🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:
00:00 🎮 *Air Roll Overview*
- Understanding two types of air roll: Joystick Air Roll and Directional Air roll.
- Joystick Air Roll limitations: Locked in two directions-spin or tilt, not both simultaneously.
- Introduction to Directional Air roll: air roll left and air roll right keybinds for a broader range of movement.
01:36 🚀 *Learning Directions*
- Importance of learning each direction before mastering air roll.
- Free play exercises: Flying right side up, upside down, left, and right.
- Building a foundation for advanced techniques like tornado spins.
02:42 🌪️ *Tornado Spin Technique*
- Tornado spin mechanics: Holding air roll left while pushing the joystick right.
- Unique lifting action of tornado spins for faster aerial takeoffs.
03:26 ⏭️ *Speed Control with Tornado Spins*
- Neutral position concept in the air and its role in controlling speed.
- Adjusting speed using tornado spins: Half spin slows down, continuous spins speed up.
04:19 🔃 *Turning Left and Right*
- Learning to turn left and right from neutral position using tornado spins.
- Gradual progression from individual turns to continuous spinning.
04:58 🔄 *Filling in the Gaps*
- Improving air roll proficiency by intentionally forcing awkward positions.
- Accelerated learning through embracing failure and recovery.
- Goal: Completing a rings map using only half of the joystick.
05:39 🔄 *Kuxir Twist and 100% Control*
- Introduction to Kuxir Twist for immediate speed adjustments.
- Caution on diminishing returns: 80% results achieved with tornado spins.
06:36 ❓ *Frequently Asked Questions*
- Do I need to learn both directional air rolls? No, focus on mastering one for 95% of the results.
- Joystick vs. Directional Air Roll: Use both strategically for recoveries and midair maneuvers.

SCAMMER
Spoiler alert: coaching costs $1400
What really ?? Thats insane
Naw please be joking
he also provides no refunds
People don't even spend that much on REAL soccer 😂
For real through rocket league coaching costs $200
I float between plat and diamond and i just started learning directional air roll bc of you. I got really good with car control forward and backwards and now I'm adding that in. Feels like I'm starting all over lol, thanks for the vid
Don’t buy his coaching course he’s a scammer
I've learned to mainly use free air roll over directional. Trying to learn directional now is so hard it's like starting from ground 0 again but with bad habits installed in my muscle memory. I think it's worth to learn but wow is it hard.
I’m exactly the opposite I have no idea how to use free air roll 😭
Thank you so much I have been using L2 turning for a long time now that I watch your video I will definitely help me in the future Thxs ❤
I remember seeing a vid of your rl sideswipe content with 10k-40k subs and now your almost ssl wow, you've come a long way
Thanks ❤
Yo this help a lot thqnks
Bro thank you so much ❤❤
isnt this guy's coaching program a scam?
this was actually useful
I feel like this isnt all of it, once you understand the big movements on the right side of your stick, imagine that the bottom your car is the hood, this will trick your brain into knowing the left side of your stick, its the same movement as the right stick vertically, just on the left side. Then, try to learn the right side of your stick when the bottom of your car is facing you and rinse and repeat. For the smaller adjustments treat it like your normally steering, but time short inputs when ever your hood faces you. Do this for every direction untill you can start alternating. Practice this until you can alternate with all four directions, forwards backwards and left and right. Congrats you can fully steer with longer and shorter movements now. The next step is to learn how to use it in game which I recommend griffilicious' two most recent videos on DAR.
And are you saying this as someone who applied this advice and has mastery of air roll or did you see it from another video? Not being confrontational just want to know where this is coming from.
Why is there no ‘save comment’ button?
@@soothingseas
you bring up a good point,
While I did discover the trick of swapping the bottom and hood myself, and have applied it successfuly,
I put this together from a mixture of videos, espeically from Griffilicious, and Strong Joshua.
the way I would teach DAR is a mixture of videos from previously mentioned Griff, Strong Joshua, and a video I saw more recently from Losfield.
I had only seen Griffs' and Strong Joshua's videos at the time but now I highly recommend Losfields for 'smoothing out' your air roll.
