. Great idea to lighten up a dark basement or office with an amazing view. In the future I'd like to be able to watch movies, play games and have a live video feed of my backyard that I can use as a window 24/7.
Contest details:
This contest is not associated or endorsed by CZcams in anyway.
Winner must find all six 4-digit codes throughout the video and message them to me on instagram @drewbuildsstuff in the format:

Think some sheer curtains would make it feel more like a window if that's what you're actually going for. Definitely think you should give it a try
Totally agree with this. You will loose a little bit of viewing area but it will really add to the authenticity.
omg, automatic blinds that roll up after the screens have turned on and loaded the video so as to not break the illusion!
Curtains are a good idea. Overuse of this 'window' could drive a person insane. The bare black screen might be even worse. But how about nighttime scenes. Moon and stars like at the planetarium, with a fire burning low in the forground. The red embers make you sleepy. Time to close the curtains.
@@gmw3083 I highly doubt it would drive anyone insane.
@@Mawyman2316 I contend that many don't have far to go to reach that destination.
I have watched almost every video , from the doghouse to the spa to the tiny home on wheels to the backyard spa. As a retired mechanical engineer who turns 70 in March I must say: I like your creativity and willingness to do new things. Congratulations for having a real interesting channel. I’d rather watch this content than anything on television.
I never thought i'd love black clauk so much, looks great!! .......
19:10 This bit sent me to the floor…and I was lying down.😅
But seriously, you are a man of great value. Big up to you.✊🏾

I IMMEDIATELY paused the video and came to the comments for this. LOL!!!!!!
I had to PAUSE, click PAUSE and say PAUSE at the same time 🤣🤣🤣
same. lol
How did u get tv in sync
having the window show a fantasy or sci fi scene would be cool. that way you could feel like you're in your favourite book or tv show.
Endless possibilities!
I could imagine a Halo Infinite background or Westeros background!
The "Blade Runner" city-scape would be amazing.
Imagine playing a D&D campaign and being able to show matching videos in the background.
The 'Scenery Channel' from Back to the Future II would be cool.
Not sure what’s the most amazing part: the skills, the result or the tools! - this was fun to watch! Incredible work!
Wonderfully produced and edited, in addition to being so clear and understandable. I never watch 25 minute CZcams videos, but yours was so well paced, funny, and educational that I couldn’t turn away.
Like others, I’d be interested if you manage to develop a “live view” through the camera and video processors. For shut-ins, something like this would be a blessing.
i fast forwareded
Impressive detail and craftsmanship! I bet pairing this with a Dolby Atmos soundtrack and speakers would really enhance the illusion.
OMG imagine this with OLED tvs where you don’t get all that backlight. The night scenes like the space one would look surreal
It would burn in from playing the same content nonstop. And OLED panels are a lot more fragile, so I am not sure turning it sideways would be possible.
@@FortisOne If it plays video all the time it wouldn't. Burns in only with long time persistent high contrast images like photos and UIs.
@@costafilh0 that is just not true.
@@FortisOne On modern OLEDs? With all the anti burn-in features enabled? Used with no persistent images like as a monitor, game UI or TV channel logo? I find that hard to believe. Feel free to link other examples of videos with cases of burn-in outside of those cases as a response to this comment.
@@FortisOne Yes it is. Burn in will NEVER occur on a moving image (video).
This is honestly so cool for a basement office/studio - great execution!
Thanks for watching!!
@@DrewBuildsStuff Hey you give me so many ideas you the awesome man
How did you get the video to display on the screen like that??? I work for Geek Squad and I have a client wanting to do this?
So cool! 👏
This is absolutely stunning. The scene ideas are endless. Be it mood setting for holidays, or the season of the book or tv show you’re enjoying, you could do it all.
Any chance you’d post a video showing us one or two minutes of each of the thirty scenes you have so far?
I've been searching for a video like this...every month. I'm trying to make a tv window some day myself and haven't found any videos til now. Thanks so much for sharing. It means so much. :) that looks so cool.
