- My biggest video project to date, I spent countless hours drawing all the pixel art and animating it frame by frame to create a GameBoy-style experience. I hope you like it!
The music is the latest single from my upcoming 8-bit album. It's now available on Bandcamp and most streaming platforms:
Bandcamp: glasys.bandcamp.com/track/new...
Spotify: open.spotify.com/album/6Ksv94...
Apple: / new-world-unlocked-single
You can also download all the music from my videos by supporting me on Patreon: / glasys
My main inspiration (for both the music and animation) was the GB games I grew up on: Zelda, Castlevania, Mario, Metroid (to name a few). This is my first serious attempt at pixel art and animation, I've learned a ton from the process and I hope to further improve those skills in the future.
Credits:
Gil Assayas (GLASYS) - All music, pixel art and animation (drawn from scratch using Photoshop and edited frame by frame in Final Cut), video concept, production.
John Thompson (Ballooga Media) - Real life camera footage (filming and editing, special fx).
Huge thanks to my Patreon supporters, I appreciate you all so much!
Thanks to John Thompson for the cool camera work which we shot at his studio and he edited.
A special thanks to my wife Natalie for her patience, support and feedback while I was focused on this project.
And thank YOU for watching! - Hudba
This is such an incredible video. I can't imagine how long this took! What a creative video for an 8 bit sounding song! I was captivated the entire time!
Thanks Ari! So glad you enjoyed the whole thing, I was trying to keep it engaging throughout 😀🙏
Dude WHAT!!? THIS IS SO COOL!
Thanks Andrew!! 😊🙏
Damn, this game looks sick! Can I try it too?
Haha thank you! If I turn it into a real game, you’ll be one of the first to try it ;)
@@GLASYSdo you know the GBstudio software?
Kinuyo Yamashita would be very impressed with this composition! Excellent evolution of Castlevania style theme!
Thanks dude! Definitely VERY inspired by Castlevania and Zelda
@@GLASYS those dungeonesque arps tho…. 🔥
There is so much here that's amazing. I love the clear passion for both old school games and the distinct sound that was reminiscent of midis from the time, the amazing visuals you created to go along with it. I would LOVE to play Glasys Quest: A New World
Love this comment, you’re so incredibly kind! Thank you 🙏😊
@@GLASYS Thank YOU for creating and filling the niche that you did. You ROCK!
Hahaha the faces he made when seeing the bosses. He even made a face in the game. I loveeee the attention to detail.
Thanks! Appreciate you noticing the details :)
I love the idea of a keyboard shmup.
This deserves a minimum million. Shoutout to the algorithm. I was just scrolling and saw this. Holy shit . 🔥🔥
Thanks for checking it out! I appreciate the kind words 🙏
I am absolutely blown away by this! Haven't had the time to really "watch" it but I've listened a handful of times and honesty, sincerely, from the bottom of my heart, this would be what music from my all time imaginary video game would sound like. Thank you for your hard work in this amazing endeavor and keep up the good work. Thanks for sharing your gifts to rest of us!
Thanks so much for your kind and thoughtful words! So glad you’re enjoying it 🙏😀
I absolutely adore 8-bit/16-bit/etc music, and this is a masterpiece.
Thank you, really glad you enjoyed it :)
My cold dead Millennial heart is filled with warmth once again.
I love all the references you make to specific games 😭 What a great piece of art!!!
Haha thanks Carly! Hopefully we can keep your heart nice and toasty 😂🙏
I love that when it said "Octave up" the music actually went up an octave
The layering is SO COOL 🕹✨
I'm speechless! Absolutely amazing man💜💜💜💜💜💜💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💜
My man 💜🙏
You never cease to amaze me! I had to go back and watch your "This app stole my video" vid to be sure you're really human and on the same plane of existence as us.
haha thanks Heintz! Unfortunately, still very human 😂🙏
This is awesome dude! I’m throwing this on while I work on my Metroidvania game 😁🍻🕹
Thanks! Good luck with your game, looking forward to seeing it!
THIS IS SO AMAZING GIL!!! Not just the composition but the art as well! Really really hits home in all the right ways, and I know you know just what I mean!
So glad you like it! Thanks for being awesome and supportive 💜🙏
The soundtrack so amazing …thank you for doing this
Thanks so much, really glad you're enjoying it! :)
Wow good job! I love to see more chiptune inspired tunes.
Oh. My. God. I’m so happy this popped up in my recommended. New sub!
Hey Jookie! Thanks so much, and welcome to the channel 😀🙏
This is beyond incredible. The amount of work and creativity that must've gone into this.. Wow.
Thanks for the kind words Yula!
This is perfection!
I love how you synced the visuals with the audio, the flapping of the wings left to right in my ear, how each minion had its own flying sound.
The best, a true masterpiece!
Thanks you Ermé! Really glad you enjoyed the details :)
That is Ultra Supercharged Awesome!
