Playing Drums - Why always Metal?

  • Usually I present myself as a metal drummer. But after a horrific motocycle crash in June 2016 I am still busy re-learning some of my foot techniques with the right (injured) foot. It looks so easy in the video, but it isn't for me at the moment. I just cannot stop making music. So basically I was forced to reveal my second most loved music genre: Funk! Drummers love grooves and Funk lives from it. Enjoy!
    The song is "Give Me The Funk", written by Andre Forbes and distributed by Hot Music Factory. The drumless song is available for free here:

    You are retraining a foot. It can only get better knowing something you love to do. Keep it up, fantastic drumming.

    I know the pain and after effects of a motorcycle wreck...I have just never been able to get back to where I was before my wreck. Your playing is great Bro and that kit is killer. Maybe you will get the chance to use the new Mimic from pearl on that kit and give us an honest review before we spend $2k on it 👍

    • @FakeSmileRevolution
      @FakeSmileRevolution  Před 5 lety

      The Mimic is the Steven Slate Drum plugin sound-wise, nothing more nothing less. I personally like Superior Drummer 3 and the SDX expansions way more. But that's taste. The Mimic seems to be the first usable e-piece of Pearl. Everything Pearl came up with until today was garbage.

    I had similar problems with playing metal when my mcl was torn in half. Still bugs me during fastest parts. Awesome playing regardless man!

      Yea, I used to play 16th@240bpm flawlessly. Not anymore. I need a lot of training to get there again.

    Can you recomend a good workout to develop double pedal speed? precisely the ankle motion around 160 bpm and higher tempos...

    • @FakeSmileRevolution
      @FakeSmileRevolution  Před 7 lety

      FIrst off: 160bpm is way too slow for proper and smooth ankle motion in my opinion. I use ankle motion from 180-190bpm onwards. 160bpm is basic leg motion, no magic to it. There is only one real and effective workout: Playing! I am not a fan of practicing patterns. I put on either a click or my favourite bands and just play drums. Record yourself while practicing and check how good you really are (trust me, you think you are better while playing than you really are :) )
