This song is what country music is all about, real life. This is what is missing from main stream country nowadays.
I 100% agree. I lost my mom yesterday, February 16th 2020. She had cancer. It's funny because she would say how false and fake new country is. Seems like this raw and real song came along to help me grieve and cope. Missing her for sure comes in waves. Dang.

Now this is the Chris Young music I got into when Chris Young came out. Great song Chris Young.
It sounds so good acoustic, so simple and all about the meaning. The studio version feels a bit overproduced, it'd be better stripped down, to help focus on the lyrics.
That's exactly what I thought the first time I heard the radio version. Now I find myself looking for the acoustic raw versions. So much more emotion and feeling. Such a beautiful, resonating song.
There's a piano version now and it's pretty much perfect.

I just discovered this song yesterday. It had my tears on my way home from work. It’ll be going on ten years since my dad has passed away. I recently found the love of my life and I think of him never getting a chance to meet my dad. I know my dad would love him and they’d get along great. I also think of my dad never getting to walk me down the aisle or having a father daughter dance.

i pray for everyone going through hard times. I know how it feels to lose someone, I lost my dad to suicide less than a year ago & I am overly depressed, stressed, and this heart is tired. I miss him so much, too much.. he was my best friend.. I am writing this not for people to read it and say “ oh I’m so sorry for your loss “ I wrote it to let everyone know that god can pull you through anything, some days ( like tonight ) I feel like life is too hard, but pray & know that your loved ones are so close to you as your guardian angel.

i lost both of my grandparents 1 week from christmas in 2017 when they were hit by a drunk driver. They saved a church van full of children. Lost my paw in February of 2018 then my grandma went in August that same year.. damn I miss them. Some nights I just feel like I could cry and cry a million tears.. I start to drown in my tears and my grief just starts to over come. It’s a sucky feeling wanting a hug, and you can’t get it. My grandma had these hugs that made me feel like nothing could hurt me, and now she’s gone, and I’d kill to get that back. Hold on to your loved ones while you can. It blows once they are gone.

Real Country Music used to tell a story sang by artists that showed emotion with every lyric. Thank God we still have a few artists like Chris Young who get it. Garth is my favorite of all time, with his comeback, seems country music might be trending a better direction.

The hardest hitting part about this song is that he never mentions any particular group. A patriotic song about fallen soldiers, first responders, lost loved ones etc might be beautiful and sad but not everyone can relate to it. Here, Chris gave us a blank template to put our hurt, healing, hopes and wishes together with each other no matter who this song makes us think of. Thanks Chris, this is a good one

Reminds me of my baby 😭 my boyfriend, my best friend, my soul mate passed away in car accident in March of last year. Some nights I miss him more than others, the grief has definitely come in waves.... and tonight’s been a tsunami... Being so young and trying to understand such a tragic loss has been a rollercoaster ride... I still look at old photos, reread old text messages and listen to old voicemails... I’m constantly reminding myself how blessed I was to love such a wonderful human being, to have had him in my life even if it was so a short amount of time, he taught me so many wonderful lessons about life and love and about myself, lessons I’ll carry with me for the rest of my life... speaking to his mom shortly after his passing and she said “we must ask ourselves what would Eli want” and this is a question I ask myself often... he was so persistent about teaching me how to drive and was constantly encouraging me to go back to high school... I got my learners permit on his birthday, I went back to school and graduated a week ago... what’s next? I don’t know. But I know he’s sitting up there in heaven cheering me on and one day when it’s time, I’ll join him up there, but for now he’s my guardian angel ❤️❤️
