Problems with Drugs and Crime in Kensington Ave, Philadelphia
In Philadelphia as a whole, violent crime and drug abuse are major issues. The city has a higher rate of violent crime than the national average and other similarly sized metropolitan areas. The drug overdose rate in Philadelphia is also concerning. Between 2013 and 2015, the number of drug overdose deaths in the city increased by 50%, with more than twice as many deaths from overdoses as homicides. 2 Kensington's high crime rate and drug abuse contribute significantly to Philadelphia's problems.
Because of the high number of drugs in the neighborhood, Kensington has the third-highest drug crime rate by neighborhood in Philadelphia, at 3.57. The opioid epidemic has played a significant role in this problem, as it has in much of the rest of the country. Opioid abuse has skyrocketed in the United States over the last two decades, and Philadelphia is no exception. In addition to having a high rate of drug overdose deaths, 80% of Philadelphia's overdose deaths involved opioids, and Kensington is a significant contributor to this figure. This Philadelphia neighborhood is said to have the largest open-air heroin market on the East Coast, with many neighbors migrating to the area for heroin and other opioids. With such a high concentration of drugs in Kensington, many state and local officials have focused on the neighborhood in an attempt to address Philadelphia's problem.

At about 12 years old, my dad and I rode down Skid Row in Los Angeles so that he could show me how they live. This sort of reminds me of Skid Row. People were walking around like zombies. There were crack pipes, crack vials, and needles scattered on the street. Tents & cardboard boxes were lined up and down the street. That ride down Skid Row was 100 times more effective than any "Just Say No To Drugs" after school special 😐
For those complaining about the commentary being the same, I get it but I believe he hits all the salient points identifying the problem at large. The footage isn't designed to solve anything but only bring to light an epidemic of astronomical proportions. I don't think you could add anything new that hasn't been said. maybe just let the video run and count your blessings. Works for me.

I drove through Saturday. It broke my heart to see a man holding his kids hand who was maybe 4 years old walking through these people (the man was clearly a good, clean father who just lived in the neighborhood)

K&A has been horrible since at least the mid 90's when I was a medic for PFD. You may see these people as victims, but I worked on the streets there and they are not victims, more of a blight on society. Shame on the city for letting this area just get worse and worse. The good people of K&A should demand better!

Honestly look at Afghanistan where the drugs are bad, you can say they have a limited access to education, employment opportunities and healthcare but NOT HERE! I know a ton of people literally living off our government. We have free education and scholarships for poor people and free medical. This is what we tell ourselves. Point blank these people are weak, I know I was one of them. I was weak, I had to get myself strong and fight to have a good life, not be a victim.
Govt. should take steps to drag them out from these conditions & should impose a strict law against drug smugglers.
Video shows how they have lost their capabilities, they are exhausted.

This isn't far from where I live, and it's heart breaking! Videos just don't show the true, devastating effects of drugs.
Even worse, when offered help, many get very violent, thinking we are trying to hurt them, even though we are not! All I can do is pray for them, and hope they get HELP before they die from drugs. It's heart breaking and it makes me angry.
It's all over the world, and it needs to stop! People really DO care, but are afraid to approach because these people are unstable and afraid, they will lash out because of that fear( it happened to me, and many others that were trying to help

In states most of the homeless the root cause is drug addiction and some of them loosing job. For drug addiction cases those people cant help. They will back to square.. They so week to fight, they so lazy and hopeless. No point helping them. Thats why government not looking into this issue. God wont change your attitude until u do something to your self. It’s a shame cause it use to be a good working class neighborhood. I remember going to Kelly’s Corner and driving down Kensington Ave on our way home. Use to be a bustling area.

This is the result of the broken family unit, a decrepit education system, and a pervasive narrative that everything is “difficult to obtain, just out of reach, a hopeless endeavor.” No country in this planet has more social resources, job training and education opportunities.