This is such a great and well crafted composition, it captures the retro feel so well i was feeling nostalgic all the way through omg
Thanks Donnie, you’re very kind! So glad you enjoyed it 🙏
@@GLASYS you deserve way more recognition man, I shared this video with all my friends and it's still not enough
@@DonnieTheGuy I really appreciate you doing that, thanks so much!
This is incredible work. Thank you for sharing this. Extremely creative and fun! Really some of the best content on CZcams.
Hey Paul! Thanks for the kind words and encouragement my friend! 🙏
Oh my god that is amazing! Literally mindblown right now
Thank you! So glad you like it
I've never been so focused on watching a whole video in a long time. Good job!
Really glad to hear that haha! Thanks so much
My man! This has to be one of the most creative videos I’ve seen in some time. The creativity and work you’ve put in this is astonishing! You just keep surprising us with your art and musicianship. John Thompson did an amazing job as well, video looking crisp! Great as always Gil, keep it up mate!
Thanks so much for the kind words! And thanks for acknowledging John as well, that dude is a mega talented videographer who always delivers 🙌🙏
I've discovered you with your MIDI art and I had no clue you were this good with composition, this one is very cool. I will listen to your album for sure !
Thanks Bastien, you’re very kind! I appreciate your support 😀🙏
Duuuude. The first part was interesting conceptually, and I loved how you played the Gameboy like a keyboard (even if it’s just to keep it steady for the animation). But the second part was like damn. The music theming of the powerups, the recognisable performing level-design tropes, and the fluidity of the animation was sooo good.
Thanks Kaitlyn, you’re very kind! I’m glad I ended up adding the platformer part, it wasn’t planned originally but I had all these ideas and I decided to go for it (even though it was more work than the first part). Glad you enjoyed it! 😀
Another level of 8 bit music
Wtf! Amazing music video concept, that was so fun to watch hahaha. Bravo!!
Thank you! So happy you enjoyed it 😀
The song is so good, but the video is just a staggering amount of effort with incredible results. I can’t help but wonder if making a real game would’ve taken less time than frame-by-frame animation!
Thanks Andy! You may be right, problem is I don’t know how to code, and also I don’t know if the whole “hand playing the keyboard” part would be possible in a real game. The platformer part, definitely. 😀
I like how much thought you actually put into making the game sort of plausible. Like i could see this being the trailer for an actual game with some liberties taken
Glasys: the Gameboy SynthMaster!
Amazing work!!! Next Level!
Thanks so much 🙌🙏
fascinating!!! It is incredible the amount of effort and desire that they put into this video, my respects
and not to mention the number of references to classic games.
Lovely this reminded me of my childhood in a very new and interesting way. 👍
Thanks! Playing GB was like 50% of my childhood 😂
Hey Gil, thank GOODness you got to the 16th note blaster stage & found your synth. No one should lose their synth!!! The passion, the time, the pay-off! Very created & well done man!
Thanks Jeff! Appreciate your kindness man 😀🙏
Wow bro this is AMAZING!! Great job, this is really cool
Thanks Ash Animation! Means a lot 🙏😀
@@GLASYS No problem!! You have a LOT of talent, my friend!!
What else can I say? Amazing video, amazing music… An amazing music video! This song gave me chills. It would have been absolutely mind blowing to listen to that on my gameboy in 1992. You don’t just rock, you mountain range… or something.😅
Hahaha “you mountain range”! Thanks Fiona, you already know how much I appreciate you 💜🙏
The video was brilliant and most impressive and your music brought everything to a level beyond! I am from your generation and you transported me back.
Thank you James, so glad you enjoyed it 🙏
Imagine if the Gameboy screen actually looked this good irl
I can't add anything beyond what others have commented...this is so impressive, Gil! Thanks for creating positive, uplifting, heartfelt music in so many ways. The 8-bit album is going to be great!
Thanks Gary! Always appreciate your kindness my friend! 🙏
Holy. Shit. Dude I love you stuff. You’ve gone far above and beyond for this one man. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks Richard! Appreciate the support! 😀🙏
I keep finding myself coming back to listen to this catchy tune
So glad to hear that, thanks 🙏
it feels like this is the way they created the music for vameboy games... super cool vid
Incredible work, Gil! Absolutely awesome! The music was awesome, so was the animation and execution as well!
Thanks Andreas! Really appreciate it! 🙏
Dude that was the coolest thing ever. Congrats, must've been a ton of work!
Thanks! It was a lot of work, but fun and totally worth it 😀🙏
Haha this is insane!
There’s so many great little touches in both the music and the visuals.
I can’t even imagine how long it would have taken to animate all of this but the world is glad you did!
Amazing work as always mate.
Thanks Crumb! It took a long time, but I enjoyed the process and learned a ton so it was all worth it :) 🙏
Bro I can listen this for 10 hours
Glad you like it, thanks!! :)
👏👏👏 FANTASTIC animation and music!!! 🎶🎶🎶
Thanks so much! 😊🙏
GLASYS. It’s hard to comprehend your talent and abilities in words as this video was beyond phenomenal
Thanks Javy! Hope you’re well! 🙏
The twist is that you are actually the ultimate boss.
this was so well done! love the Contra Call Back when you point the gun up towards the head.
