Love the AK videos have been dry firing with my AK when I can although I haven't tried this method I usually do the traditional Russian reload but I'm gonna start to try this one thanks for the tip keep the videos coming!

Thumb sweep ftw! It prevents over reaching, but also provides better feedback, and avoid stripping a bullet out (which I have seen way too many times with mag sweep reloads, causing pretty nasty malfunctions).

The Iraqi reload ? Dump the mag in a 360 death blossom, drop the weapon and run ? Or is there another version ?

I think what he refers to with "iraqui reload" is holding the gun in your shoulder pocket with your right hand pulling the charging handle all the way back. Your left hand does everything all the same and in the end you release the bolt and go to fire control.
It's very useful with saigas in 12ga for instance because puting a fresh full mag on a closed bolt is not only very hard but might also damage the cartrige and then prevent it from feeding properly.
There is also another reload style where you beercan the mag upside down with bullets forward, strike the mag release with it, insert the mag as if you wanted to do a muai thai guard and then you are closer to the charging handle.
But I think it's the other one that he calls "Iraqui", this one is very much russian

Does reloading the Ak change much with a single point or two point sling dew too it possibly being in the way?

what type of suppressor is that? I want to say surefire but i havent seen anything on the website with that aggressive front end on it.
Trying to figure out the specs of the RD AK I'm about to order, is this the two-tone Gray / black paint job? also, did you have a QD mount installed on the triangle folding stock? Need, this Ak for the November AK class.-Dan
Soileater obviously not Travis but that looks like manganese paint color and you can have a QD welded on triangle stock...I did mine.
Honestly though what I learned from this is its not about cool. Its about functional.

What ak do you use? I know I should probably spend more time and money practicing, but I only have access to a static range and I'm in med school so all i can afford is guns an ammo and maybe a couple of hours a week. I know it wont make me a better shooter, but it would be cool to have better quality.

Great tips and running an ak looks fun. But now to speak practically... other than fun, why would a civilian want to run an ak over all the other options? Mostly ARs which can also be found cheaply and are much more ergonomic?
Just Jimmy as simple as different strokes for different folks, the flip side is the AK is a capable system, so why not?
Say like, what about magazine retention? For some situations where a reload is critical saving time reloading, dumping the mag might be rational. But in the field, where are you going to put your rounds if you have dumped your magazines everywhere? A mag dump pouch on your belt will help you retain your mags, and save them for reloading.

It really just depends on what engagement you're in. There are times when you have a moment to breathe and stow away the empty mag and other times when you have to forget about it and get more rounds down range as fast as possible. Essentially, situation dictates. I'm sure he explains this in other videos, but there's really no point in repeating it in everything he puts out when he's trying to get a different concept across to the viewers.
It's not a critic towards the video. But to me it seems "trend-like" all over the tube there are almost no vids with this in mind. As far as I have been concerned over the years, there is no shortage of ammo, but rather a shortage of ie. magazines. I do understand your point, and at very short distances in CQB there may be very little time to do combat/speed reload retaining your magazine for future use. But then you should set up your kit with a pouch to put them in.

Prep Sho He doesn't have his finger on the trigger, he uses he trigger finger under the receiver to help support the rifle during the reload process.
Im not sure, to clouse to triger, like after 2:56. If standing in perfect condition maybe nothing happend but.. I will try to do it other way anyway.

Travis, what's your opinion on the bolt hold open followers with a notched safety to hold the bolt to the rear? Would this interfere with subconscious manipulation of the firearm when dealing with most other aks that don't have these features?
TS Odinson Those two items in conjunction with each other will not work. Kind of hard to explain, but If the notch in the safety is cut to lock the bolt back where the BH followers stop it, then when you drop the safety to send the bolt home, the bolt will not have enough force to reliably strip/feed a round. Trust me I've tried numerous combos and it will not work.
What are some of your AR-15 reload drills? I find i reload the Ak way faster than my AR. When under stress i tend to miss the AR magwell while the AK mag seems to naturally rock in. Once the front lip is in, it is nearly impossible to mess up.

If only the charging handle was on the left side.....
Then the charging handle could catch on gear, pouches, plate carrier, body etc. It reciprocates so if it catches on something it can eject a round half way and create a malfunction before you go to use it.