The quality of this video is extremely impressive. Please keep up the good work!
Thanks Isaac!
The first 3 winners of the giveaway have been notified! Thanks everyone for playing! Winners are from Finland, California and Ontario! Also beware there's tons of scammers out there using a similar name and my profile photo saying you've won a prize or similar. I only have two social accounts, this one and my @drewbuildsstuff Instagram. Just an FYI. I wish CZcams would solve the problem already.
Use an Nvidia graphics card to be able to output to 3 monitors, but have them treated as one. There's even bezel correction (for the gap made by the frame). You would need any cheap Nvidia card with 3 display outputs (they typically have DisplayPort, HDMI, and DVI ports, all of which can run perfectly with a cheap little HDMI converter to be compatible with your setup
You should use 'Nvidia Surround', you can make all 3 displays come up as 1 single display. It would take a lot of the hassle out of it as it's normally used by people doing multi-monitor gaming. This project is awesome by the way.
Edit: This will also allow to you to adjust for the border size between each display making it ever so slightly more convincing as a spaceship window :D. Could also allow remote access on the windows box for the TVs so you don't have to go back there to change things.
I was wondering if you could replace most windows in a house like this. I’ve searched but couldn’t find anyone who did. I wonder if the energy saved from heat loss/gain would, over time, pay for the install and operating cost. It would be interesting if you could connect the tv wall to an exterior camera that would replace the scene of a real window.
Hey I was typing this as I was watching and the end that’s exactly what you are about to do. Looking forward to the results. If it works out start a business offering a plug and play. I have a room that needs lighting up with a new window and don’t want to cut hole in the wall.
I got my Scam email saying I was a winner 😡 today
Omg! This is incredibly cool on so many levels. Beautiful job on your office. The tranquility and peace that these spectacular views provide is mind-blowing. I want one! Please continue with this work of art. And, I believe you can display works of art in each frame as well. I'm so dang envious of your skills Drew! You are the master!
This is the first video of yours that I've seen. Well-versed in tech, carpentry and design, you are one all-around super talented individual.
I remember there being a video somewhere of someone who did this, but also hooked up a Kinect sensor for tracking where in the room he was. That way, he was able to integrate parallax into the view, and it was pretty incredible what that one small change made. Obviously, however, it only worked well if there was only 1 person in the room haha.
I'd love to see that video. Can you post a link?
@@iliketowatch. czcams.com/video/V2hxaijuZ6w/video.html
It's called winscape, just search that on yt, I bet putting the link will hold my comment for review.
Definitely should do that.
Tonnes of people have done that.
I was excited to see this. Several years ago, I had the idea of making a widow frame around a tv on the wall such that it looked like a window to the outside. I also wanted a web cam sending real time images, so that as it became dark outside the tv image would be in sync with the real windows. I could never get my wife to follow the idea, so I couldn’t wait to show her your beautiful work. We are both impressed with your skill and vision.
Or, just install a window in your wall.
You made her watch this? 😯 Man what were you thinking? You understand now that your lady is expecting nothing less than a 3 * 75" 4K TVs window.. right?🙈

Seeing you use the different caulks, perfectly applied, was amazing to watch. Using black caulk on the bottom bead was unexpected and it made me a big black caulk fan.

I love the idea and the result. I would have looked at removing the gap between the tv's as closely as possible.
I agree. If he ever does get it set up for TV, video games, etc., the current "window frame" gap between screens would be a real turnoff.
Best project I've seen on youtube, how crazy!!
Excellent build! One thing that I thought about, how much heat do all those TV's put off? In an enclosed space that might become an issue. Maybe it would be worth adding some nice Noctua fans or something to keep them cool?
Ventilation was on my mind too
Absolutely will be an issue over time. The vents are in the top of the panel and turning them vertical cuts off the ventilation for rising heat. Screen could get splotchy or unevenly burn in over time
Probably fine. It's a vanity build anyway.
