    That is amazing. Looks so good. I've only got a small back garden here in the uk so no room for corn. But yours look incredible.

      Thank you!! We were really happy with the harvest and it was really sweet and juicy. We ate a lot fresh and cut the rest off the cob and froze it. We were able to put up 26 pint bags of corn. Pretty nice!! Thanks again!! -Lea

    Beautiful harvest.Thats my fave corn.I planted some too during lockdwn here at my apartments backyard.Good thing is the Landlord allowed me. since no classes as all schools are closed due to Covid19. I passed time planting some vegetables.My white corn are ready bt the rats are eating them together with my peanuts.Lots of okra and watermelon also..Love frm this Pacific Island girl bt studying in the Philippines.

      Thank you!! It is so cool that you are able to plant vegetables at your apartment!! I hate that the rats got into your corn. They have never bothered our corn, but they got into our bush butter beans one year. We would find little piles of shells under the plants with the beans missing, lol!! Our okra just started to make and we have blooms on the watermelon. Hopefully we will get some watermelon soon!! Thanks again!! -Lea

    We used to have Silver Queen Corn all around south Jersey. How I miss it.

  • @gulfcoastsouthernliving9108

    Thats what I planted ''silver queen'' and you have done very well with it. My lack of knowing this new place was a big factor in my failure. I planted the corn, green beans, crook necks, black beauties, and 4 different types of sunflowers in a 3 sisters garden. The problem was once the daily rain started and the TS came through, it just holds water. I lost everything except sunflowers and about 8 stalks of corn, all of which were at the high side of the plot. it was very discouraging but a good lesson learned. Just next to the 3 sisters plot, I had about 8 sweet bananas, 15 okra, and maybe 10 bush bean plants. Only the okra has survived and it only about 2 ft high. I know I need to fix this problem and will work on it this fall/winter.

      I hate that you lost so much!! We have never really planted using the three sisters method. We've talked about it but never done it. We have a couple of boggy areas in our garden as well. Our eggplant has drowned. Usually we have no trouble with this, but it has been an exceptionally wet and cool spring and summer. Good luck with figuring out how fix everything for next year!! Thanks!! -Lea

    Good morning Lea. That is a lot of corn. 🌽🌽You must have an industrial size freezer to put everything in. Well done. 👍👍 Stay safe over there. Best wishes Bob.

    What an excellent corn harvest! Do you have to battle raccoons 🦝 for the corn 🌽? They make it dreadfully hard to grow corn here!

      Thank you!! Luckily we have not had any trouble with raccoons. We have seen a couple in the neighborhood, but they have never gotten into the corn. My brother lives on the other side of town and he has a horrible time with them. They pull down the plants and eat the corn before it even has a chance to ripen! -Lea

    Nice corn harvest Lea and Al!!! Do you fine any difference in the taste of the white corn vs. the yellow corn? Just curious. Anyhow, nice job!!!

    • @backyardhomestead2230
      @backyardhomestead2230  Před 4 lety +2

      Thank you!! Sorry so late with a reply. I've been busy with getting ready to get back to school, and also with the class I've been taking. Life gets in the way!! We've never grown yellow corn, but the white sweet corn we grow is definitely sweeter and juicier than the yellow corn we have bought. I don't know if the difference is more between homegrown and store bought or yellow and white. Silver Queen is my absolute favorite sweet corn of all the white sweet corns we have grown. Thanks again!! -Lea

    I love silver queen corn. So sweet. Yall had a really nice harvest. Hopefully, the rest that was left will mature and you can get them. Yall must have a huge freezer haha. Are yall still raising the catfish this year? I don't recall seeing a video on it yet.

    • @backyardhomestead2230
      @backyardhomestead2230  Před 4 lety +1

      Silver Queen is my absolute favorite! The rest matured and we harvested it, but we were a little late. It had gotten pretty starchy. We still ate it, but it wasn't nearly as good as the first batch. We cut the first harvest off the cob to freeze so it didn't take up too much room. We do still have the pond. It is doing well. WE haven't harvested the catfish yet, hopefully pretty soon!! Thanks!! -Lea

      @EarlybirdFarmSC Před 4 lety

      Backyard Homestead That’s awesome you still raise the catfish. I keep saying I’m going to do that as well. My corn ends have turned brown but the cons are small. Was debating about leaving them a little longer or not.

      @@EarlybirdFarmSC I wish we had picked our second batch a little earlier. It wasn't horrible, but not nearly as sweet and juicy as the first picking.

      @@backyardhomestead2230 Yeah I might need to go pick mine then lol. I only had about 4 that were ready so I was trying to wait till more was and see if those would get bigger as well.

    Hey how's the pond doing? Did you do impatiens again this year? I got that idea from you! I implemented some elephant ears this year. They reaaaaaalllly filter the water and look very nice.

      @backyardhomestead2230  Před 4 lety

      The pond is still going strong. We can really hear the fish splashing around in the mornings when we feed them!! Harvest time soon!! We did plant impatiens again this year. I love the idea of the elephant ears!! I bet they really do a good job!! Do they require a lot of light? Thanks!! -Lea

      We're in the city on a neighborhood. We've seen a few raccoons around, but luckily they've never messed with the corn. I don't know how to help with that, sorry! Maybe get a live trap and try to relocate them?
