I love that you don’t edit the realism out! Social media is about perfectionism and I’m here for you dropping things and your beautiful laughter and not knowing and owning yourself!! Seriously love that about your videos! But the big pot would be awesome for laundry powder or put on your front porch with beautiful flowers!! Keep being you Kristen ❤Social media needs more of like you!

Kristen, never use enamel ware that is chipped or cracked on the inside. The enamel shards are like glass. Use it for plants or decor to put things in. As for laundry soap, I think that should go into a container that can be closed.

Yes I agree that’s exactly what I was going to say. It would be cute with a plant or to hold something else that you don’t eat. I’m kind of glad that we don’t have Goodwill bins where I live because I would feel sorry for too many things and bring them home.

I collect enamelware, I use some of mine and display some. I would not use the pot because the surface has been compromised with the big chips in the bottom. If it were all intact I would totally use it. But, there are a million things you can still do with it. Drill a hole in the bottom and use for a plant on your porch, put it in your bathroom with rolled up wash cloths in it., in your laundry room and store rags, or bottles in it, fill it with clothespins, as a small trash can in a bathroom. Lots of uses! The ironstone, if the surface is not compromised you can totally use it. If it has lots of stains and cracks in it (like the very first bowl you showed) that means that moisture can get in those cracks and it's probably not safe to put things in it that could seep into those cracks, but you could still serve like tortilla chips or dry food in. I used to live in Illinois, and we went to Ozark Mo all the time, one of my favorite places to antique!! We stayed at a lovely bed and breakfast there that area is beautiful in the fall. Great video!

Hi! That first slicer is definately a good old Norwegian cheese slicer. I don't think you'll find a single Norwegian home that hasn't got at least one or two of them... ;-) We actually call them a 'cheese planer', (ostehøvel) and it slices medium soft to hard cheeses in thin slices, to put on your bread. Just like a wood planer would cut thin slices of wood from a piece of wood. If it's a little bit dull, out of old age, you could try to sharpen it with a piece of sanding paper over a popsicle-stick or something else that fits into the gap. You only need to sharpen the top blade, which cuts the cheese when you press the cheese slicer down on the cheese and pull it towards you. Good luck!

The metal on the gravy boat is armetale which is an aluminum based alloy metal. It is recycled and food safe.

  • @kelby8268

Enamelware, you can blame it on pregnancy brain. LOL I always use clear glass salt and pepper shakers as well as clear dispensers for hand soap. That way you easily tell what's inside and when it needs to be refilled. Agree with everyone about the pot....don't use for food/cooking, but I would have picked it up too! So many other options though, stage in your home decor, in a bathroom with rolled up towels, put a Christmas tree it in, use it as a storage container....

You definitely are a gift for us common folks! From what I understand, older pieces with crazing and/or cracks should be rendered unsafe for food... as the possibility of them harboring bacteria is high.

    Hi Kristen,
    Great Haul !!! Congrats!!!!!
The lemon reemer is best out of glass. You found one! I’ve been using my moms for 50 years now and love it. Place it on a kitchen towel and turn your 1/2 of orange or lemon. The little rim collects the seeds so you can spoon them out and pour out your juice.
Enamelware pot is beautiful but I wouldn’t use it as a cooking vessel because it’s pitted and may have lead or other toxic matter used to coat the pot. Since you’re going Primitive I would place a beautiful potted green plant inside! If you have a sunny spot in your kitchen it would look great on a milk stool.
That is a cheese slicer and I’ve been using mine for years. I just make sure my block of cheese is about the width of the blade and slice away!!
The other slicer looks Vintage and may have aluminum like your lemon juicer. So be careful.
Thanks for reminding us about the health links from use of aluminum contained in products!!!
When I buy wooden spoons I give it a light sanding and wash them in hot water with a little vinegar or a little chlorine.
Then soapy water and rinse them well.
Gravy boat looks like pewter and looked like it had stainless steel on the side decor. Great for your Prim decor.
Ironstone is beautiful but if any cracks or crazing on them…do not use for food servers. Great for displaying!!!
    The USQMC stands for the
United States Quarter Masters Corp. Used in the Army I think.
    Love your Channel!!!!
    Blessings to you and Family.
    Barb in San Antonio, Tex

I didn’t read all the comments, sorry if I’m repeating someone. The cheese cutter that looks like it has a piece of wire on it is used for softer cheeses. You might be able to adjust the size of it by tightening that screw on there.. The other one is also a cheese cutter, and used for a harder cheese. I have both of them and they work great.