(Griffs teaches you initial control and use best, Joshuas teaches fine control, like the "alternating" part I mentioned in my comment before, you are absolutely right that I took large parts of this from other videos.
I actually learned air roll left, and I have even more information on it now, as I have picked up right as well.
To be completely honest I discovered the whole, mind trick by swapping which side of the car you view as the hood, on accident, but it sped my DAR left training up by quite a bit.
(I was able to use a similar mind trick for air roll right by imagining that the underside of my car was the hood, but to less effect. ).
Extra tips I have had since this comment:
I saw a video from Losfield (I think...) where he describes a "clock" where you spin your joystick with the rotation of the car. This, if timed properly, keeps your car from changing direction. Learning this clock method of this once you already have some control significantly smooths out your control.
When I learned air roll left, I was able to hit things like air dribbles and ceiling shots relatively early on, but it was 'robotic', so to speak because I did it with pre memorized motions of holding the stick in one direction, when I started realizing I could increase the speed at which I turn by doing half a tornado spin, then switch to a reverse tornado spin. After a couple months of this it just became smooth.
The losfiled method, I believe is a great way to 'smooth it out,' as I have been learning Air roll right, I have started to see the robotic-ness. This makes it so going for things like resets felt very unnatural, and while it wasn't a problem with left as my mechanics improved with control, I need right to catch up more quickly, and I have already seen massive results from this, and admittedly, I already have the feel for how the stick should be spinning, or the 'clock' because of left.
While I am definitely no where near pro level control, I went from no DAR to need to to use less within a month or two.
His 10th air-roll video that he keeps shitting out without explaining anything of worth
He goes wayyyy to fast….
@@OSS976 Are you watching a video in 2024 and don't know how to slow it down or pause.....wtf.
@@cujobo hey smartass, you misunderstood what I said… he doesn’t go in depth enough and rushes through the lessons. It has nothing to do with the speed of the video, but how deep he covers the lesson. He rushes through lessons.
Andrew Tate of RL
even Tate has more self respect than this guy
Can you make a video, where you go through the steam controller settings
In order to turn right I need to tornado spin and joystick up right? Or just air roll left and joystick up right?
if you really want to learn how to air roll, go watch the losfeld method. I assure you’ll be air rolling with this method
Is it on youtube
@@earthisflat1411yes
Dude I did this and boy were you right
thank you
This is my worst day on Rocket League. I confused Directional Air Roll and Joystick Air Roll and this whole time I learned the wrong air roll. Now I have to learn it again.
Brooo same😅
Im a kbm player and have a question, this might not apply to me because im kbm, but why dont you just use directional air roll
nice one
any alternative for ringsmap when u are on console?
I have over 2K hours in RL. I am older guy and my fingers and reaction times are shit... I tried remapping, and teachiing myslef airroll from start, but it's not possible at this state... I play game since alpha and still I suck at it :)
I dont use regu air roll ever. I have both directionals binded and that works for me.
Hey Luke, love your vids! unrelated, but got a 3s rotations question for ya, (D2 3s)
If I'm the 3rd man back as my two teammates are making a play on the ball, I want to be on the opposite side of the field than the ball, correct? So what happens when the 1st and 2nd man move the ball to the other side of the field, but they keep the play going between the two of them. Then I don't need to come out of the 3rd man back position, but now I'm on in the wrong side(left/right) of the map and need to get to the other side of the field or the "new" back post, and change the way I'm facing. During this transition I'm often caught by surprise shots. Is there something I can do to avoid this? Do I hope there's a "safe" time to do it as 3rd?
Good question. I’m not much lower than you however, maybe like shadow defend and cut back post. Just an idea / option. Not sure how good it will do thi
Stay further back
appreciate all ur vids man i really find them helpful keep up the work G :)
Damn, I thought I was weird for mainly rolling right in games and thought it was a bad habit. I’m glad it’s fairly common though
are you left or right handed & footed . If you are right NORMALLY you will prefer left and if you are right you will NORMALLY prefer right.
