    Philadelphia's most dangerous street.
Problems with Drugs and Crime in Kensington Ave, Philadelphia
In Philadelphia as a whole, violent crime and drug abuse are major issues. The city has a higher rate of violent crime than the national average and other similarly sized metropolitan areas. The drug overdose rate in Philadelphia is also concerning. Between 2013 and 2015, the number of drug overdose deaths in the city increased by 50%, with more than twice as many deaths from overdoses as homicides. 2 Kensington's high crime rate and drug abuse contribute significantly to Philadelphia's problems.
Because of the high number of drugs in the neighborhood, Kensington has the third-highest drug crime rate by neighborhood in Philadelphia, at 3.57. The opioid epidemic has played a significant role in this problem, as it has in much of the rest of the country. Opioid abuse has skyrocketed in the United States over the last two decades, and Philadelphia is no exception. In addition to having a high rate of drug overdose deaths, 80% of Philadelphia's overdose deaths involved opioids, and Kensington is a significant contributor to this figure. This Philadelphia neighborhood is said to have the largest open-air heroin market on the East Coast, with many neighbors migrating to the area for heroin and other opioids. With such a high concentration of drugs in Kensington, many state and local officials have focused on the neighborhood in an attempt to address Philadelphia's problem.

I was the straight shooting, head together, carrier ambitious and well raised single male with all the potential and skill nessesary to be comfortable the rest of my life. I took a wrong turn in the fork in the road resulting in my being a part of this documentary. My mindset at the time was that I could handle this and carry-on. I was so wrong. Heavy drug use proved that my cockyness was destroying my life, hence I was a part of this world for 5 years. I consider myself very lucky and fortunate to have reached light at the end of this dark period in my life and I have so much to be greatful for today. I've rebuilt my life without heavy drugs that enslaved me 12 years ago. God blessed me, no question about it. I was very green going into this lifestyle and many addicts took advantage of me because of this. It was a wakeup call. Admittingly, due to the fact that I was raised by a very loving and compassionate single Mother, it finally clicked with me, I had a choice to escape this lifestyle. I knew deep down, continue and die or reform and live. Here I am 12 years later posting this testimony and life is good. I want to thank all the Mom's and Dad's that raised their children well despite the rejection of their children which I am guilty of. Thank you Mother, your upbringing saved my life!

I wish there was something decisive outsiders could do for these folks, but my experience shows me that is nearly impossible. Getting robbed, being stolen from, having your life turned upside down and that's just because you're trying to help. But for all you keyboard warriors who think I'm being dismissive, I invite you to visit Kensington Avenue and ask someone there into your home for some R&R and to "clean up'. You know, put your life where your keyboard is. Or shut up. Your choice.

I was once homeless for a couple of years. The reason was because I got involved in a domestic dispute (ex gf flat out lied and said I abused her, basically). I ended up being homeless because I was in jail for a few months and lost my apartment (couldn't work for the rent money, obviously).
As a consequence of feeling resentful about my circumstances, having to sleep rough, finding it hard to get a decent job to the criminal record, and just generally feeling so wronged and not having anyone to help or even talk to, I fell into a drug problem. It definitely made it harder to get my life sorted out and get off the streets. And the addiction is extremely difficult also because drugs have basically FLOODED American streets. They're everywhere, so you're bound to have them offered because all the other street people are on them. So the temptation to just say "screw it, why not" and give into the peer pressure is also extremely high because you're depressed and in such a stressful situation.
My point is that a lot of people end up homeless and on drugs for reasons not necessarily within their control. Loneliness and hopelessness play big factors in deciding to use, also. I finally got myself together, but man. It truly is an unbelievably depressing and seemingly impossible situation to be in. The legal system is out of control and literally creates many homeless.
Nobody ever stops to ask or care how you will be able to keep a place to live when spending countless thousands and months of your life dealing with BS legal charges. It's basically impossible to not end up on the streets in that situation. And many women don't seem to understand that when they call the cops just to win an argument.

