  • In this video we add a navigation menu to our excel workbooks. This is an awesome trick to make your excel workbooks function more like a software.

This is just about one of the coolest things I've ever seen on Excel. I've used the annual plan videos for a project, but this might end up being the 'wow factor' I need (as in 'wow factor' is a part of our grade). Thank you so much!

Great video- subb'd ! I was playing around with Excel last week & I figured out how to do this. Seemed like a neat trick (or perhaps more like a hack). I'd just add this: at a certain point, users need to hop over to using a database if that's what really fits. It offers this kind of functionality without the need for a hack. The fun zone for me is to explore how I can integrate Excel with a database- the best of both worlds. Would welcome your ideas. Thanks.

thanks for taking the time to check out the video!
Typically I am dealing with strength and conditioning coaches and fitness professionals so a data base is likely not as important because the amount of data will not be as high as a lot of other professions.. but I agree that sould be a consideration at some point and with something like power query in excel you can integrate pretty well!

This was definitely very useful. My follow up question is now that i have my navigation menu created in each worksheet I am ready to populate my worksheets that have different formulas and links etc in them. I'm not sure how to ask this but i essentially want to 'disconnect' the navigation pane from the rest of the worksheet so that changes i make in the body of the worksheet don't change the format/appearance of the navigation menu. Can I/How can I do this? Thanks

you could use ONLY the icons part , or insert Text Boxes , and then right click -> properties -> dont move and size with cells

Hi! is it possible to lock the menu? The goal being that if we scroll, the menu remains visible

you can lock the rows or columns but it will also lock all of the content on the sheet if you scroll down .. what I would recommend is to put your menu along the top of your sheet and lock the first couple rows. Hope that helps.
