you've never seen Gunbuster!? it's literally 6 episodes, total runtime is an hour and a half. it's one of those shows that everybody should see atleast once.
The total runtime is roughly 3 hours
@@conoraq If they were talking about the compilation movie, it is actually 1 and a half hours, amazingly enough.

Personally speaking, I think Gunbuster is one of the greatest things ever produced for television, bar none. So yeah, guess I'd recommend it.
@Godon Gurando is another T-800 OK Well, yeah, I know. When I say television is to differentiate it from theatrical releases.
Man I'd love to see a Gunbuster in the RG line. Shame this thing isn't great out of the box.
Was thinking the same thing. After the EVAs, the Gunbuster seems like the next obvious step, since they already hold the licence (which I didn't know).
Seeing more non-Gundams in RG would be awesome, I agree! Imagine a RG Mazinger or an Ultraman, hell or even an RG amped Wargreymon
You should definitely give the series a try, it's one of Anno's first projects prior to Evangelion. You can even see some of the influence with the semi-organic internals and the large shoulder pylons of the Gunbuster. The time dilation concept depicted in the series reminds me of Interstellar too 😄
the little mech was basically their grunt suit RX-7 somethin, there was a scene in episode 4 where it landed on the Gunbuster's palm complete with landing lights on it's finger. The cloak is called Buster Shield and can be used for deflecting beam attacks similar to Crossbone Gundam's cloth. The Buster Collider's are basically enlarged handheld batons, used by the RX7 grunt suits.
When that kick pose appears at 21:03 , I just can't help myself shouting: SUPAAA! INAZUMA! KIIIIIIIIIIICK..!!!! 😆
Bandai used to do fixed-pose "alternative" parts for their kits to recreate iconic poses and the like. I remember their old HG 1/144 Endless Waltz kits came with an extra chest, extra hands, etc., molded specifically to better recreate poses from the OVA/movie or box art without the need for extravagant engineering that would still sometimes be frustratingly imperfect. I'd love to see a return to that sometime.

Supposedly the DX version of the RG Zeong it's gonna come with the RG rx78 plus extra parts to recreate the last shot pose
They’ve really captured the proportions of the Gunbuster so perfectly. I’ve had the Bandai figure on my list forever, but I’m dropping it in favor of this huge, beautiful kit.

One of my favorite mecha anime! I wish there were more model kits from it though.
One of the most frustrating and difficult builds I've ever had the displeasure of trying to force together. Ridiculously tight parts, virtually zero under-gated parts, awful stickers that crease and hang off, an instruction manual that's straight up wrong at points, my fuckin god. It sucks because Gunbuster is so damn cool, and this almost looks awesome when finished, aside from all the runner marks due to the lack of under-gating. Gunbuster NEEDS a Bandai RG release, such a legendary series deserves way better than this. All the difficulty and parts of a Master Grade with the quality of a 90's High Grade, fantastic. I'm so glad I've never seen an Aoshima model before or since this thing. And this is a DX RE-ISSUE and it's still this bad?! Are you kidding?
Aim for the Top!! Gunbuster is a truly legendary science fiction series. Why this series is so neglected is infuriating! You have to watch the original OVA, not the striped of heart movie version.

Sad so few Gainax fans even know of this OVA. If it is before Evangelion, they know nothing of them. Gainax also helped on mecha designs on "Char's Counterattack."
Supposedly they plan to do a 3rd series
About the only things you can't pull off are:
The Buster Beam(which is a sin)
The Homing Laser(which to be fair, won't look too good in model form probably without a diorama)
Buster Missile
I'm most likely putting it in the Gainax pose(really actually the Getter Robo G pose) and leaving it there.

The funny thing is the axes and the bat are not used in the OVA, only seen in the combination/tranformation secuence, and used like crazy in SRW games.
Yeah seems like the kit was inspired quite a bit from the SRW game as much as the anime
They were cut from the OVA ending for budget reasons, but were in original design (too much spent on rare grey paints is my theory).
Just ordered the B&W version; can't wait to build it. Oh and the little mech on the little runner @ 7:40 is the RX-7 (good guys) and I would love to find some larger scale models of them.

Ya know, its kind-of a shame this mech doesn't have its transformation feature like it did on the show.
It’s interesting. This kit comes with a lot, but also not a lot - if that makes sense? Quite a lot of accessories, but I think the problem is that in the anime it does SO MUCH. It would be very hard to have a model kit that does/has everything ya know?
This thing looks like a fun challenge to work on, good masking practice

I have the 2023 Super Inazuma Kick Ver. of this kit. While it has a redesigned waist and hip assembly, the kit is a disappointment compared to other Gunbuster kits. The overall kit feels flimsy and a lot of the joints easily fall off. The proportions are also off, from the oversized feet to the undersized backpack. The crossed arms design is easily the worst, as it results in the shoulder armor in an awkward position. Worse is that the kit has full runners of wasted parts just because Aoshima wants you to mix and match colors of the same parts. In addition, the box size leaves a lot of wasted space, and it results in ridiculously high shipping costs.
If you really need a Gunbuster plastic model kit, get the Kaiyodo ARTPLA Sculpture Works instead. It's not poseable, but it does the job of being an excellent display piece.

Did you drink before this? Also, if this was 1/144 scale, it would be about as talk as a salamis cruiser is long. Also, you should watch gunbuster. It's pretty much proto-eva.
I'm super pissed that I bought their original Gunbuster, then they release this new one a year later with all these accessories... Especially mad about regarding the crossed arm pieces...

I just don't understand this company. They have an orange runner. Just make another one so all the parts that are orange can be plastic. Stickers are lazy.
This was the best call for this situation, the panels have to be thin to make room for the internal frame to be both show accurate and structurally solid.
A second orange part layered in and peeking through would've bulked up the panel, if it was done with an inlaid part the bump that would accomodate it would ruin the internal detail.
Also from a painter's perspective, painting a stripe on a solid piece is way easier and practical than either solution.
Only way it could work would be multi color injection parts like in the rg eva kits, but judging by the micro runners for the tri-fin and eye aoshima just doesn't have the equipment to do that.

The head is so much pointier then the rest of the suit. I like the head, but not the body so much.