Nobody’s gonna run triple 75” TVs on a regular basis anyway, just because of power usage.
I was thinking he needed to pump that heat into the area above with the drop ceiling, instead he drywalled it. Get at least a few PC case fans pulling air though!
This is legitimately one of the coolest builds I've seen on CZcams. I almost wish I had a dark basement so I had an excuse to replicate this in my house. Well done sir!
This idea is 30 years old 🥱 czcams.com/video/w6uqxay2xts/video.html
This is amazing. I'd have loved to see your parents reactions to what you did with the room. Solid work all around
Yes, Ive dreamed about doing this for years. I'd like to make a portable window for people who live in the basement, with different scenes, scents, heating and air, just like a real window!
Yep...me to! It's good to show his method of achieving this.
Clever trick editing the video files. Another method that should work well is a PC with a dedicated graphics card, then configure AMD Eyefinity or NVIDIA Surround depending which gpu you go with. This should make the OS think you're using 1 monitor instead of the 3. You might need a displayport to hdmi 2.0 adapter. I haven't used Eyefinity in a while but it was pretty good when i tested it years ago.
Ya I’ve had a few people comment that, I’ll give it a try. Thanks for watching!
@@DrewBuildsStuff The issue with this suggestion, as you probably know well, is that it will just divide up the video and not look right for things passing between the monitors as it won't reflect the fact that there is a gap between them.
a video matrix would be easier and not require a a dedicated pc
@@curtisbme Nvidia surround can do bezel correction
@@oliverroedschler2908 Interesting. Thanks for the info!
That´s amazing, your creativity is awasome
Seriously genius. I'd love to have a window to the world on my office wall like this. Absolutely beautiful.
I wonder what this would look like on smaller wall hook up to computer for the office lol
AWESOME!!!
this is so cool i randomly found this guy and watched every single one of his videos over the course of a week and was like he is so creative and i subbed and i was recently thinking when is he gonna upload again. Keep up the great work drew i love the builds and the creativity, as well as the simple humor you put into your videos
Wow, that is actually amazing ! This build gives the room a completely different ambiance. Well done !
Someone walked in the house as he said “I’m a big black caulk guy now” and I immediately felt the need to explain myself.
Stunning build! I think we'll start to see this basic concept go mainstream in the next 10 years.
Nice! Perfect basement getaway for those Winter days and nights. Maybe hinge the sill for easier access.
Yep replace the floor with some sand and I’ve got my tropical vacation
Wow! Wow! Wow! I am so impressed and in love with the window wall. Amazing!👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Looks great, I will do the same in my flat one day. Thanks for the video! Very detailed and well explained.
awesome build! a led strip diffuse would help with the led "bright spots" under the frame, gives it a more subtle look.
It’d be pretty cool to have the displays become a virtual shelf. As a avid collector of figurines, model cars and a bunch of other stuff, it’d be funny to just have a crazy collection in my room but I don’t actually own anything.
That's awsome dude !
Okay -- this is the one of the coolest videos I have seen in months. Very well done, sir!
If someone has 4 k to play with for their mancave, then your set-up is absolutely the way to go!!
This is awesome! I really like the idea of having the feed from the camera that is mounted outside. I think that would give the most authentic feeling of having a real picture window.
Casey neistat does this…
I envy your toy collection. For example, I didn't even know an oscillating multi-tool was a thing, but it looks very useful.
I love this... Am interesting to learn this.. .
Caps jersey is the best part :)
If you want stained wood to look more even and less blotchy, first apply a coat of clear sanding sealer. This will make the wood absorb the stain more evenly, so different grain and knots don't look so dark.
Also, it would've cool if you used the same wooden figured moulding as around your other window, to reinforce the "window" idea.
I'd probably have it viewing webcams from many different cities maybe your own so I felt I was actually seeing the real outside almost like a window. very cool man! nice work too.