About the cheese slicers - if you fold a little bit of parchment papper and put i through the hole on the first slicer, so there is paper on both sides, it slices much easier. On the second one, you adjust the thickness of the slice with the screw in the middle 😏

When we first moved to a rural area years ago, we had a house on a dirt road heated with a Franklin stove and no bathrooms! We used a pot like that for a “slop jar”. You put it under the bed and used it at night or early in the morning, then took it to the outhouse when you got dressed. 😊

You look so pretty today!😊 The salt & pepper shakers are a classic, my grandmom and my mom had a set and so do I! Good standard shakers, good size. So those may be vintage if they came from an older home/couple. Love the pot, cute for decor, especially Christmas! Stack old books in it, rolling pins, plants. Seal the detergent.. things could fall in! I find my first piece of iron stone digging thru an old shed, a really large platter by Meakin!! I'm definitely using it for decor only. Real steal on your iron stone! Had A blast watching you today, you always bring a smile to my face.. you're just precious😊

Antique pewter can contain lead, so if it is your intention to use the gravy boat for food, I would recommend getting a lead test kit. Also, if it does have lead in it, it can discolor to a blackish patina. I would not use the enamel pot for cooking due to the internal damage, but would use it strictly for decor. I like both pieces.

Those ironstone pieces are charming. I think the bigger bowl would look beautiful with some moss and mini daffodil bulbs for Easter ❤. I think it is great that you are so open to asking questions about pieces because how else would a person learn? A few years ago it was easier to find information about antique and vintage pieces on the internet but now the algorithms just direct you to where to purchase things.

Kristen your videos are the absolute best! You make me laugh. Please don't ever change, you are awesome. I've been making my own laundry soap for a few years. I make 5 gallons at a time and store it in a food safe bucket with a twist off lid I purchased at Tractor Supply. I do miss your thrift hauls. ❤

I would love the black and white enamel ware bowl for a planter . Great idea. I have a small one of those .

Such great finds Kristen! I have some older enamelware, but I don’t use it for food if it has rust or cracks in the finish either. It would make a great planter, as several others mentioned☺️☺️☺️

Loved this video, and your cute sweater! I just picked up a very similar pot with a lid at an estate sale in the "free" section. It has so many worn through spots, so I am using it as my designated Dye Pot. All my cotton and linen napkins have been looking so tired and stained, so I mixed up a batch of powdered Rit dye (navy plus half a packet of black) and over-dyed one set of napkins. Then I dyed a stained canvas tote with the rest of the black. Must say it looks fabulous. And since I was going nutty for dyeing everything in sight, I did a turmeric dye on my other set of napkins, which are now a rather shocking shade of yellow, but oh well! The pot looks worse than it did before, but it is saving my stainless steel cooking pots and pans from my dye concoctions! I love the idea of it being a planter as well. Super idea.

How funny that you mention the green bean casserole! I haven't made it in years. My MIL used to make it for my husband and his sister when they were little. I didn't realize it was an actual thing! I thought it was something she had just thrown together. 😂I'm in northeast Nebraska.

Kristen, I have a few enamel pans/pots like yours and I use them for potted plants- I put pebbles on the bottom and place the potted plant in them or my husband will make a stand for the smaller pots to elevate them- one pot is for my small herb pots and I can move them around as one entity to get them in the sun more or to take outside when the weather is really good. As for cheese- my husband and kids think cheese is like salt- cheese always makes it taste better😅 so you use cheese anyway YOU want and blow off the “crunchy moms”. That is yellowware and it’s gorgeous!

Soup looks so yummy. I have a basic muffin recipe that I’ve been using for a while. You freeze the muffins without baking them and then pull as many as you need from freezer and bake 350 for 30 mins and they are fresh each time. I usually make a huge batch at once. I make some apple cinnamon, blueberry, chocolate chip and banana nut. We really love them all. ❤

We often had tater tot casserole growing up. I loved it, definitely a comfort food. I tried using a cheese slicer like the first one you showed. I found it difficult to use. I have some ironstone platters, including a small one very similar to the first one you showed. I have them stacked together on the open shelves in my kitchen. Have s blessed week🙂

I would either use the pan for a flower planter or to hold rolling pins and such! I think brass can work great with primitive!! I really think you should do a small antique booth, its been fun money for my husband and I and its great when I want to switch up decor or I find something cool at the bins that isnt my style but I know someone else would love