Just an assumption
@@princetbz1102 I’m left handed, right footed when playing soccer, and right handed when playing basketball.
i used both- depends on situation--- but its better to learn one side. I am right handed btw @@princetbz1102
@@princetbz1102 bro what? I think it’s the controller you use. For example, I use ps4, but I AR left. My friend uses Xbox controller, and AR Right.
I say this because your thumb is more natural to go left on ps controller, and Xbox your thumb is more natural to go right due to where your analog stick is
I’ve never had joystick air roll binded and have only had directional, do I have to bind joystick air roll?
Hey luke i have a question for you how do you boost with L2 if you brake with it ? And could you maybe show you keybinds you helpt me so much with your videos 😁
you can air roll mid air but cant break you cant air roll on the ground but you can break
can you get ssl with regular air roll
Guys what do i do if my tm8 is a mest head who it very sure that front post rotation is better
So I'm doing the half air roll to control my speed pretty well but when i roll continuously i can't control it i just usually go in one direction. What am i doing wrong?😊
What you are doing wrong is taking advice from SpookyLuke
how long have you been playing the game bro
Was good I’m here under 2mins
To everyone watching and considering the Grand Champ Bootcamp, I’m begging you, don’t be an idiot. Don’t waste your time, but also, don’t waste $1400.
Watch losfelds method on air rolling
Love ur content bro
I want directional air roll but i am playing in ps4, what do i do?
Great stuff! I find tutorials like these (with steps explaining how and why) the best. Now I can finally understand the car gymnastics mid air w/ directional air roll. Keep on making great stuff, Luke!
Don’t stop doing videos please
Awesome video!! Gonna try this!!
i've never been this early
and if i play on keyboard i should just kms rq?
Slowly if possible
For me c and v work the best since I can use them with my thumb independently of wasd
I use ctrl with my fifth finger (idk the name)
tnx for the tips guys, but this looks easier on controller than on keyboard however i will try to learn it, idk how i even got to diamond without being able to hit the ball normally in the air
@@gurrierpl for you, how you gonna change ball and car cam mid air roll
So this video helped me a lot it really did but for some reason the directional air roll doesn't work I don't know why can someone help?
Finally someone to break down with perfect editing how to turn left during left airoll. All tips are great and best shortcut to get muscle memory.
Hi im learning air roll right after using air roll left after years of mastering to know both. I have improved a lot but still have so much more to learn. But I find myself using the right side of the joystick more when using air roll right when I am aware that it should be the opposite. It works well for me but I feel like it might be a bad habit, how should I go about this?
As in im pretty much reverse tornado spinning whenever I want to go left
I went from not knowing how to use air roll to being able to complete lethamyrs training pack well using air roll in a week (using one side of joy stick) thank you so much for making this video it helped a lot.

I FINALLY UNDERSTAND
cool
should i switch from air roll right to left
No, if u prefer that, use that
I use air roll right
You better watch Thesis on airroll
Is it okay if I use both left and normal air-roll at the same time? I’ve been using it the whole time and it’s been working good.
Yes. There are certain moments where regular air-roll is more than enough, and moments where you need directional air-roll.
@@RogerH_CxP ok. So if I have using both at the same time down should I go practice just left air-roll
i just wanna say that ive always have only used normal air roll, and ive been able to hit gc1-2 the last 6ish seasons, also pro player and more notably recent world champion Alpha54 also only uses normal air roll, i would say using normal air roll is fine unless you want to become extremely mechanical
@@Oops334 It's best to practice both, there are training packs that focus on each mechanic.
But probably better to train directional more as it's a bit harder to control. (Make sure you know about aerial control)
It will take time to learn but once you do, it'll go effortless. Don't quit once you think "I'm never gonna get it cuz it's too hard", i thought so too, but recently something clicked in my head and now I'm much, much better than a few months ago (feel like a whole new person). I'm every single day in Freeplay/training packs. Even the packs you think are useless, practice them.
Edit to correct a word
@@TheJacobi I’m already pretty good at air-roll left. I’ve been doing it for a while and I’m pretty mechanical.