Wow, I am really impressed. Great job Drew.
You have a magic touch! Everything is so perfect!!
Kudos on one of the best projects I've ever seen! Absolutely fantastic!
What a transformation, impressive work Drew!
You did a really lovely job on your basement. I absolutely love it. Much Love 🙏❤️
The use of the three TV screens is genius, wow! Just watching you get alot of useful tips on constructing things, which was the same with your tiny home project. The window install with the absence of the flashing is a good example. Great video!
I'd put all this money towards moving out from under my parents instead.
That is so bad ass! I can't wait to do something similar for my living room. I really would like to see the Trench Run from Star Wars on mine.
WOW, Just WOW!
wonderful and amazingly creative!
Wow! This "Caulk" lover sure knows how to build cool things. 👍👍
Great work!
An alternative cool solution for the TVs would be the Aerial app: it's an open source project made to replicate the Apple TV's "panoramic fly by" screensavers...it comes on both Windows and Mac i believe and has plenty of options to split up and synchronize the same video over the multiple screens connected to the computer. Has loads of videos from all over the world, in 4K too.
Of course it wouldn't look like a window anymore but might be cool to change the vibe sometimes.
An ultra short throw projector would have probably made this a little easier I bet. It was still pretty cool though.
Gave me some ideas for my office. Great video!
Would the image also show on the frame though or not because its black?
Possibly but wouldn't that much short throw projector cost about 5 times more than the flat screens? Might pay back against the power demands of the flat panels.
@@keithcress1335 you got a point there.
There is some short throws that have come down in price significantly though.
I’m talking in the 1,200 - 2,400 bracket. That price is without the ALR screen though so your point is still valid.
I wonder how hot those tv’s make it?
@@DimiArhontidis would probably have to mod a ALR screen.
Could split up the backgrounds the same way but add the black border in the background themselves so the project displays black in that area.
That way the image won’t be projected onto the frame.
Still like your projector idea over a bunch of hot FP displays. I wonder if you could use conventional laser ceiling mounted projectors and get the effect for a lot less energy, money, and reduce the build complexity to just the window frame and a faux wood ceiling beam just big enough to hide diminutive projectors. I know you can get 4k ones for under $1k but they might have issues I don't recognize. Or a single $2+k unit that would ''home theater" the whole wall! Add a digital frame overlay to put in the window frame, dump it for BIG screen tv?
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ So many skills and such talent. I'm thoroughly impressed
Very nice project. It certainly put a smile on my face. Thanks for sharing!
Love your builds drew! Keep it up!
Thank you!
I don't know why but I'm loving this. This isn't a new idea, but your implementation was almost flawless. I say almost because what you're missing is just a higher powered pc. Nvidia surround or the AMD equivalent would make life so much easier for you. With three 4k tvs I would say you could definitely use the new RTX 4090 in your life if you can find one. PC gaming on 3 monitors in that orientation used to be more common before ultrawides and 4k monitors came onto the market.
This is amazing!
once again I'm blown away by your work !
Wow way too cool. I predict someday this type of window on the world will be very common.
I had this idea a few years back when exploring underground shelters. I thought if one had monitors where windows would be and cameras set up with all points covered, one could give the illusion of being above ground. And since you are literally underground/basement you have proven it would work. Very cool!
This idea is 30 years old 🥱 czcams.com/video/w6uqxay2xts/video.html
Yes, I've seen videos on CZcams that showed underground disaster shelters that include "windows" like this. The shelter designer knew that this would be important for keeping the inhabitants sane while they lived underground for an extended period of time.
This is a really fun and interesting project! Is there any issues with the recessed TV's overheating?
Really dig that you don't take the easy way out and replay a process till you have it right. Great trait to have.
This sound better as a relaxing room. It’s like going to sleep or waking up in a part of the world or session
That's magnificent Drew. I can only imagine how the northern winters are there. I live in Australia at place where winter consists of one colder day a year. Anything under 20degC, or if I have to put on socks, is too cold. Hence, I would definitely need a WINDOW TO ANYWHERE to survive your winters.