My experience weaning off of morphine my doctor prescribed for twenty years was that even though I reduced very slowly over almost a year, I always felt so sick. It was such a terrible feeling, with a gnawing urge, severe bone pain, little sleep, and never restful. Knowing that taking a little more morphine would ease this meant if I wasn’t stubbornly strong, I could have felt better.
My doctor didn’t take me off it- I made the decision and she supported me, so I went from 800 mg a day (enough to kill a horse) to none with much suffering. But first, I went off a Benzodiazepine, which my doctor thought would be harder!
I feel so bad for people living like those you showed on the video! I can only imagine the pain they go through living on the streets and see that drugs are a source of comfort they turn to there. Excellent work out there! Things in California, where I live, are bad, too. 💔💔💔

@@Buckhunter66 That makes no sense. We actually had a severe opioid crisis in the 90s which was like Kentingtons Ave in every city. The way we solved this problem was by legalizing heroin for those people, which worked immediately and greatly reduced deaths and infections. We also have big cities like Zurich (~400k people) and there are no homless people & no open drug use. The number of citizens doesn’t play a role here, but rather the social economic system. We have shelters for people that have nowhere to go and actively help them in finding new jobs. The USA has always been a pure capitalist, minimalist, anti-socialist country, which spends most of its money on the military. There are problems in this, as the pyramid of wealth is growing wider and wider.
We tax the rich more, yet our economy is one of the best in europe and Switzerland is very wealthy (every 12th person in Switzerland is a millionaire). We spend way less on the military and use some of those savings to provide absolutely vital social services, whereas the USA does not. I’m happy to say I don’t live in the USA.

    • @germanhd1211
      @germanhd1211 Před rokem +4

@@Buckhunter66 Coincidentally, countries with the strictest drug laws have the biggest problems with drugs themselves. Take for example brazil or the philipines, where people can legally be killed by police for using drugs, yet they are the biggest suppliers of cocaine and methamphetamine. The case like it is with Kensington is exactly how it looked in swiss cities in the 90s too. Police can simply do nothing about it, as it’s too big of a problem to address one by one. The US government just looks away from cases like this and pretends it’s not a problem. They simply don’t want to spend the money it takes „to get rid of the problem“. Furthermore, even the US-government realizes that locking these people up will solve absolutely nothing. When they get released from prison, they have nowhere to go and obviously turn to drugs again. The USA takes no attempt to reintegrate these people into society by helping them in finding new jobs and life perspectives, which would actually help with the drug issue. Instead, it just abandons them from society and refuses to accept that they have a massive crisis.

    • @germanhd1211
      @germanhd1211 Před rokem +1

@@Buckhunter66 I agree. This is the consequence that is entirely on the US government. It shows political instability and a failed social system (no social system). By attempting to reintegrate those people, they would not only help their economy, they’d also be one of the first modern countries taking a step back from pure capitalism. Many of the american people who are in jail, are there because of a felony involving drugs. If we are honest with ourselves, these people have done nothing morally wrong and mostly live painful life’s, fulfilled by suffering. Other than US propaganda campaigns might suggest, many of them are very much normal people who are there for consuming/providing socially unaccepted drugs. Locking up those people costs money, it’s a heck lot. Now imagine saving this money and putting those people into jobs of their intelligence class. It’s a shame of wasted potential in the USA. They showed russia which system works better and yet, they believe it cannot be improved anymore. Like a scientist making a discovery but not investigating it.
By the way, I’d bet you’d be surprised how many European countries have similar problems, despite getting payed shittons by the EU. The USA is obviously this but on a way larger scale. That’s not to say it’s the only problem the USA and other countries have.