How about I was signed up to join the boot camp and the guy scheduled a call with me and he didn’t show up 😂 my ass was there and he was not. Shit was crazy
Gorp
Bro is literally the andrew tate of rocket league
first i needed workshop maps and a few hours later u make that vid and i needed an airolll guide and here u r delivering
After learning this myself and watching countless videos I’ve realized you don’t have to actually fully logically understand directional air roll. I’ve been overthinking it most of the time time, treat dar like your learning to walk look at the directions then just do them with repetition, I would constantly try to overthink in the middle of my air roll and screw it up but after a few months I’ve realized my brain should not be doing the calculating,my fingers should. If you’re constantly calculating in your head the next move then you are not focused on the ball above you. Just let the muscle memory happen, then from there learn to perfect it through videos.
BIG THANKS for the editor
Lets gooo mates another great Luke video to help us climbing 🚀
as a new player this is good but myu brain is broken
By far the best video i've seen on this. Thank you
After doing that I when from plat to silver 😭
I'm still confused on how to air roll
Ur not alone :)
Second great vid luke
I love your videos! They’re so helpful! Could you make another dribble tutorial? I’ve been having a hard time getting the ball on my car, it keeps popping up.
the editing on this vid is so smooth
editing is great for some shit tips
how are the tips bad@@seryal
its sad im champ and still cant
No matter how much i try, i just can't learn directional air roll
I felt the same. I searched a lot of tutorials (this channel included. Wich no offense, but where probably the worst). I felt like giving up, but I just kept doing rings maps (if you are on pc), until idk how i started controlling my car better, until i eventually got it. Still a long way until I master It though. Just keep trying, and stop looking a tutorials. They were useless for me. Just don't try to think much about the cars position when air rolling honestly
@@bald456 THANK YOU! bro spookluke air roll tutorials are useless...my suggestion would be to try Losfeld's method of directional air roll. he goes WAY more in depth. it's like a 2 1/2 hour vid tho.
I’ve been trying to learn air dribbles while using joystick air roll this whole time please kill me. Im new to the game
Any kbm players here in the comments? What are your bndings for air roll?
Me, ctrl with my fifth finger for my main one and one of those mouse buttons that you hit with your thumb for the other
This is a pretty bad take imo... "Just learn tornado spins cuz ur plat/diamond"...
Bro is giving me the passwords to everything for free 💀 how the hell do you even figure out these stuff its like the oerson who invented how to bake a cake
You said “why am I are you not subscribed yet” and I instantly subbed lmao
Thats why he said it
but is it free??
Not everyone having an Xbox controller guide where is the ps4 ones
A big portion of the media surrounding the rocket league community has just become sloppy, dishonest and frankly insulting «tutorials» (especially surrounding DAR). Stop this bullshit
the problem is i use keyboard
i never use normal air roll theres really no point
Don’t let me joint the discord
I’d rather not

I've been struggling with the direction air roll concept. Being Gold 2 I noticed more player are getting there mechanics down. So I've been watching a bunch of air roll videos and never understood the concept, your video click right away man. WE MAKING IT OUT OF GOLD WITH THIS ONE🗣🔥🗣🔥

Luke,
You helped me and my jurney with air roll left you make the best tutorials🙂. I'd like to thank you but I want to ask on question.
Would you mind doing a tutorial how to air dribble with air roll left? I mastered air roll left but I still cant air dribble with it can you please help me one last time??🥺🥺🥺I even did the whole lethamyrs map in a hour just to try and get the air dribble
I’m plat in 2v2 anyone wanna play on console
Just tornade spin isnt fast enough, especially higher up in the ranks. Sure, tornado spins are a good wqy to start, but u cant look at your car all the time to see whether your car is pointing the right way... it has to be instinctive which u can get by just oracticing in the rings map and stuff like that
Empirically learning like you are suggesting is the most common. But, Losfeld's video gives an actual training method that covers everything. It's knowledge based AND instict based. *not sponsored*
How many times are you going to make the same video dude lol
Is this the truth?