The short day light period combined with the cold is what really makes them tough. But I also don’t like extreme heat so can’t win I guess ha

Cool build Drew...Looks great 🙂
Simply breath-taking...
I am incredibly impressed!! WOW!!!!
Have you considered adding a face tracking camera to add parallax? I think it could give a really really cool effect :)
You gotta get a 3D video in there.... Maybe a roller-coaster or something. I don't know if the monitors would handle in this format a "proper/no-breaking" 3D experience with glasses, but even if they don't... with lights off and a full wall... you'd get most of the 3D experience even without glasses. I would actually stare into a ride for hours on that wall/screen :))
I also built my office in my basement, I LOVE this idea!!!
Ohhh that would be cool! Need to find a budget for a moving chair to simulate a actual ride

Looks so good! It really changed the room.
Dude, you beat me to it. I’ve been planning on doing the exact same thing for a year or so. Unfortunately we had a fire at the house and it’s slowed me down enough for you to beat me to it. I’m simply saying against anyone who said you wasted your money or time. Screw them this is awesome!! I’m glad I wasn’t the only with this vision. Only mine was bigger but using your info it will save me a bunch of time streamlining it hopefully. Kudos!!
I love it!! Good job!! You got a new lifetime sub.
Just brilliant. And creatively inspiring. Every picture was beautiful. It might be fun to have a scene of moving through space as if from the main deck of the Enterprise or something similar. Again, so well done. Saved to my "home" file for future reference.
Thanks for watching!
I always wanted to do this and use a video from space (similar to what you did on a couple of your videos), so it looks like you are looking out the window of a spaceship or International Space Station. Great job!
Really great job, thanks for sharing.❤
I love how proud of yourself you were at 15:10. I'd be proud too! I never noticed ANY numbers until you pointed the one out at the end, then I thought I'd have to go back and re watch the video to find them all, but I don't have instagram so.... Great video and great idea.

You truly are one heck of a HANDY MAN!!!!
Hi Drew, this used to be my childhood dream idea in the basement and i can't believe you made it come true! I always imagine how this would change the real estate landscapes. Love to talk more in details if we can get this into production all around the world!
If/when you upgrade the computer, remember that you'll want bezel compensation... That let's you remove the sections of video where the wood exists. This would help your 'window' look continuous behind those breaks. Right now, one column of pixels picks up where the last display left off, which kills the illusion. Maybe not so visible on nature content, but you'd notice it with almost any other type of video.
coolest thing I have ever seen yet, you are an amazingly talented guy
I love the build. It looks amazing.
Couple questions,
1. How do you do the settings to view the picture to that angle instead of the traditional way?
2. What did you do to have the video play like that on 3 different tv’s and where did you get the streaming video?
@stevenpermann2242....I have the same questions ‼️ He makes completing these projects easy, but they look like a lot of work. Specially the dog house built I just saw. Truly talented‼️ Love these TV 📺 windows and to watch sporting events, movies, etc‼️
well, im only three minutes in, so idk what he did. but i can tell you how to do it on a PC
if you have three monitors or tvs connected to your pc, you can go to settings and search for monitors
you click the "arrange multiple displays" tab and then if you have monitors plugged in, they should show up in a small window where you can drag them around and change their position and rotation (display mode>landscape/portrait/flipped landscape/flipped portrait)
hopefully this makes sense!
like i said, i have no clue how he did it yet, if he did it on the TV's settings or if he did it with a computer.
It would have been cool to put artificial daylight lights down there, I've always wondered how realistic they would feel in a dark basement
so Rod, go buy some lights and get yourself a basement...
They would be lights. Easy project. Box up some led strips behind a layer or two of diffuser panels, and have at it.
Everyone loves a Big Black Caulk.
Master craftsmanship, the best I've ever seen hands down..