Practice shows that no calls for a “healthy lifestyle” can create a stable perspective for the masses of people - if there are no solutions to the main question of philosophy: the question of the meaning of our stay on Earth.
I can say that stable success in finding balance and true happiness in life cannot be achieved without accommodating God in your Worldview
In different earthly languages, people call Him differently: God the Father, Allah, Ishvara, Tao, etc. Only human ignorance leads to the opinion that since the "names" are different, then the Gods are different...
He started all this Creation together with us not at all for our sake, but for His own sake, for the sake of His own Evolution.
Our human task here is to develop ourselves - as a soul, consciousness - sufficiently, to go from Creation to the Creator, refining ourselves as consciousness - in order to merge into the Creator, enriching Him with ourselves.
God keeps track of what a person chooses - improvement or degradation.
Consider temptations and temptations (God is the Great Tempter) as our testing by our Supreme Teacher (Creator).
"Woe to the world from temptations, but temptations must come."
Let's remember everything - drugs are a trap of Evolution.
A person is born to Improve, but many destroy their souls with drugs and other bad habits. As a result, they go in the opposite direction from God.
How to "get out" of this?
I will explain the meaning of life.
Many do not know why they live and spend such precious time... the result: depression, alcoholism, drug addiction, suicide.
God grazes us as His flock, sends us to grow and mature time after time to the "pastures" of the Earth. Here, in interaction with our own kind and with the objects of the material world, we acquire and strengthen one or another of our qualities - good or bad.
... What contributes to the development of the soul? Study in educational institutions, various industrial and scientific work, self-education in all those areas of knowledge that are most important for spiritual growth. Also - helping others to master all this.
What hinders the development of intelligence? Lazy lifestyle, drunkenness and the use of other soul-destroying drugs, living in rough emotional states…
Having grown up to the human state in a series of many previous incarnations, very many people go further not to the Creator, but in the opposite direction from Him. And they find, in the end, not the Perfection of God the Father to which they should strive…
      Engage in meditation and pranayama:
      EXAMPLES OF meditations:
      1. We must learn to live steadily with the soul in the spiritual heart (chest area) from it to look at the world around us, from it to send love to people, animals, plants, spirits, God. To do this, for example, you can learn to feel your head in your chest - with eyes, ears, lips ... (we will try to look at it in different directions and smile there, then the image of the head can be placed in all the chakras).
      2. You can feel a ray of light from your chest, which comes from where love lives. And - let's stroke everyone we see with a ray of this light.
Try to imagine a gentle morning sun in your chest - and shine it, with rays-caress and hug everyone you see with your hands!
This can also be taught to young children.
      3. Let's add: Imagine a fragrant rose. Let's introduce the flower to anahata. The chakra is filled with a delicate fragrance. (Let's introduce images of flowers into all the chakras).
Through efforts in practice, it will give blissful states, it will be a natural drug.
According to the book: Antonov V.V. - Ecopsychology.

If you don't hate what you are or what you have become, then you have nothing to fix. Looking outside for the right choices to come and fix your BS will never work. I grew up with this emptiness I ran away from home at the age of 12 I lived the streets and met good people, but also met bad people, I almost got stab twice for no reason, but God always was by my side, I lived what another person would go through on the street, I started Alcohol at age 12 , till I was 19 I started with Speed, I became soo addicted that I used it for 2 months straight non stop till one day I felt that I was about to loose my mind I asked God for redemption and I prayed and cried my soul to God and next day I stopped till I was 23 I hit bottom when I was introduced to Cristal meth I did it for 4 months straight till I hit bottom and ones again God saved me , I only drank alcohol till I was introduced to cocaine at age 26 I started smoking it and ones again I hit rock bottom probably was the toughest to leave I was soo hook that I didn't give a fck about no one till I felt like shit and ones again I cried to God and Prayed to him to help me I was staying in a drug house , so I asked God to help me fond a job and get me out of there, to my surprise I started looking for a job the day after and after the fourth place I stopped by I got hire the same day and I finally got out of that drug house because I met a good friend and offered me his house, I got cleaned all this years I just drank alcohol but I was starting to abuse it and I crashed my car ,till that day I been cleaned for 8 years I have a lovely wife and 3 kids and I started my own cleaning business but the most important thing is that my dad always thought me about God and no matter how deep I was on drugs I always had this voice calling God and he loved me and loved you soo much that he will never leave you, there's only one thing he won't do and that's drag you against his will, he can't he made us free that's why he let us hit bottom so in our desesperation will seak him, trust in God and never doubt he's divine love, God bless you all.

Depending on the dosage and the subject (animal), lethargy for easier handling or deep sleep for surgery and other procedures can be induced. Giving them money while they are in full blow addiction, early on or even 6 months to their first year of sobriety can be bad. When people are using they are using to get away from their problems and when they get sober all those problems are thrown right in their face everyday by the people who are suppose to be helping them lol. It's not about "choice" because no one I worked with chose to be homeless or addicted to drugs, alcohol or both. This video is about the city getting up off its arse and get the federal funding to establish clinics, rehabs, outreach services and other appropriate human services which are needed to address this out of control situation. Contact Lincoln University, PA to conduct a research analysis of this growing crisis. You did it from a Legal/Moral Perspective with people of color during the PCP and Crack epidemic. Now use the Disease/Public Health Perspective to address all human needs.
