A guy called me about looking for a deck for his Craftsman LT3000 rider. I did not have a spare, so after looking for one elsewhere he decided to buy a new mower and gave me the opportunity to buy this one for $100. All it needed was a deck and some brake work!
Thanks for the 📹Casey. It was great 👍
Using a water hose to clean can accelerate deck rust.
Very nice shape and will sale easy if fixed up
There are TWO (2) brake pads on those units. Just like cars.
Taking apart those deck mechanisms can be annoying. I took one apart to sand blast everything but several weeks went by between disassembly and reassembly, so I forgot where everything went. Even with photographs and video help, it was a bit frustrating to figure out where all the washers and such go. It requires some trial and error unless you know them very well. Dealing with decks, in general, is my least favorite part of working on riding mowers ... as ironic as it sounds! I have had a few of those brake caliper pins completely rust seize up to the point that I had to drive them out and wire wheel or sandblast everything. Its a pain but I have never found one that wouldn’t come back with some effort and maybe a set of new pucks. If someone were in the market for an older AYP tractor, I would suggest trying to find one with a 12 gauge deck. I live in a very humid, rainy, and swampy area but I rarely find a 12 gauge deck that hasn’t survived on these machines, while the thinner Poulan type decks that have not seen indoor storage and good care are typically heavily rusted, often to the point of being unsalvageable.
Yes they can be a little hard to remember where everything goes on it. The brakes are easy to get going which is nice. The 12 gauge decks are nice and I have one with a little rust but nothing like the thinner decks. I'm surprised this mower did not have one.
the cutting deck needs to be washing
Great mower! I just picked one of these up for $650 from a used small engine repair shop and it runs and cuts amazing!
Good deal! These are some solid mowers.
Great job on this beast! Thanks for sharing. 🙂
It looks like the deck rusted from the TOP DOWN. There may have been water dripping on it from the top.
Wet grass/leaves can do that too.
You got a deal there sir. That old deck was amazing it lasted as long as it did. Man oh man there is a lot of tree cutting going on eh!!!. Although you do more tractors than me you have a good store of spare parts that could cost you a lot of money. I have an entire 8X12 shed FULL of wonderful parts.
I know, the deck was ready to fall apart! I try to keep some parts around and it worked in my favor here. Building a parts shed myself out of the $100 shed!
That is what I think happened to the deck.
How do people even find lt3000 ive only ever seen lt1000s
This was the first 3000 I've ever had. Great mower.
@@EllisMowersandmore I love this and want one for myself wish me luck finding one
I just got one of these for free on the side of the road, only problem is it had no rear tires and I cant for the life of me find the appropriate size anywhere 🤣🤣
Should be 20x8-8 if I remember right. Should be able to buy the whole tire and wheel together at a place like Tractor Supply.
@@EllisMowersandmore thats what I was gonna guess lol, thanks for the reply!
One good lt3000 minus the deck rusted out
I have a lt3000 and having trouble finding a deck that is compatible. What type of mower deck did you use to swap over to the lt3000? Any help is appreciated!
Any LT1000, 2000, 3000 or 42" Craftsman deck made between around 2002 and 2006 will work as well as some more. They are easy to find, just make sure they are the cable engage type.
