iRacing Presents - Dynamic Sky and Day/Night Transitions

- iRacing now generates dynamic skies that change with elapsed time and that alter the lighting to match the sky. Moving clouds, shadows, wind, temperature, and humidity will all effect the racing surface.
The most realistic dynamic sky system ever created in sim racing will be available December 2018.

Chaves Floraz My understanding is day/night in Project Cars or GT is just visual. This will dynamically affect the track temperature, along with the volumetric, dynamic clouds which will cast realistic shadows and also affect the track surface.

.... You saw that they even put in a calendar date system and apparently we can choose the time AND day of each race session, right?
Like, if it's a track in the US and it's a winter month I'm guessing that means we'd have longer nights and shorter days compared to if we set one up in the summer and that's.... that's insane.

Still cheaper per month than I spent on Starbucks or one night at taco bell for me and my roommate. And it provides a better overall service and simulation than the other titles you have brought up. So I'd argue that it'd be a ripoff if it was the same game as, say, Raceroom or pCars, but here we have a system that does day night cycles that fully interact with static object shadows casted on a track to affect track temps, that also sets it's sun rise and sun set based on the location of the track and the calendar date for every track.
..... That's insane beyond anything Raceroom offers, btw.

Thank you, iRacing for finally doing this! I've been waiting so patiently! Used to play the crap outta GTR and GTR2 which had this. Can't wait to see where many of the drivers stand in ranks after this integration. :)
It's truly amazing seeing what iRacing is able to bring out of this engine!! May even be cool enough to bring me on to do some more iRacing content :D
They're rewriting large portions of the renderer and physics while doing this. It's not the same engine. It's kind of like putting a V8 that doesn't fit in a Ford Focus, only iRacing is smart enough to go "You know... this won't fit in a ford focus as it is. Let's make some changes to the body, and to the engine housing, and to the fuel system, and the...."
And then eventually you just have a completely brand new car that isn't the same car that was brought into the shop. Only iRacing has the foresight to actually make it work compared to some other companies (eg: Bethesda. As much as I do enjoy Fallout 76, it certainly could use that iRacing polish)
Like.. it's not like they're pushing the envelope of their game engine. They're just rewriting the game engine to make it all work better and keep it optimized to at least function on low end pc's.
@@LithFox Why is it important for it to run on low-end PCs though? Simracing is incredibly expensive, iRacing is expensive, whoever wants to play it should also be able to buy a decent rig.
André Maccarini You want competitive games to be ran on as high fps as possible for a smooth experience with no input lag or random stutters. Getting in to simracing doesn't have to be incredibly expensive, $100 will get you a decent enough wheel and $5 to try out iRacing for 3 months. This ofcourse expecting you already have a decent PC. There is no reason for them to make graphics any more fancier than they are right now. The game needs to perform at atleast 120fps even if you don't have the latest GPU's. And they are doing a good job as the game could be easily ran with GPU's from 2010.
@@Stagnating_ This is true, I own a fairly decent pc(i5-3470, 8GB RAM and a GTX 960 4GB) and the only thing I really need and is indispensable is a good wheel and pedals which I am needing the most, I oftenly have to borrow one from a friend to play Assetto which is the only sim I play for now, I can't go for iRacing now because I don't have a proper *owned* setup to drive.

I wonder on dirt for heats racing you can set the times for each heat to simulate the space inbetween when different classes are racing.
In the forums someone asked. They said yes, you can even put quali and practice on different days to the race if you want. Or, you can run all the sessions back to back. Totally up to the person setting up the session.

In theory yes, but it's a matter of if they've enabled the lights yet or not. They still have to do that for a lot of tracks, afaik.

is the time accelerated or is it minute by minute and set based of the time of the session start
minute by minute, you can probably time accelerate it if you want like how rFactor used to have it back in the day, but this is ideal for 6, 12, or 24 hour endurance races, ads a bit of realism to the whole thing and iRacing actually has active driver swapping now....rFactor "had it" but it was buggy and broken and ISI never really finished it before release, the original rFactor was basically a stripped down version of the old F1 Challenge games. rFactor 2 is....somewhat better? it's not a good online sim tho, it's good for offline fucking around with AI tho. and when iRacing ads AI they will easily become the most popular game on the PC market...my prediction.
So basically they implemented what makes project cars 2 so good, progressively changing track conditions, its about damn time, I just want a Sim with rfactor 2's physics, project cars 2's track conditions, iracings track list and forza 7's car list but more organized with proper real life classes and series