Thanks Javier! Haha yeah, definitely a Contra moment 😄

Crazy sound and visual!
I am watching this for the 10th time and that’s definitely one of the best / most creative videos I have seen recently on youtube! (😅 the delay pedal was perfect! Now I want to buy a Minibrute 😂)
Thanks Thomas! Really appreciate you rewatching, that’s pretty rare in today’s world 😀🙏
So much work, and such a lovely result! Fun video, thank you for the wholesome gameboy jam!
Thank you! So glad you enjoyed it 😀
Holy shift dood this is one of the coolest things I've ever seen in my life. On a sidenote if this was real I know it be more pricey than LSDJ.
Thank you! 😄
I apologize, I skipped this video earlier not knowing it was yours. I’ve given it a proper watch and like now. Great work.
Boah! You can feel the love that flowed into it
Congratulations, you found another awesome masterpiece! ❤😘
Daaaaaang, my Microbrute never made anything that cool. This chiptune is super rad.
Thank you! The microbrute was only used for the video 😀
all your melodies feel unique and original to me, at the very least you certainly dont hear these progressions and arps everyday. I'm not familiar with animation but it was a nice show for the eyes, well done!
Thank you! That really means a lot 🙏
What a project! Good job 👏 I’m really impressed by the inspiration, this is so cool.
Thanks so much! Glad you like it 🙏
I was in awe the whole time, this is incredible
Thanks so much 💜
Absolutely amazing work. I don't even imagine the time spent working on this, I just loved watching this, that could have been a real commercial game back on time =)
Thanks so much, I appreciate your kindness 🙏💜
Oh wow dude this is such an amazingly unique video/project! I love how you synced the video with the gameplay and made it almost like a rhythm based shooter. Rad pixel art skills too dude, can't wait to snag your 8-bit album and take massive inspiration from it to continue my second 8-bit album!
Thanks for the kind words my friend! I'd love to check out your second album too, please send it to me when it's done!
@@GLASYS ahh man, wow, that means everything to me Glasys, I'd love it if you checked out my music 💜 All the best to you my friend!

Thanks Jacob! Welcome to the channel!
I'm not into this type of music or/and games or/and culture and still couldn't take my eyes off this masterpiece !!!!!!!!!
I appreciate you watching anyway! Thanks 😀🙏
@@GLASYS I follow you since 4-5k subs. Your dedication & attention to detail impresses and inspires me!
I had to catch up on some content again, it's wonderful to see something like this from you again. I'm very happy. The song is really awesome.. Much love from me.
Missed you Noël! Hope you’ve been well, thanks for dropping by again 🙏
@@GLASYS I just realized after reading the credits that you did all the pixel art yourself, that's honestly incredibly amazing! I've animated quite a lot of things by now and that must've really taken a long time (It does say so in the credits...) massive props from me! I'm twice as impressed now. (:
wow.. just wow.. thinking about how much time you put in to create this treasure for us! Thanks for an awe inspiring video!
Thanks Sean! 😊🙏
Best thing I’ve seen on CZcams all week!
That really means a lot, thanks so much! :)
I love everything about this video. Great work!

No way man this is absolutely incredible. One of my favorite music videos I have ever seen, and the song is so great. Cannot wait for the 8-bit album to drop, I still jam Defective Humanity to get me through long car rides.
Jaret thanks my dude! Super grateful for the years of support 🙌
This was extremely entertaining both to listen to and watch, nice work
Thank you, glad you like it 😀🙏
Amazing! Really really well done, both audio and video!
Thanks so much Holly! Appreciate it! 🙏
I really don't understand, as a guy who does marketing for a living, how creators like yourself are able to make these musical and video masterpieces that must take hundreds of hours of editing. I mean, I guess even one great video would go viral and maybe that's why I've always been so wrong about trying to put out quantity instead. I'm over here looking for tools to make simply animations or text to speech, you're over here doing absolute musical and video wizardry of the likes I've never seen.
It genuinely looks like you made a video game for the game boy.
I truly, and I mean this with every fiber of my being, hope your hard work makes you millions of dollars, pounds, euros, whatever. You absolutely deserve every bit of it. I can't imagine having your consistency and discipline.
Hey, thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful comment! Honestly, I rarely make any money from these videos but I’ve been lucky to have enough touring work and commissions over the years to be able to spend a lot of time on my ideas despite them not paying the rent.
In some ways I’m glad that I don’t make a living from my CZcams videos because then I’d constantly have to worry about getting enough views and pleasing people. This way, I have the freedom to do whatever I want.
Not that I’d complain if I made more ad revenue though😄
Thanks again, I appreciate it 🙏
Now I just want the whole album now
The music and art are mental 👊
Thanks my friend! Album coming later this year :)
@@GLASYS Please do a community post/announcement when you do. I'm sure we're all waiting for that to drop
@@thedoomnegotiator9693 definitely will! and I'll be releasing more singles / videos before then :)
