NEW TO OUR CHANNEL? Watch this first: • How-to Saddle Hunt wit...
This is a very minimalist method for mobile saddle hunters. We are showing you exactly how we climb into large trees with minimal equipment, cost and effort.
This method may not be for everyone, but think of it as another tool in your arsenal. Please watch until the end as there's a lot of information on DRT climbing technique that we believe is one of the safest, quietest, least expensive ways to climb a tree for saddle hunting. I hope you all benefit from our technique. Please like and share with others.
Please remember that climbing of any kind is inherently dangerous. The DRT climbing method has been a standard in the arbor industry for 100 years. But remember It's only safe if you do it right. Ensure your knots are tied correctly and make sure you set every knot before you get off the ground. This is our method that we use in saddle hunting, but only do what makes you comfortable and do this at your own risk.
Feel free to comment down below with your questions, We'd love to help in any way we can.

Do you have issues with a carabiner clacking against the RollNLock? I got one last year but didn't have a carabiner that fit and forgot about it. My only worry is that it will make noise due to the metal on metal contact and the large diameter of the hole.

I haven’t looked into it. But maybe a rubber grommet would work

No . It doesn’t work for my rope climbing style.

Do you have any concerns about the Roll N Lock in a fall rest situation? Will it damage the rope?

It’s a tooth ascender( rope grab / positioning device) so there’s always that risk !
As with any of these so called micro ascenders. You need to back them up with hitch cord . And not rely on them for primary attachment. They’ll slide just as easy when used in conjunction with a Shwabish hitch . Use a 28” double eye hitch cord or longer so in the event you slip off stick or platform the hitch is first to grab . My choice for using this one is
1 has a higher load rating than other micros
2 it doubles as a great hitch tending device.
      Great Question Jeff.
      Thanks for asking !!!

Jeff this is Joe all toothed ascenders are frowned on for primary life support especially if you have a fall arrest situation. Ive seen some testing they will damage the rope sheeve at 2-4 kn which is 500-1000 lbs and thats easy to create in a fall arrest situation so we feel the safer coarse of action is a friction hitch for primary life support like on a tether and use the rope grabs for our linemans belts. Be safe !
