- Who doesn't love a great first game to their career? Well, maybe not the players who wound up having their best career game in pro sports as their very first one...

J.P. Arencibia went 4 for 5 with 2 home runs in his debut and has a career WAR of 1.9
Immediately who I thought of
his wife is also very pretty
Jays equivalent of gary sanchez
@@antonioreconquistador Gary Sanchez has roughly 8 times more WAR than Arencibia does and is still an active major leaguer lol
That’s probably .1 of it right there
another good one is Daniel Ponce de Leon, threw 7 no-hit innings in his debut with the Cardinals in 2018, been bouncing around the minors since then
Jason Jennings is the most random ROY in MLB history.
I still remember Jennings because Justin Morneau had his first career hit off him. Still weird to think how he faded out.
Congtats, Pat Listach is now upset.
jonathan india will be in 10 years
Bob Hamelin. American league ROY in '94. Only had career bWAR of 2.5, never played more than 110 games in a season, and was out of the majors by '99 at 30 years old.
He was a decent hitter for a pitcher too early on.
Andy Van Hekken is an outstanding baseball name. Fun video!
Steven Matz's debut literally set records and he's been just an ok big leaguer since.
His first game with the Mets he went 8 and gave up 2 runs and got the win....but the big story was he went 3-3 with 4 RBIs which was a record for any Mets hitter in their debut....nevermind the fact this was a pitcher.
It spawned one of the great moments with Grandpa Matz(RIP) absolutely losing his shit in the stands.
He would have 9 RBI total after that game in his career(so far, he's still active on the Cardinals but Pitchers no longer hit so....)
I was there for that game - was convinced Matz was gonna be a star on the way home from the ballpark
@@SRSMike That whole rotation really. Can't believe we got like 2 good years out of them as a group
His minors stats (and his name) made it seem like he would be that good every 5th day.
Wish Matz panned out. My uncles is a Mets fan and he had some connections to get me in a post press conference scum. The young pitchers were all signing but Jake had to leave early. Only got Noah and Matz💀
Troy Grosenick mentioned lets goooo
Also honorable mention to Tyler Gilbert, who pitched a couple games in relief but threw a no hitter in his first MLB start, not quite the description but still pretty close
Guys like Tyler Gilbert and Browning Nagle are all over the list adjacent to this one
@@StarkRavingSports If you count first starts that were not their first games, Mike White for the Jets a few years ago could qualify
Glad you found Jennings. I was at that game and even Mets fans were cheering.
Two Chiefs RBs had ridiculous first games. CEH had 138 rushing yards at 5.5 yds/carry and one td in 2020 and Kareem Hunt had 148 rushing yards, 8.71 yds/carry, one rushing td, and 98 receiving yards with 2 tds in 2017. Now they’re both backups at best.
Damn MCW was so hyped up and when he did that to Miami in the first game, it just grew even more
Maroon 5’s best album was their first btw but that’s a soapbox I’ll get on some other time
sir this is a sports video
Big agree. Songs about Jane is an incredible album.
Fabian Brunnstrom is one that comes to mind, scored 3 of his 19 NHL goals in his debut. I think
Ryan Poehling is probably in the same boat, but he’s only 25 so maybe he can top his hat trick and shootout winner debut
Pretty hard to top that as your first game in the bigs
i could
I have to give a special shoutout to Kevin Kouzmanoff and Jeremy Hermida for being the players to hit a grand slam in their first plate appearance (Kouzmanoff doing it on the very first pitch he saw), only to put up mediocre seasons for the rest of their careers.
Nevermind peaking in your first game, they peaked in their first _plate appearance._
Ross stripping took a no hitter to the 8th inning I think against the giants in his debut after coming from TJ surgery
Daniel Nava hit a grand slam on the first pitch he saw and went 2 for 4 that game with a double
Loved this video I learned a lot of new names in this one
I was playing the game OOTP (Out of the Park baseball) and opening some packs while watching... I pulled a Jason Jennings card as soon as you started talking about him!!
Great video though I do want to mention the mispronunciation of Alex stalock cause I have a family connection and I him and got a signed wild jersey from him
Daniel Nava is another great example. His first ever hit was a grand slam. His career itself was a bit underwhelming
light work
Keep it up 👍
JP Arencibia came to mind before watching the video.
Kevin Magnussen in F1 finished 2nd in his debut race, and has not returned to the podium in the 10 years since
Nick Kingham former Pirates SP comes to mind.
There better be a Bumpus Jones section of this video
MICHAEL CARTER WILLIAMS MENTIONED🔥
Boldin , “a very solid career” dude is HOF
Although he's still been really good, Auston Matthews has yet to repeat his 4 goal performance in his NHL debut.
he definitely received consideration to be here but it's well within his range to make that outdated ASAP
@@StarkRavingSports true
To this day
Not gonna lie, I was expecting to see Auston Matthews here. But I suppose that could be easily invalidated at any time...
Coulda put Daniel Ponce De Leon
Taylor Gilbert is the greatest example of this
Tyler^
6:42
Thomas Groesbeck was the first player ever
first person ever*
where is jp arencibia?
Tyler Gilbert no-no in his debut
Steven matz
No one cares you played hockey until your senior year.
actually I stopped way before that Ik you’re fuming
