It consists principally of an extended interview with Eric Weinstein who named the movement. The point about the need for high-variance people is so important. I hope that people have taken that point to heart; it's not charismatic rebels we're talking about here, it's frustrating, stressful, difficult, unattractive people who are nevertheless more integral to our way of life than anyone else. I have seen firsthand how people try to shut these people down, denigrate and humiliate them. It's very frustrating.
*Agreed.* I worked with a lot of a$$holes, but I personally forced myself to work with them because, at the end of the day, they got the job done! I didn't agree with them; they were obnoxious and had terrible habits. Case in point: I always say to my boss, "If I was in charge, nothing would happen; nothing would get done."
Freedom of speech. An idea that should never be compromised.
Even for concepts of love and peace.
@Free Thinker Yes. And if you do so when there is no fire and someone gets hurt you should be punished for that. But you are being punished for being a dick wad and getting someone hurt. Not for what you said. Because we want people to feel free to shout fire when there is a fire and to feel like a dick wad for shouting fire when there isn't one.

Free Thinker it’s not that all speech should be free of consequence. It’s that it should never be prohibited by law. I’m no absolutist, I believe threats should be banned speech or inciting violence. But, there actually is a logical argument to be made that free speech should be absolutely wide open legally and that society would adjust into a paradigm where society itself would impose the penalties for people who make threats and other such abuses.
I never realized that this was even a thing, you guys are spearheading a new wave of authenticity. Please continue to do what you're doing and take everything in stride, because we're following you.

Wow!! I'm absolutely blown away. Up until a few hours ago I had no idea IDW existed. To hear my complex thought echoed by another human being gives me some hope.
Eric, I couldn't agree more. As someone who had their career ended because of speaking the truth, at least as I saw it, it the corporate world, I struggled to understand why being a yes man was more important than innovation. Watching the yes men be rewarded with increasing titles and compensation was contrasted with their incompetence. The downside was lost opportunity for the company to become a leader in their field for the sake of conformity.
I heard you on Joe Rogan and I'm working through your content. Thank you for trading your peace and quiet to present these messages. I honestly thought I was the only one who thought that the world was upside down.
Shareholders treat corporations the way we treat our bodies. As long as nothing disastrous happens, we do whatever makes us feel great. Even if it kills the invisible parts we need for survival.
There was a theory about workplace promotion, where you were elevated until you were no longer competent. I can't remember the exact title, but it's worth a look.

I've felt unmoored lately, surrounded by voices and ideas I find absurd. I've been shocked to find people I once felt in harmony with now regard me as heretical. As it turns out, they are correct. I'm getting my sea legs listening the IDW. Thank you all.
Watched this a few times now, prominent listening. The portal is great, loved Sir Penrose. Your solo I listened to four times, it has levels that brighten hope.
If you are referring to the "Slipping the DISC" episode, I have also listened to that a few times now. Also the episode with Sam Harris is worth at least 2 listens.

Just an FYI. This was originally published in January 2019 if you're thinking it seems a little dated in parts. If feels, at least for me, that things have moved quite along since then! Still a great interview though.

IDW Kids are just riding addiction waves and chase fiat dragons.
The CZcams channel/organisation Rebel Wisdom arranged, recorded, and released this interview a little over a year ago. I'm guessing Eric's re-uppping it now because it's still relevant (...and maybe because it only just now occurred to him to ask RW if he could release it on his channel!).
@Ken Clarke oh sorry. I was mostly referring to the direction The Portal has taken and the community forming around it. It has a different vibe, to me, than the IDW - which kinda began to lose it's shine once it blew up.
I guess from my own perspective I'm also referring to other thinkers I've discovered indirectly as a result of the IDW but who aren't really a part of it. Like Jordan Hall, Daniel Schmachtenberger, John Vervaeke and a host of others.
And finally, I'm referring to game~b (mentioned way back when by Bret on JRE) getting a new lease on life. (eg. the game~b facebook group, which has been around for about 8 years, has blown up over the last 6 months or so.)
All of these things happened partly because of the IDW phenomenon, and therefore partly have the IDW to thank, but they're also their own thing and 'beyond' the IDW in some respects. For example, someone has (a little tongue in cheek) coined the term the Intellectual Deep Web in reference to the group of thinkers I mentioned.
Ultimately it's really kinda a personal preference on my part. I've always liked Bret and Eric (and the way they think) more than the rest of the IDW so I'm really happy that they've also started doing their own thing.

Mr. Weinstein I am so glad to have finally 'met' you. In the 2 days since our 'introduction' you have become my hero, and reminded me what a hero really is, and further..inspired me to wake up my own forgotten heroism. And thanks to David Fuller and Rebel Wisdom for making this clip available here.
Eric is an incredibly switched on intellectual. You also break things down into fairly simple terms for most people to understand what is being discussed. Been thinking these kinds of things for years and I love how these idea's expose the ludicrous and corrupt institutions in both right and left wing policy,
These free thinkers must be given voice and propped up at all costs, the Jordan P's, the Sam Harris's and the Snowden's. Heroes in their own right. Cutting through the smoke and mirrors and breaking down these foul concepts of globalism down to their essence.
The fact that he's trying tells me there is hope. However small.
This is the kind of exposition that I wish would go on forever. :-)

I state the hypothesis that this debate will become political as soon as it reaches Germany. It won’t happen because it requires nuance which loses votes. I’d argue Erics interview with Andrew Yang was one of the most cringe inducing interviews he has done because it showed Yang did not have any substance.

no reflection on this particular podcast, but why do podcasters find it so difficult to use compression and post-production to even out the volume of both speakers?
It’s easy to see genius of this mathematician/physicist. He’s making it a specific point to be eloquent, even thoughtful in his acronyms.
My lord, I've found my like-minds. What would benefit this group the most? I feel like a lot of us are entrepreneurially inclined, and I know most entrepreneurs are under utilized in terms of productive potential. Im currently involved in getting COVID-19 supplies around, but I have a few other businesses as well, they just aren't my current focus.
Haven't finished this one yet but I just finished episode 23 of the portal with Agnes Callard and I've got to say it was fantastic. Especially on the back end of the discussion. Excited to watch it on CZcams as well.

Eric, as someone who follows the financial and economic system almost to an obsession. I sincerely hope you release some kind of content on the current state of the financial world. Be it stock markets, capital markets, real estate, interest rates (positive or negative), investment banking, the flaws of GPD incentives, etc, I'd love to hear your opinions and would willingly fall face-first into the portals you might open.
