HOW ACCURATE IS YOUR ALTIMETER WATCH? vs a CERTIFIED ALTIMETERS

- I fly a Cessna 172 with an Instrument Certified Altimeter (24 months inspections), and compare it with 3 watches- The Casio SGW-1000, Casio PRW-3500 and the Suunto Core Graphite Crush. How well do these watches compare to a certified altimeter? I was very surprised how well they did.
After starting at 388 feet (118 meters) I climbed up to 10,500 feet (3200 meters). The three watches were within 50 feet (15 meters) of the Cessna Altimeter! Quite impressive for a watch that only costs about $50USD (SGW1000) and $200USD for the Suunto and PRW3500.
Altimeter watches are great for many things, but I use them mostly for hiking and flying my paramotor.

Thank you for makin this video
That was excellent! Thank you very much for making this video.
Excellent video. I'm impressed by the accuracy of the watches.
Thanks for sharing !!!
Great Video and great test :-)
Brother thanks for this cool video man. I have a Garmin Instict and want to do a test like this man. Part of your journey man... Cheers
Thank you
I love being in the plane Idk about flying lol but great video
I remember climbing a mountain once. And I was looking down onto a small plane. The mountain was 11,627ft. I wondered if they were flying low or max height. Seems either is possible? Cool video.
Good question, depends on the plane, how much weight in the plane, and temperature of atmosphere , many small planes can fly 10,000' but it takes a long f time to get there and most pilots don't bother going that high
I was thinking of getting one some time in the future if I ever get into hang gliding
The Casio PRG 270-1 is on sale at Amazon, at least at amazon.ca. It utilizes the same triple sensor as the Casio's used here. Don't forget to calibrate first. Happy trails.
Ive been looking for a test like this since I got into paramotoring recently. Thanks! I understand it uses a barometer for altitude. What I have not been able to find out is if you can zero out the ground level so that you know your height above ground. Can the watches do this?
Yes all of these watches have a function where you can measure differential altitudes. Where you would zero it out at ground level . It's very easy on all these watches, just one button push .
@@cloudzrest wait how do you zero it?
Hey. Great video. I tried the link to your ppg channel and it didnt go anywhere. I was looking at altimeter watches for ppg and found you so id love to check out some of your videos.
The advppg channel is gone, I'll put the old adv ppg videos on this channel . If there's one in particular u wanted to see I can upload it. I haven't gotten around to uploading all of them
Also thanks for telling me about the broken link I'll take it down
No prob. I found some on this channel. Ill just stay tuned. 👍
I just got an abc watch , the temperature off , not sure if I gotta set the elevation , or if it just automatically works out of the box
Temp is higher cause it's next to your body, your body is hot, the manual says to let watch rest for 20 mins to get an accurate reading
@@Ryan-pv7nw was thinking that because of body heat after awhile those owners manuals are too small to read lol , think I got the elevation set within a couple hundred feet , I’ve been enjoying my watch
@@dave33gify have the barometer readings been predicting changes in weather for you
sure 2:07 we didn't see nothing 😂
I dont know why but the video do not work!!!
