Thank you for this. I just bought a 2021 CX5 Carbon Edition and I got very intimidated by the shroud on the bottom of the chassis. WIth this video I feel more comfortable working on my car after my mechanical warranty expires
They are great SUVs, got my 2016 to nearly 300 000km with only reg maintenance, 3 rear wheel bearings, and a complete brake discs / pads job around 160k. No rust at all on the body, and I live in Quebec (snow / salt / gravel..) Wife has a 2021 CX5 and it is rock solid too
New CX5 owner and I have the NA 2.5 PF, in your video you said Na gets 0/20 does that apply for the 2022 models and what oil como is recommended. Thanks for your help and thanks for posting the video.

I would leave it on, most underpanels are for aero dynamic purposes, they allow the air to flow freely under the vehicle. There's a possibility it could cause a wind noise too.

The Mazda OEM filters are made by Denso and are very high quality. There is one other filter I like, which is the MicroGard Select. Whip City Wrencher did a video on this filter and found it to be extremely well made. Personally, I buy my OEM filters at my local Mazda dealership for around $12, but the Microgard is cheaper. Either way, you can’t go wrong. BTW, I forgot to mention the Premium Guard Extended Life filter available at O’Reilly’s, which is the same as the MicroGard Select.

easy way? if you drain the trans pan about 4.5 liters will comes out, so drain it , top off fluid , then drive about 500-1000 miles drain the pan again, change trans filter and gasket . top off fluid. that should be sufficient
The Mazda filter has no ADBV, not needed here, so most all oil will drain out of filter. I ALWAYS change filter first, less messy. I also fill the filter with oil to reduce chance of dry starting. My 'maintenance minder' was set wrong by dealer. I reset to 5000 miles. The Fram UG 7317 fits great-it's a better filter. Magnetic drain plug installed. IF necessary, turn over the drain plug gasket and re-use. I know, they don't like that but the engine doesn't care and it works.
@@Manzo98_ Provably wrong, There are many filters that are way worse than the orange can. Purolator filters have a history of torn media. Many off brand filters do not filter as well as the basic orange Fram. CZcams is full of biased opinion and fact free comments.
so for the drain plug, you always finger tighten it and then use a torque wrench to torque it to spec? 23 ft lbs. but if you dont have a torque wrench can you just use a 3/8th ratchet and do 1/4 (quarter turn) ?
Yeah, it just needs to be snug. Give a nice tightening without overdoing it. The oil filter is hand tight also. You shoulf be able to break it loose by your own strength. Or by minimal help of a tool.

10.10 I thought it only held 4 1/2 quarts after I put in five it still showed 1 quart low and had to add another half a quart to bring it up to a half a quart low, very nice video very nice shop.
For people in the military, i know there are hobby shops on base to use, a long time ago i did oil changes on the floor in my apartment parking lot. I used ramps and was carefull not to make a mess. You can buy an oil drain bucket and when you are done you can drain it for free at a autoparts store.
@@earnhardtfan77the moly products are worth the money. If you have the turbo version or plan on keeping the vehicle into the 200k range the moly products are going to help you get there in my experience. Try them out and look at the difference in the oil when you change it, the breakdown at 5k is barely noticeable.
Nice! I use the Castrol Edge in my cx3 too! It seems to burn about 1/3 of a quart between changes. It has since it was new... this seem normal? I love the car... 25k miles going strong😁

I’m learning as much as I can about Mazda coming from Toyota they actually value flow rate over filtration so you do want to use the OEM filter pick up wipes but they do offer a TRD filter which is a higher quality. Does Mazda offer anything like that that’s OEM
I bought a few of them from the Mazda dealer and they got mixed in with my golf cart filters and look exactly the same, so I thought that I had missed placed them and I was going to reuse the old filter, once I remove the filter and saw how small it was I went through my golf cart filters and sure enough I found several of them that said Mazda on them, the filters I got from the dealer were made in Mexico, I called the dealer and wanted the ones made in Japan if they were available? He gave me another part number and I asked him where it was made? He said that one came in a box and had a washer that came with it and was made in Thailand! Then I went to the Mazda website And found a third filter, so I called Mazda corporate and they didn’t know if that one was made in Japan and they’re going to get back with me, I would sure like to run a Japanese filter on my Japanese car.
Just bought a new 2022 CX-5. That plastic piece is going to be annoying to remove. My new 2021 Corvette has holes right where the filter and drain plug are. No plastic to remove. That is how it should be done.
All joints. Any place rubber meets metal. Like swans bar, control arm tie rods steering rods Do you lubricate these joints during oil change? Some joints are sealed with rubber boots
@@donzheng7068 most modern cars dont require lubrication of the chassis or suspension. all ball joints are self contained or covered by rubber boots. I would only spray nuts and bolts with penetrating oil if you live somewhere where it snows.
When car reaches 30,000 especially Northern cars with all that rock salt they use on the roads its best to use a pressure cleaner on ALL rubber areas with joints...then use a good rubber silicon spray to help protect the rubber..if not the rubber breaks down ,and when millage gets high the car will sometimes Squeek where those rubber joints are.
I’d like to run genuine parts OEM, and I bought a bunch of oil filters from Mazda and they’re a different part number than the guy showed above this in a different video? He also said his oil filter came in a box with a washer for the green bolt, my oil filter part number is P01 D- 14 - 302A Dash MV! On the other side it says Mazda P5518 value products by Mazda made in Mexico, I was wondering if they make a Japanese one for this car? I got these filters from a Mazda dealer.

Clean the oil off the engine cover. U got hand prints all over. Just saying. First thing people will notice when the hood is popped open. Little details make the job.

there is nothing to worry about, this car is extremely easy to service. I only have 9k on it now so I cant show any other service at this time.
I used to work for a Mazda dealership and drop engines out of the Mazda 3
3.14 Use a plastic cup over the old filter and it won’t pour out all over.

Leave it on please. Especially since you do have to deal with road salt. It can severely compromise the life of your vehicle.

Fram filter is proven to be the worst filter to put on a car. Build quality is not all that great. Look it up on CZcams you’ll see

WIX filter and Edge full synthetic is safe to use? Just got a 2020 cx5 none turbo.
I use wix in my infiniti, it hasnt had any issue.
When was you’re first oil change? Did you do a new engine break in?
Its not required, but i did a break in service at 1,500mi
Do you think the oil should be the mazda brand oil with the moly in it. Or should fulll synthetic oil be fine
A good reputable brand synthetic oil will be fine. Just use correct weight. The owners manual list all oil specifications it must meet. 👍

great oil! that amount of burn is pretty typical. you got nothing to worry about
absolutely not normal in any mazda after 2014 after it separated from Ford. you should definitely get professional check up for oil burning.

i think you have to ask separately when you purchase. sometimes reusing the old one works

If you leave the plastic piece off, there will be the hole you are wanting.
Can I use 5w30 on the Naturally aspirated 2.5 engine? I live in Southern California where the weather never goes below 50 or 45ﾟ
Mazda recommends 0-20 oil for your application. I would personally just stick with 0-20 weight.
My Mazda 6 manual recommend 0w20 for US, 5w30 for Mexico. I am assuming you can use 5w30 for summer, 0w20 for winter. I am not professional BTW.

I think you forgot to mention to check the gasket seal from the oil filter if it got stuck to avoid double gasket. It could leak oil.

for north America, turbo cx5 is 5-30 non turbo is 0-20. also i live in the desert 😅
